Worked the Taylor Swift/Kenny Chensey concert last night at the stadium. I now know what $2000 worth of popcorn looks like. Himself was so tired after 8 hours that he couldn't speak in complete sentences. He just sat in a chair in the kitchen and stared. There were two other bands, so that made for three intermissions. Screaming at football games is a different pitch than what 30,000 teenage girls can do. The stadium bathrooms were also designed for mostly guys. When we left, right before Kenny went on stage, the line to the ladies bathroom went out the door, and 3-4 wide for 100 feet. Glad I didn't need to go. We sold 800 burgers and close to 1000 hotdogs, 300 footlongs, 300 corn dogs, and 400 smokies. 30 sacks of fries, and 20+ lawn and leaf sized bags of popcorn. We went through 15 gallons of relish. I've had to force myself to eat today. After seeing all that food, if I never eat again. We had to strip at the door to keep the smell of hotdogs out of the house.

After what I did today, the smell of hotdogs might have been better. I agreed to hem some curtains for a friend who had moved into a new place, and her old curtains were too long. They weren't even blind hem, so easy, until I opened up the sack. They had cat urine all over them, and she hadn't washed them. Not that washing helped much. When I got done, I had to take another shower, and wash my hands about 3 times to get the smell off them. I even had to wash my ironing board cover, and sanitize my sewing machine. I guess she couldn't smell it anymore. I am officially taking the rest of the day off.

Hi Ladies,
Another day under my belt with being OP. Tomorrow if it's not too hot we plan on going out for a bike ride. I don't know though...suppose to be almost 86. Icky weather!!
Hope all is well with everyone.

Catherine, just thinking of those crowds of screaming girls would scare me away!

Just got back from a family visit, very active one actually. Running around with the kids, preparing food, and doing a project that needed to get done. It was a good visit I think, not without a few bumps though haha.

I dunno, it irks me when people think that I cannot take care of children. I may not have children right now, but that doesn't matter as I am quite capable of taking care of their needs and what not. So, tonight I'm feeding my nephews dinner as they wanted this mac and cheese and suddenly the "grandparents" who know EVERYTHING are hovering around me telling me what to do. "oh that is too much for them, oh no you need to add water it is too thick for them" So, the funny thing was the nephews and I had a discussion about how much they were gonna have, we did a "huddle" and made a group decision lol. They seem to only do that with me as I tend to ask them what they want and such (obviously within reason depending on the situation), like when we had a movie night one night and I had them discuss which movie to watch. They loved that and they both debated and agreed and were happy. lol

Anyhow, then they waited patiently while I dished it all out for them. I managed to give the older one what i thought a kid would eat and he ATE IT ALL and then part of an apple he wanted. The younger one got less, which sparked the "he got more than me" debate because his grandmother would NOT leave me alone. She tried to take the spoon away from me as I was serving this and the thing was, she was watching the baby so I just wanted to say "LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!" lol. I wouldn't say that obviously, respect for your elders, and just did what she wanted and had to promise the younger one he would get seconds, so he did get seconds and ate all of that and part of an apple lol. I just "GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" sometimes about it. I mean I'm not a MORON! Okay vent over...

I hope everyone is well *HUGS* :D I'm tired, going to bed...

^^ I am currently having the opposite problem - I don't have kids and have never taken care of kids (I'm the oldest of 3, but the middle is close to my age and I never lived with the youngest, plus my aunt & uncle never let anyone watch their two and that's it for my family) but tomorrow I am flying off to MD to watch my two year old nephew for a WEEK. Oh my lord a week. Seven days! My SIL is doing weeklong intensive grad courses and my BIL didn't have childcare and I am flexible, so put me in coach!

But yeah. I am really hoping that I get left with a long, exhaustive list of exactly what his routine is because it is NOT INNATE TO ME and I really don't want to like... break their baby or anything.

