fatnvt--welcome! I was born and raised in northern CT (right on the MA border), so I feel your pain on the NE weather. Congrats on coming here--it's a great first step and a FABULOUS place for advice and support.

As for exercising, why wait for the weather? I don't belong to a gym, nor do I wait for the weather to cooperate so I can wlak outside. Instead, I have a small library of workout DVDs. They're not all junping around and dancing and doing things that require lots of stamina/coordination (cause lord knows I don't have much in the way of coordination!). You cn find workouts at just about ANY activity level, from just starting out to super duper advanced I highly recommend the Walk Away the Pounds DVDs by Leslie Sansone. It's not a bunch of jumping round or complicated moves--it's really very easy, and there's everything from 20-minute workouts up to 90 minutes, I think. I have afew of her 30-minute workouts, and I LOVE them. I live in a very small apartment, so I don't have much room for exercise, so this is perfect because almost all of the moves are in place--walking in place, knee lifts, small front kicks, and stepping side to side. It's easy and very easy to tailor to your specific level of fitness. Even if you can't get to a Walmart or anything (I'm not sure where in VT you live, but I know some areas are very much out in the middle of nowhere), you can order them online, and probably pretty cheap if you get them used through sites like Amazon and Ebay.

Anyway, enough of my babbling...welcome!

Hi, all! I am currently out of my mountain element back home in Oregon and getting to spend the summer here in San Francisco/Alameda area while my husband works. I am hoping, that I will be back on track TODAY. I kept saying Monday, but I think it had better be today, since I weigh now on Monday's. LOL

But we were lucky enough to get a hotel on the marina with a walking path, I swore I'd be on it daily for an hour at a time... well, let's just say I've been on it twice in three weeks. I had horrible shin cramps and think I might need another pair of walking shoes.. there was a little doctor's advice in that direction right before my trip. I had Sketcher sport shoes, I have never had those before, but my toes went numb, my regular doctor sends me to a neurologist and he does painful nerve tests on my legs and finds it is those shoes. Yes, I still have them

I was on a trip to The Fisherman's Wharf and the guys my husband works with and their girlfriends, who were all thin, were walking with us up the street, and I had only mentioned that one of the guys who left our party had wanted to see the Ghirardelli chocolate factory. So, before you know it, we are all walking down there, it was fun, until we go to the end and everyone turned and looked at me and said, here is YOUR chocolate factory.

I wasn't sure what they meant, but they had all thought I meant I wanted to tour the chocolate factory and I heard one of them say, it figures, I didn't know who,(so happy DH didn't hear them, he was way behind, I would've been embarrassed then) because I would've confronted them, but I said, I don't eat chocolate, which is true for the most part. I might have a Dove chocolate like once every few months. Sweets are not my demon steak and baked potatoes baby, all the way LOL

But I just knew they all thought the fat one wants to see the chocolate factory, which the guy who wanted to go is heavy, but nobody seemed to care about that. Right after that, we all split apart. I am sure they were all saying I was the one wanting to go down there and just let me say this, if I had wanted to, I certainly would've and not needed that kind of stereotyping.

It is then that I am reminded you are in constant judgement when you are heavy. I will be on that path tomorrow right after I buy some new shoes. I have never had that kind of shin cramp before, the kind that runs down your bone area. I had to stop on the walk about 10 minutes into it and I wasn't even warmed up yet

That's just one post of many, I see coming. LOL because I have to get some kind of support going and everyone here seems so nice and understanding. I read a lot of the posts, but never jump in, but I think that if I do more it might help me feel more connected in getting the support I think I am gong to need to do this.

Have a great Sunday!

Ammi-They may be old enough to stay by themselves, just make sure they don’t advertise you guys being gone on MySpace. I guess you’ve read about that couple that come home from a caravan holiday to a trashed house. She said they even dug her wedding dress out and urinated on it. Their daughter is in hiding. If she was my daughter, I’d say she’d better stay that way for awhile till I calmed down.

