300+ Weekly Thread #1156

WELCOME

We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't.

We know the thread can move very quickly, and that people often make "personal" remarks and keep a number of conversations going. Please feel free to contribute even if you can't make personal comments all the time.

Finally, we also have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, Photos, Exercise, Info for Getting Started and more. Many of these threads are stickied at the top of the page. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for the Amazon "store" in the upper right hand corner of the screen on the PURPLE tool bar. A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!!

Morning Peeps - here's to the start of another great OP, water drinking, body moving week for everyone.

Battle - the pictures are great! Thanks for posting them. What a difference - you are blooming.

Bernice - it's such a shame you couldn't have a good time - LOL. The whole weekend sounds like fun!

I didn't set an exercise goal but have always thought there was no way I could do 1000 minutes - I think I will in April. Exercise is the biggest surprise to me - first of all that I am doing as much as I am and secondly that I truly enjoy it. We've had discussions over the past months about obsessiveness with our eating and I am trying to be careful about not obsessing with exercise.

Hugs to all,
Carol

Ratkitten 04-28-2008 08:03 AM

Good morning Peeps!!

Dmpls, I echo what battle said, you are glowing in your picts! Sounds like you had a fabbo bday as well :) It's cool you get presents all week! You can celebrate all week long.. hehe.

Battle, wow, your picts are incredible!!

I'm glad I checked the website before work!! I can't see picts at work and today's were great.

Annie, your goals are just wh00shing past!!! Keep up the great work!

Looks like rain today, so no bike ride.. bleh.

Time to shower and get to work.. hugs to all!

Luv,
Ratkity

Hi I've been busy in the garden so missed reading up at the week-end.
BERNICE, belated xxxxx:carrot:HAPPY BIRTHDAY:carrot:!!!!xxxxx :hug:You look radiant in the pics, why not have a laugh? We mums have enough worries without being po-faced on our birthdays! Good for you.xxxxxxxx
Carol, lucky you having such a non-eventful menopause!lol WTG on the friend's comments,:carrot: makes it worthwhile when people notice!xxxxxx
Debbie, well I'm still not seeing TOM, grrr. :mad:I went to the chemist & asked for advice-she said to try these vitamins with plant oestrogens (sp?)in, they won't hurt me if I'm not in the menopause & if I am they minimise the hot flushes & mood swings. Apparently in China/Japan they eat so many soya products (rich in plant hormones) they don't suffer from the menoause! I have to give it a couple of months but if they work I'll let you know!;) Your pics of the bulbs are gorgeous!xxxxxx
Annie good luck with the job.:hug:xxxxxxx
Battle, you look TEN YEARS YOUNGER in your new pics!!!!;)Be proud of all that hard work and the struggles with the 'evil' scales! I'm so pleased for you. What you said about the menopause, SEVERAL YEARS? I really don't think I can cope with that!! lol Any advice on not giving in to 'hormonal eating'? I've been emotionally all over the place this last week and though I tried to make wise choices, well... a few times I just went stupid & ate cr*p.xxxxxxx
Catherine, he won't be doing that again in a hurry,;) lol! Still at least he is sorry & trying to be good lol. Thanks for the offer but as I said in my pm I'd hate to take it away from someone who's in REAL need. I'm good at giving but not so good accepting help! Thanks again though.xxxx
Well my jeans are still tight:(, my weight is up, :(my tummy hurts, :(I have the runs.:(..sigh.... but at least the sun is shining:D lol It rained yesterday off & on, hailing and bucketing it down, it actually flooded our neighbour's house, our garage and lifted the drain cover, it came down so hard. Good job we live on a hill is all I can say! I pity those at the bottom of the hill!
I'm NOT:p altering my ticker, I have to just realise life doesn't stop coz hormones are off-kilter & get back OP & exercising. Anyone got tips for exercises which one can do during a (sorry TMI:o) heavy period? I'm so scared to move too much as it causes a 'flood' even though I'm on meds to slow it down. This is JUST IN CASE TOM shows up, laff!
xxxxxxsharon

dgramie 04-28-2008 09:52 AM

Sharon...I must be having my TOM plus your TOM. Its heavy enough for us both !!! I didnt even go to church yesterday for fear of flooding. (TMI>>SORRY)

I had a pretty good weekend. Scales are back down to my lowest today, even with TOM. Maybe by sat (weigh day) it will be even lower.

Huby seems calmer this morning. He slept most of the weekend away...which is a great thing!!
battle_ awesome pictures
carol_ great job on the exercise.I have to get in 100 more min to hit my goal. Today and wed are weights so that will be 60 min of it...just need to find a way to fit in 40 min tommorow.
Dmpls_ glad you had an awesome bday!! The pictures are awesome!! I love Joes!! We use to go to thunder on the ohio in Evansville IN. Hubby use to get passes to all the vendor booths and free food. they had air conditioned tents set up for us.It was awesome and a great perk for being a grocery store manager. Now he cant handle crowds at all.