The funny part of all of this is that I can't wait to start a family - but I just am nervous hopping into a childcare situation like this especially since I haven't spent enough time with my nephew for him to know me - living 2k miles away really cramps my aunt-ing style.

I am equipped with three boxes of washable crayons, a Spider-man coloring book, and a Spider-man doll that rides around on some sort of weird ATV. I'm hoping that I can use the doll to distract him when my SIL leaves for her school.

Debbie - so glad you're back in the zone! You can do it - you've been such an inspiration to me. Get out there and ride that bike - 86 or not!

Catherine - wow is all I can say. You are really getting your exercise - hope you take some time for recovering before you plunge into the next round - although I am looking forward to frozen hot dog stories.

Anyone else have the bad habit of folding one leg up under them and sitting on it? Ladies - please don't! For the 3rd time in about 25 years I have a blood clot from this behavior. Yesterday I got only a mild lecture about it as compared to the ER doc on Sunday. It's not fun and can truly be very serious - I was fortunate this time it was not a major vessel as in the past.

My wonderful doc was much more animated about the 20 lbs I have released since I saw him in February. I was a bit whiny about it not being more and a lengthy discussion ensued about keeping it off and the slower you lose the more likely to keep it off - hadn't thought about that before. True or not - he was so proud.

New water aerobics instructor this morning - looking forward to a change in the routine.

Hugs to all,
Carol

Hello everyone! I am a newbie, and have enjoyed reading everyone's posts.
I am working today, first shift. YAWN! I was on 3rds, then they switched me to 2nds. Switching shifts makes it rough on knowing when to sleep, eat, exercise, etc. I am not a morning person, and working the weekends stinks, but I am grateful I have the job, for now. We are being laid off at the end of this month. (I work in the auto industry) and so I am just enjoying the overtime while it lasts. I am looking forward to the end of this job, probably more than I should. I have been wanting a change and I plan on going back to school and finishing my degree. I never thought this would happen, but I think I am becoming addicted to walking. I have to do it everyday or I go nuts haha...it's a great stress reliever. I am walking 2 miles a day, I take one day off a week, so when I get off work today I will be hitting the pavement.

Hiya my Peeps!

I had the MOST embarrassing moment of my life yesterday. TOM is visiting and decided to open the flood gates during my guitar lesson. I immediately stood up, but not fast enough. I left a large spot on guit teacher's white couch (that belongs to his roomies). I was mortified. He kept telling me not to worry about it. Ugh.. I hate hate TOM!!!

:o :o :o :o

Hugs,
Ratkity

Nooch - I hadn't looked after kids in a long time and little by little over the past few years, being around my nephews, really brought out my mothering instincts. We offered to babysit all three of the kids, the baby, the two nephews, while on a visit. Their parents jumped at the chance hahahaha, they wanted alone time lol, and it was such a breeze. A two year old can be a handful because they are in "what's that?" mode lol. The baby in this grouping is walking now, not talking just yet (pointing at things and saying DUG lol), and she LOVES to explore haha. She is so cute, she likes to "clean" like her mother does hahaha. When I babysat the nephews and the little one, she would pick up things like remotes and what not, put them back, then wait for me to cheer, then do it over again hahahaha. Doing dishes, she would trying to clean what she could at eye level lol. So cute.

I bet you'll do just fine! :D The only thing I think is hilarious, and annoying, is the parents let me be and would let me take care of the kids to help them out. The grandparents, unfortunately, micro-manage EVERYTHING to the point where you literally want to scream! Drives me nuts!\

Crazymary - WELCOME! :D :D :D :D

Ratkitten - OH GOD! That is like a woman's worst fear lol. I've had that happen before, on a light colored chair...SOOOOO EMBARRASSING! *HUGS* I remember when I was younger it was always a race, can I get to the bathroom before it is too late.

keeperofthehome4 07-11-2009 11:52 AM

Nothing going on here but packing. My sweet husband went to the grocery store for me. I'm happy to report I'm down 2.8lbs this week:carrot:

Jacquie668~ Oh that drives me nuts. My grandma does that with me still with my own children. I know what to feed them and how much but she doesn't think so.

crazymary ~ :welcome3: Sorry to hear about your job. That's great you love walking.

