Trying to jump back on.
Just to warn you, I'm going to ramble on here, I should probably blog this instead but I feel publicly posting it here means more. I've been a member for a wee while now, but haven't posted in about 6 months. Usually I'm down in the South Beach forums, but I fell off the wagon last winter. :(
So I'm at another one of those stages where I KNOW I'm out of control in eating and exercise. I can feel myself getting more and more sluggish and low, and I'm not even enjoying what I'm eating anymore. DH feels the same way (about himself that is). :shrug: I REALLY wanna start again, I just seem to be throwing lots of obstacles in my way: -money's tight so I had to quit the gym -dieting is so expensive -I'm too tired to get off of my duff and do anything -I'm worried I'll get bored with the food and eat something horrible I know I have to reign all of this in. My dad was diagnosed with diabetes over Christmas last year and my mom is recuperating from surgery this summer because of bad ankles from guess what? Being overweight and old injuries. I'm tired of being the office fat girl. :(lol, do you know I'm convinced they were out to get me in my old job?! They used to automatically put leftover cakes/cookies/ etc on my desk without even asking me?! I know I'm well over 300 again because my baggy jeans are once again my tight jeans. ugh. It's just getting the gumption to get going again. I just need a good kick in the butt. :kickbutt: And I need to commit to myself again. I did really well last fall, went to the gym and ate really well. I CAN do this. :) I just need to be organised and plan things properly. There is what, 5 months left in the year?! If I set a small goal of say 10 lbs a month, that's 50 lbs by New Years!!! Which is totally doable. I haven't been that weight in like 6 years. :eek: If you're reading this, thanks for that. |

Welcome Back! I'm sorry to hear you're having such a bad time right now. :hug: I totally know what you're saying about some aspects of dieting being expensive, but I've found that you really don't need to spend money to live a healthy lifestyle. There are lots of free or at least economical ways to get started "releasing" the extra pounds. I can only speak from my personal experience. Since I've committed to eating as healthy as possible, I have had some bad days and even a horrible week, but each morning I start over. Start by walking. All you need is a decent pair of shoes and 5 minutes to get started. Every other day add a few minutes and before you know it you'll be looking forward to the extra oomph of energy that exercise gives us. Last year I was finding myself getting out of breath just walking up one flight of stairs. I stopped taking the elevator and instead of looking for a parking place close to work (like near the back door) I park 1 - 2 blocks away. Now I have no problem with average daily physical activity. Cutting portion sizes doesn't cost a thing, in fact you start to save. The leftovers help stretch the budget even more and are great for taking to work for lunch the next day. Use free Internet software to monitor your daily nutrition levels. Many 3FC members use FitDay, I use The Daily Plate. TDP gives you totals for calories, carbs, fiber, sugar, protein, fat, sodium and more. You can even log your exercise and use the journal features. All for free it's a real eye opener as to the kind of junk I had been eating. Keep in the forefront of your mind that you need to eat nutritionally sound food daily. Visit 3FC. There are so many inspirational stories to get and keep you motivated. The people who post in the forums are quite nice and always there to keep us going. There is every kind of information and tons of experience from real people just like you and me. Read as much as you can. Educate yourself about nutrition, vitamins and minerals, learn about digestion and how the body works. It's a real motivator to learn how some food can really undermine your health. "You on a diet" by Dr. Oz was one of my motivating factors. Another is "Body Clutter" by Marla Cilley and Leanne Ely. I highly recommend both. Just start doing something. Give yourself a target date, like two weeks. You can do anything for two weeks. At the end of that time, evaluate how you've been doing. Add another new task to the first and do both for two more weeks. Before you now it, you're beginning to change. Look at just the 1st 10 pounds. Don't fixate on your end goal, just work on the 10 pounds and when you've achieved that goal, go on to the next. Make sure you take your measurements. Write them all down with your starting weight and date the paper. Put it away and look at it in 30 days. As long as you stay mostly on program (no one's perfect), you will see improvements. Miz M gave lots of good advice. The only thing I would add (just for emphasis) is not to pin your hopes on 'x by this date' kind of goals. They work for some people, but others (like myself) tend to find it disappointing if they aren't met in time. Celebrate each 10 pounds lost (without food!) and know that you are 10 pounds lighter no matter how long it takes.

Thanx a lot chix for your support. I know I have to be the one to make changes in my life style. I've decided to weigh myself at lunchtime and get off of the bus a few stops early. I'm bringin my walking shoes!

It is amazing seeing yourself in someone else's post and realizing what you would tell them and knowing that is exactly what you need to tell yourself.
Sure there may be things you can't do, but forget those things. Focus on the things you CAN do and push all the other negative stuff out of the way as much as you possibly can. It will only grows by the attention you feed into it. |

It's hard being the "fat" girl where ever you go. I think we've all been there. But the good thing the size you are doesn't have to define who you are. It's awesome that you are jumping back in. It takes courage to keep going even when you think you've failed.
I thought that switching my diet would be more expensive, but in reality it's cheaper! I don't waste money on junk food and many other things that have no real nutrition. I go to Sam's and get some of my veggies. It's so much better for me. I was eating a cup of raw broccoli and carrots today, and I actually ate all of my broc first. I was like what? I use to always have to have ranch with raw veggies and couldn't stand it plain or raw. I've only been eating this way for a little over a month but my body thanks me already. My portions are a lot less too so I'm actually saving money every week. Good luck to you, you can do it. |