Debbie_ all my little seeds hubby planted are now coming up...guess i will have to cover them tonight.

lauren_ yes she is staying in the boro for the summer. She is going to be living with her boyfriends parents. She is working plus taking a summer class.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week.
debi

I have two doctor's appointments today, and I do so love them. I'm sure there will be some blood work involvement as well. Maybe today I will finally find out if there is something really wrong with me, or if I just had a really bad infection that has now passed. I should be given approval to return to the pool today. It's been a month, and I'm crotchety everywhere. I need the pool.

DMPLS 04-28-2008 11:03 AM

Well I'm down 1 more pound! I am estatic!!!! since I thought for sure I would of gained with all the calories I ate over this weekend!!!! yesterday alone!!!! YICKS!!! so today my goal is to steer clear of fats....I know in general its not good to eat totally fat free....however I ate enough fat grams yesterday to LITERALLY last me all week!!! surprisingly enough my stomach isn't hurting....other than needing some extra fiber I think.....the fatty foods I ate yesterday didn't turn my stomach....I think because I did eat other healthy foods as well....

Instead of having my snacks throughout the day I ate a larger breakfast-snack combined....lowwwww in fat (1g) I combined 1/2 sweet potato, 1 1/2 cups green beans heated those and added 1 cup FF cottage cheese with 4 TBS Salsa..........it actually tasted GREAT all mixed together! (no that wasn't what I intended however once on the plate.....LOL)

I am pushing my water and really need to get back into the walking MODE!!!! grrrr I didn't walk all last week!!!

well gota run....yes I took today off to help DH with something.....see you all later

Good Morning Ladies,

I am all ready to go to my interview this morning. It is 8:30 here and my interview is at 9:30. I will leave my house at 9 to be sure to get there in plenty of time. Just wanted to hop on and tell you all to have a great op, water drinking day.

Battle: I saw your pics and you look amazing! I love the one where you are surrounded by plants. So, so pretty.

Carol: Isn't it amazing when we start to enjoy exercise. lol. I never used to set a goal then saw the thread to set goals for exercise now I do it every month. I have my own personal goal to try to beat my exercise minutes for last year. It is kind of fun and I am very competative with myself so it works for me. I love that you are enjoying your exercise time. I don't think I will reach my goal this month because I am about 526 minutes short of it and only 3 more days to complete it. You never know though but I will come close at least so that is good.

Rat: Sorry that rain is canceling your bike riding. Hope you have a good day regardless.

Sharon: Hi girl. Can't help you out with TOm exercises. I still do most of them after a day or so. I honestly do take a day off of exercises usually on my heaviest day of Tom. Other than that I keep it all up.

Debimitch: Glad your hubby is calmer today. Hoping and praying he will continue to respond well to the new med adjustment.

Catherine: Good luck at the Dr. and I hope you get to go swim soon.

Bernice: woo hooo to your -1 more. It is so nice to have a loss after an especialy not so great eating day. Hugs.

If I didn't mention you by name hugs to you.
Blessings all,
Annie

JuleeCeeS 04-28-2008 11:54 AM

Bernice: Happy Belated..your pictures are wonderful it looks like veryone had a genuinely good time!!

DH and I spent the day out of the house yesterday. It was pushing 100 again so we made our tour of places with A/C we didn't have to pay for. So we went to lunch first...in the end I paid for what I ate as there was too much cheese and well...you know. Then there were great DVD sales at Best Buy & Borders...so off we went. We are trying to complete some collections and replace all the VHS stuff...so we made a little headway. Then we went to the movies and saw the most INCREDIBLE film called "Young @ Heart."

It was a documentary made about the Young @ Heart chorus based in Massachusets. They are all 70+ with many of them in their 80's as well. They sing together and through the guidance of their director they do contemporary music...which when sung by people this age totally changes the songs. It was such a beautiful joy-filled movie and we loved it.

http://www.foxsearchlight.com/youngatheart/

It is supposed to get back into the 80's today which would be so nice. I am back to real work today and this week will work me silly. We also made nice yesterday and visited with DH's parents since we had time and were in the neighborhood. FIL's birthday is Tuesday and I will likely not make it to his birthday dinner...work again. Oh well.

Then we ended the night with dinner with friends and karaoke at the bar. There were a few people there last night who were just so shamelessly drunk and stupid...I don't understand it. Get drunk, have fun...but have a little class and some shame at the very least. I'll spare you the details.

Off and running...as fast as my FitFlops will take me...haha. No pain or soreness..but comfy.

JuliaDH 04-28-2008 12:12 PM

I am glad that everyone had a plesent weekend!

Rat : We bought my DD a trail a bike. Oh man it is awesome! Now I can get some real exercise and not worry about her keeping up. Gonna get DH to get some pics of us!