Ratkity~ Oh my yes that is every women's worst fear that something like that will happen.

CatherineM 07-11-2009 03:29 PM

Carol-I can truthfully say that I do not have a habit of sitting with one of my feet under me. That would result in horrific noises, dislocations, and cross words from my orthopedic surgeon right before the anesthetic took affect.

I was supposed to mow today, but it rained last night and is still too wet. I'm soooo disappointed. Yes, I have taken over doing the mowing again. Partly because I wanted to make up for the extra expense my new medicine is since it isn't on the insurance formulary, and partly because the regular guy broke his foot. We don't pay enough to even get an irresponsible teenager to do it, so I thought it might be good exercise for me again. I may even take over the snow shoveling again. I am starting to feel so much better that I think I am up to doing stuff that had fallen away. We had a long talk this morning about my trying to really focus on losing weight again, and got some stuff worked out. I just have to do it now.

Debbie54 07-11-2009 08:51 PM

nooch, how fun to be taking care of the kidlet!! They obviously trust you or they wouldn't of asked you to help out. Have fun and just remember, kids are pretty resilent. I dont think you'll "break" him. LOL

Carol, thanks and I'll keep hangin in there. Still haven't ridden the bikes and I think hubby is sorry we got them now cuz it sure doesn't seem like he wants to ride. So I'm thinking I might have to take off by myself here pretty soon. YIKES! I sit like that all the time with my leg tucked under me. I'll definitely stop doing that. Glad to hear yours isn't too serious although to me it sounds serious enough. Take care. Great news that the doc was so proud of you!!

hi CrazyMary, glad you found us! Great bunch of gals here. Sorry to hear your going to lose your job. Hopefully something will come up for you. That's great news about the walking. Have fun!

Ratkity, o no!!!! That's terrible about that hateful TOM. Why couldn't He have put the curse on the men!!!

Catherine, thats wonderful news that your feeling better and ready to take on the weight issues again!!

Still OP here and am down 10lbs as of today. I know..it's mostly water weight but it sure does feel good to see the weight going down no matter how it releases from me. Feeling so much better already too. I don't mean to sound gross or anything and it might be TMI but before I lost even this little bit of weight, it felt as if so much of it was falling between my legs and made it hard to walk.
Boy would I love to go and get this "apron" of fat off of me but I don't think hubby's insurance would cover it.

With that said...and hope I didn't freak anyone out, I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

CatherineM 07-12-2009 02:35 PM

Got a good walk in to and from church. Staying OP so far. I'm hoping to mow part of the lawn later today. Tomorrow it is off to the doctor again, and then I'm going to walk at Walmart. At least it is air conditioned.

gggirls 07-12-2009 06:22 PM

Rat - oh boy does that bring back memories. Did you just want to crawl under the couch.

Catherine - did you get the mowing done? Glad to hear about the walk. Is it hot for a few hours now there since you plan to escape to the air conditioned Walmart?

Debbie - fantastic week! How's it feel - 9 lbs - wooot wooot. Is that a record for you?

Scale was good to me this week but just takes me back to where I was a few weeks ago. I WILL get out of the 60s by the end of July. I plan to be 248.5 or less on September 26 - means I have to get out of the 60s before I can get out of the 50s. Was a fantastic exercise week - loved the new water instructor - she had me sweating and I'm actually sore today which never has happened to me before after a water workout.

Hugs,
Carol

CatherineM 07-12-2009 08:13 PM

Carol-yes it has finally become summer here. I have also apparently adjusted to the weather and my new med makes me susceptible to sun and heat. I didn't do the mowing because the primate I live with wouldn't let me. He is being a worrywart.

gggirls 07-12-2009 09:21 PM

Catherine - good for himself! I love mowing - want help?
