Smokers- did you know.....

that cigarettes contain sugar? I had no clue!

I was reading an article about low carb veggies on this site: http://www.lowcarbluxury.com/beginners.html , where I found out about the sugars added to cigarettes. It says:

7. Do you smoke? Smokers have a much more difficult time losing weight while low-carbing. Some people will simply not respond to the diet unless smoking is stopped. Smoking uses up vitamin C and stimulates the adrenal gland. Also the tobacco industry actually adds sugar to the tobacco to enhance its "allure."

I'm surprised no one has responded to this. I never knew that!!!

I would be very interested in where they get this information. It seems extremely unlikely that smoking would inhibit a low carb diet, at least for the reason stated. You can not digest food through your airways, but only through your digestive tract. So if you're eating your cigarettes, maybe this would matter.

I tried to do a little digging on the internet and got bored well before I found anything useful. I couldn't find anything that tied smoking to stalled dieting (low carb or otherwise) except in the article you mentioned. Not saying they're statement is false, just that I couldn't find anything easily accessible to back it up. Being there are so many dieting "facts" being thrown around without any backup info, I'd reserve judgement.

Not that any reason isn't a good reason to give up smoking (though as a nonsmoker who is extremely allergic to cigarette smoke, I may be biased)
