Halloween costume ideas?

Hi guys,

I need your help!! My DH and I are going to a costume party in a few weeks, and as many of you likely know, you can't just go buy a costume from a store. So, any creative ideas out there? I don't care if it's scary, funny, cute (although I am not a cutesy person).

Send on the ideas ladies....I am open for ideas. The only idea I have right now is Harry Carey...but since I don't live in Illinois anymore, not sure how many people will know who that is.

Lemme know,
Angie

Angie..

Last year hubby and i went as Kermit and Miss piggy. I made both our costumes.

For Kermit..i bought him a green sweat shirt and green pants. Bought a green headband..took a styrofom ball and cut it in half. Hot glued it to the headband and drew his eyes on it. When hubby wore the headband it looked just like Kermits eyes. Hubby also wore green face makeup! He also wore green socks and no shoes! It was awesome.

For me I wore a dress...bought a blonde wig..a pig nose..and a pink boa..and some big rings and necklace! I put on blue eyeshadow!

For the ears I bought a head band and cut ears out of pink felt and stapled them around the headband.

I am a crafty person BUT it was sooo simple! Honestly it was the cutest.

If you go to MSN they have a few Halloween links and one of them is for costumes, funny, couple, and many others. There's also a good site called buycostumes.com. Hope you find what you are lookin for :) Also, I don't know if it's just me but I have no clue who Harry Carey is

I always do a "Devil with a blue dress on".

I have a somewhat fancy blue dress, and then I add the horns and tail. I have elbow-length red velvet-y gloves and red nylons. Oh, and a blue boa.

Simple and cheap. :-)

My favorite big gal costume is Wagnerian opera singer, Plastic viking helmets are pretty cheap and easy to find, and cheap blonde wig (or even yellow yarn brades attached to the helmet). One year I wore a black knit skirt and tshirt, and bought some silver netting (to look like chain mail) and made sort of a half toga out of it (to resemble chain mail.). I had wanted to wear a longline bra instead and wear it over the dress and either spraypaint the bra or tuck silver lame over the bra (to make it look like fitted body armor), but the bra I ordered was the wrong size, so I substituted the silver netting.

I think it would be fun to try to re-create Mimi from Drew Carey.

Last year my DH and I went to a party as a widow and her husband. Here are some photos, hope they aren't too big:

(As you can see, he clearly died of natural causes.)

Any long, black dress would do, with a veil to put over your head. His was a jacket and shirt from the Salvation Army. I cut one of those big plastic knives in half, stuck the two halves in sponges and cut a hole so the tip stuck out his chest and the handle stuck out his back. That way it stayed when he was walking around. Would be just as easy to carry the knife though and just have him ragged.

Daughter is in the don't talk about me mood so I got rid of the post lol. Yes precocious is a good word for her at times.

Lilion, that's awesome! I love the "couple" costumes.

Shy Moment, that is the cutest story! Sounds like you have a precocious little kid, there!

Thanks all. This year I've been trying to talk him into being a fawn (like in Mr. Tumnus in the Chronicles of Narnia) and I was going to be a fairy. I have yet to get him to agree go out bare-chested in wooly tights though.

That is a word that could be used lol.

We went as Peter Pan and Wendy one year. HA I won a bet he had to wear tights. He has great popi legs. Very long and huge he looked great lol.

I went as the Pillsbury dough boy one year. I had on a white turtleneck sweater, long white gloves, white pants & white shoes and I had on a white wig and chef's hat that I drew the Pillsbury symbol on..I also wore white face. Everyone loved it, but one little boy pointed at me and yelled "look mom, it's Chef Boy-ar-dee"!! Everyone laughed..it was fun, and I didn't have to stuff my clothes...that was already built in!!