Annie - good luck on the interview. Will be praying for ya!

Battle - Love your new pics. Beauty and warmth are the words that some to mind.

Debi - Glad that DH is settling in better. Its been a week right? And I beleive you said that the change takes a week to be noticable. I am happy that your daughters did well with graduation last week. Awesome milestones.

Getting the house work do so that I can get some paper work filed. If the cat walks across my desk and sets off an avalanche...I might just go on strike!

Catch up with you all again later.

BattleAx 04-28-2008 01:00 PM

Hiya peeps,

Is it really Monday already? It's looking like a nice, warm day here.

Thank you all for the compliments on the pics. Sometimes it's hard to see that I look much different, just by looking in the mirror, but boy, seeing the progression in photos, there is a huge difference. I feel so much more alive now than I did at my highest.

Like many of you, I love the benefits of exercise. Sometimes I don't want to exercise, but the way I feel afterward and in general makes it all worth the effort. It's hard to build exercise in when life gets busy, but it's a commitment just like eating OP is.

Rat: Sorry rain is preventing a bike ride. Maybe tomorrow.

Sharon: I wish I could offer some advice about hormonal eating, but I know that I struggle mightily when my hormones are getting wacky. However, I have faith that you can get a grip on your eating and will work through some of the difficulties.

Debi: I'm happy that the scale is moving in the right direction. I hope the good beginning to your week sets the course for a good week overall.

Catherine: Good luck at the doctors today. I hope you can get back to the pool soon.

Bernice: Yay on the pound lost. Sometimes I eat larger meals and fewer snacks, sometimes I graze all day. I try and work with how I'm feeling each day.

Annie: Good luck on your interview today.

Julee: Sounds like you had a nice weekend. When it's really hot here, I also try to find activities in air-conditioned buildings. On occasion, I'll drive out to the suburbs with hotter weather (more places have air conditioning) and park myself at a Starbucks or the like for several hours.

Julia: Have a good time with your housework : )

Have a great day, everyone

Ratkitten 04-28-2008 02:11 PM

Hello again my Peeps,

The rain is letting up and looks like I might get in a ride tomorrow :)

Battle, yep, my thoughts exactly this morning "Dang.. Monday? Already?? I'm not ready for Monday!"

Catherine, reading your posts about Dr visits almost sounded like there was gonna be blood letting, but whose blood was the question! hehe.

Sharon and Deb, hang in there!! I hate TOM hormones.. he was a week early this month and then I've been off and on "emo". I watched a couple of movies yesterday and my mood swung side to side and upside down.. geesh. All hormones, of course.

Julia, good luck on tackling your avalanche!

Julee, sounds like you and DH had a wonderful day yesterday and did LOTS!

Annie, good luck on the job interview!!!!!

GGG, thanks for starting us today :) I'm a wee dehydrated from being in AC yesterday (Atlantic City). Just a little bit dehydrated and I get dizzy.. bleh. I'm trying to drink all my water today. What I really want is a N.A.P. hehe.

Luv,
Ratkity

Debbie54 04-28-2008 03:34 PM

Bernice, it looks like you had a really good time at your birthday party. I love the pic with you on the stick horse...too cute.

Annie, I love to lay in hammocks when it's windy out! Enjoy yours when you get it up. Annie, you have less than 100 lbs to go, did you ever think you would get there? You are doing so great and I'm so thrilled for you. Wow, look how far you've come!!!

Battleax, love the new pics!

Sharon, yep, let me know for sure. I hope they work for you.

Debi, so glad your hubby is doing better. Yay for the seeds poppin' up!

Catherine, hope you get to go back to the pool and hopefully whatever you had won't come back ever again.

Ratkity, is there a law saying you have to wear a helmet in your state? We don't have to hear but if we do alot of riding in the cities, I think we might get one, but for now we plan on riding just on the country roads. We plan on getting water holders and a small pump to take with us on rides. Anything else that you find comes in useful?

We had rain this morning but it's turned into a beautiful day and a bit windy. Still too wet to do anything and my treadmill is staring at me since I haven't been on it for days, so I might have to hop on it...either that or DDR. Since I'm in the BL challenge I have to do everything I can to lose some weight, and that's the main reason I wanted to join it, to get re-motivated..is that a word?
Hope all are doing well. Get that water in and stay OP
Debbie

RealCdn 04-28-2008 05:46 PM

Good afternoon all,

Our lovely warm weather is gone, replaced by mid-40s and plenty of rain last night. Although I do see the sun trying to shine outside. In theory this should let me catch up on indoor tasks such as dusting and vaccuming... we'll see how that goes.

