Olympic-size Swimming Pool Challenge!
Since I got a good response for the challenge I figured I would start a thread seperate. An Olympic-size pool usually holds 100,000 gallons of water which is 12,800,000 ounces!
here is some info about where our water goes! Approximate Daily Loss of Water (in Cups) Normal Temperatures Skin: 1.45 Cups Respitory: 1.45 Urine: 5.80 Sweat: .40 Feces: .40 Total 9.70 Hot Temperatures Skin: 1.45 Cups Repitory: 1.0 Urine:5.0 Sweat:6.0 Feces:.40 Total 13.70 Prolonged Exercise Skin:1.45 Cups Respitory:2.70 Urine:2.00 Sweat:21.00 Feces: .40 Total 27.50 This info came from this site http://www.thebody.com/content/treat/art32712.html so lets get started and see how long it will take us to fill a pool!!! :swim::swim::swim::swim::swim::swim::swim::swim: |
My water yesterday 40 oz
Group Goal 12,800,000 Group total = 40 oz 12,799,960 until we can jump in and swim! |
Cool info!!!
Luv, Rat |
Put me down for 98 ounces today.
that is an improvement for me group total=40+98 =138 ounces gonna take a while before we can swim...drink up everyone |
opps that was for yesterday...
still drinking for today lol |
Well, I feel like the oddball here, but I'll add mine for yesterday as well. Mine is an estimate as I don't measure the water at dinner (but I know roughly what I take). It's likely 6 or 8 ounces low, so it will do.
160oz yesterday Group total 138 + 160 = 298 Oh, I was going to add something. Perhaps just for fun we could add a few milestones along the way. So it doesn't feel like we'll never get there. Things like (just off the top of my head): - bathtub (I know these go about 100 gallons to the top so 12,800 ounces) - wading pool (6' - 42,880 / 7.5' - 67,840) - from http://www.siouxsteel.com/LvstkWadingPool.htm - hot tub (7x3 - 76,800 / 7x3.5 - 96,000 / 7x4 - 107,520) - from http://www.mainecedartubs.com/facts.htm - above-ground pool (for when we need it http://www.soncopools.com/pools_aboveground.htm) - in ground pool (worked out ours - 1,250,000 ounces) (or something like that) Oh - and one more fun fact - The Handbook of Chemistry and Physics specifies the weight of 1 US gallon of water in air at 68 degrees F to be 8.32487 pounds. (You see various numbers, I just picked this one at random.) |
cool that sounds awesome Anne thanks for the stats for the other mile stones!!! I love it!
|
I'm in for 134 oz. yesterday!
Group Total ~ 298 + 134 = 332 |
today's water 100
Hey Bernice - our pool takes 15,500 gallons - can we fill it too? 100 + 332 = 442 |

|
I've finished my last drink for the evening as well, so I'll add another 160oz.
Group total: 684 + 160 = 844 |

Group total: 844 + 50 = 894 |
This is a great idea! Over the summer, there was a woman who had us "Walk Around the World". We tallied our walking weekly, and we went very far.
I'll post my daily total tonight and add it to the pool, lol. |
another 134 for yesterday
Group total ~ 894 + 134 = 1028 |
