I have been lurking for a while, but decided to go ahead and take the plunge. you all seem like a great bunch of people and reading thru a lot of the posts has been inspirational. I have been over weight since i was 21 or so and im now 44.. so over half my life..i kept thinking i would do something about it before i hit 30, then before i hit 40.. and so on.....finally (duh) it dawned on me that putting it off means ill Always be overweight.. the time to do something is NOW.. i have lost a few lbs in the last 6 months or so mainly by cutting down on my soda intake etc.. but its time to buckle down and really work on this.
im going to try counting calories /exercise and see how that goes.. from what i have looked up online, i think 1600-1800 cals per day should be a good starting point.. if not, pls let me know..
i look forward to getting to know you all

:welcome2: to the 3fc site and to this board in particular. Like you I lurked for a while before I bucked up enough courage to jump on board. For me it was the best thing I ever did.

There is so much information, lots of different recipes and people so willing to give you advice. You may find that your calorie intake that you have suggested is a little on the low side for the beginning of your new healthy eating plan. You will find that you could go up to 2000 per day and in the initial period you will lose weight providing that you incorporate some form of exercise.

When the weeks go on you can lower the say the 2000 calories a little if you stop losing weight. This way starting at a high figure such as 2000 calories will give you many little drop in calories. Ideally you will be aiming to lose between 1 and 2 pounds per week. Initially you may lose more as you adjust to the new life style though it will settle down to the 1 to 2 pounds per week.

I hope this has helped. Look forward to getting to know you over the coming weeks and months. Good luck in your weight loss journey and reaching your goals along the way.