Cyn - sometimes I just like to read the posts and zip off. Later I'll come back and actually respond to them. Of course sometimes I leave it so long that I have lots to respond to. Hey, at least you weigh less than you did the last time you were at the doctor. It's sad, but weight loss really requires lots of attention. It's funny, but weight gain doesn't. :)

Carol - the recipe for the white cauliflower chili is in the recipes section here in the 300+ forum. I looked on my computer for the salsa recipe last night, but didn't find it. It's likely on a back-up somewhere, but I know I've got a printed copy somewhere. I will look it out and add it. I'm kind of interested in a (rough) calorie count, but might not get one until I make it again. How nice that you got one on one training today. That's a real bonus. I was looking at your post today about exercise goals. I think when you find something you enjoy doing it becomes just a little bit easier. I'm under the impression that you are doing more than you think you are. It's nice to see it total up if nothing else. I'll wish you luck on April's goal.

TheWalrus - although I did a lot of recording/burning of some shows (tv in card on my computer) I too broke down and bought the full set of MacGyver. Sadly those days of buying something just because I wanted it are over (for a couple of years at least). I'm sure by that point I'll have a big long list of wants. :) I guess you missed the weigh-in, that's too bad. Let us motivate you if we can. In the end the motivation will come from within yourself. Really, it will.

Ratkitten - it sounds like biker chick is born. Have fun with your riding!

Debi - .5 is still a loss. Celebrate every week you're holding steady or down... even just a little.

Catherine - that's so funny about your husband. I wonder how long you're going to leave him wondering when he'll be forgiven. It's an art form I think. Just long enough, but not too long, right? I do hope your appointment go well today and you get approval to return to the pool. I bet hubby does too. :)

Debbie - I saw your pictures, they're beautiful. I actually put a few shots of my garden on my blog as someone there had asked about it. There are only a few parts of it worthy of pictures at the moment, but I did find a few nice shots. http://3fatchicks.com/diet-blogs/rea...pring-flowers/ (Hmmm... you and Debbie are blue... I'm on the black team... guess we're enemies now... nah!)

Bernice - the pictures of your dinner out are great. Sounds like you had a wonderful day.

Annie -
I know by now that your interview is over, but I do hope it went well.

Lauren - I find that keeping the blog helps a lot. It may be that not many people read it, but it really does seem to help me keep on track.

BattleAx - your progress pictures are inspiring. I've got to get over my own phobia of letting people take pictures. Although I've taken some pictures for myself, they're not ones I'd likely post publically (undies). I should break down and take a few even now... for later on. Thanks for sharing yours.

Sharon -
hormones are a real problem. I still find I'm most likely to have cravings during my TOM. I'm to the point where I don't so much give in to them, but sometimes I'll work something in if I really want it. Sorry, can't help on the exercises. However, it is only (hopefully) a few really heavy days. You can always make those your rest days and make up for it afterwards.

Julee - here I am complaining about the cold, and you complaining about the heat. That's pretty much how it goes with weather, isn't it. I'm glad you enjoyed your tour of places with A/C, although I think in the end you did pay for it. It doesn't matter though if you had a good time.

Julia - isn't that the cat's job, to interupt you and cause chaos. We have two that are very good at their jobs.

Well, I think that's me caught up (for now). I've now got a little time to kill before making dinner (Szechwan Beef). Take care everyone and hope you have a great week.

TheWalrus 04-28-2008 06:52 PM

Hi everyone:

I'm here! I did well yesterday with the pizza and beer -- thanks for asking -- even turned down the extra slices that my loving husband offered me. Then, of course, he made a snack of sweet potato fries and...I caved. Sigh. Today he stayed home, so not only did I not get most of my work done (I work my "regular" job Tuesday through Saturday and have a regular contract job that I work every day, as well as the freelance work that I do whenever I can -- needless to say, Anne, not buying everything we want is something with which I'm familiar! We couldn't do the fabulous things we do without the extra work, though, so it all turns out ok :)) (Oh, PS, if anyone's interested, I figured out that with the project from ****, which I totally underestimated, I was working 13.5 hours/day in addition to my two other jobs...yikes!) but we ended up ordering in twice -- agh! And it's been pouring rain, so no walking. Tomorrow is another day, though, with PT in the morning and a turkey wrap in the afternoon. Yay!

We ended up watching a couple episodes of MacGyver and one of the two (!) made-for-TV movies yesterday. Ha! It was hilarious -- kind of a mix of Indiana Jones, Stargate, and MacGyver. Loved it! (Though the TV shows were better :).)

I am definitely sad to have missed the weigh-in for the Biggest Loser challenge...rats! Next time, I'll know better. For now, I really have to focus on two things: getting consistent exercise (which means dragging my husband around with me) and watching what I eat (which is the really hard part for me). I have to fit in an airplane seat for a trans-Atlantic flight in one month and really want to lose as much as possible (in a safe way) so that it's as comfortable as possible. Wish me luck, chickies! Boy, did I break my leg at the wrong time!