Meta-I am trying really hard to adjust to the lingo. The funniest is washroom. I visited for a month before I came back to marry him, so was here long enough to start saying washroom instead of bathroom. On the bus home, we stopped in Memphis, I asked one of the security guards where the washroom was, and he pointed me to a door, which when I opened it, turned out to be the janitor’s closet. It was actually cleaner than the real bathroom. I still get the occasional, “Wow, where are you from?” In the middle of choir practice, everyone will stop, and the pianist will start laughing, and I look around, and then say, “what did I say that was so funny, this time?” It is usually a colorful colloquialism. I’m such a bad speller, that I can barely spell American English let alone the Queen’s English.

Goingthin- Welcome, I have a lot of trouble with my feet too. I have found the best walking shoes to be ones designed for volleyball or cheerleading. They are designed for heavy pounding. The best ones I ever had were some Asics volleyball shoes with this gel design. I wore them until they leaked rain. Most walking shoes are designed for 150 pound people. Volleyball and Cheerleading shoes are designed for 150 pound people landing hard with the force of 2-3 times their weight. That puts it in our ballpark.

Lilion - Annie is fine, she's been busy because she's had family visiting. The last visitor is leaving tomorrow so I am sure she'll be posting again soon with all her news.

Sue - I don't care what you say, you are still inspiring. It's not surprising you haven't felt like exercising seeing as you have been in so much pain. Yes you could have done other things like arm exercises, but you definitely deserved some time out from exercising. It doesn't stop you being so inspiring for not giving in to that plateau. So dear lady take your praise and enjoy it

fatnvt - hi and Glad to have you here. You have found the best place for all the friendship and support you could ever need. I love this place. You have taken the first step towards a new healthier life for yourself, the first one is always one of the hardest. As for the exercising, just for starters you could just walk inside your house, do you have an upstairs, if so go up and down the stairs. You certainly don't need a gym to keep you active especially in the early days of a diet. Also yes indeed I would definitely say that painting walls is exercising!

Nancy - I am not up to speed with all this Ipod stuff but it sure does sound like you have a big job on with yours! I hope you get it all sorted out soon.

That's nice that you and your ex can go out for a meal still. He does realise that you are just friends now and it won't change doesn't he? He's not holding on to any false hope still is he?

Goingthin - welcome to our lovely online family, happy to have you here.

Catherine - no I never heard about that MySpace thing. What exactly happened? Who was it that urinated on that poor woman's wedding dress? How dreadful! Thanks for the warning, I'll definitely warn the kids.

Lost is about to start, got to go pay it some serious attention lol. It's sooo confusing sometimes. Take care all and bye for now,

Hugs,

Ammi

to fatnvt and foing thin. I'm sure you'll love it here. All of us do. It's a great place for support and friendships.

Today is a good day exercise and food wise. I cheated and got on the scale again and was down 1.2 pounds.
Patti, I understand the desire to get on the scale all the time.
We're having roasted potatoes, roast chicken and salad or bussel sprouts for dinner. I'm so hungry for chicken and potatoes. I'll steam the brussel sprouts. I already had salad for lunch, so I think I'll have the brussel sprouts.
I hope all of you have a good day. I have to make an early night of it tonight as I have to leave at 7am to see the specialist in the morning. I'm quite nervous about it actually. And I told Andy this afternoon, I don't know why I'm so nervous, the worst they could say is I MUST have surgery and I already expect that. I get home sick very easily. And if they say surgery, the surgery is in Indianapolis. Over an hour from home. Maybe that's why I'm so tense about it.
Anyway, I gotta go girls. I'll check in later if I can.
And Catherine, thanks for telling me about your other nephew. I apprecaite it.

to all.

Sandy - on the great weight loss, you are on a roll now I hope you have a good night's sleep tonight so that you are nice and fresh for your appt tomorrow. Try not to be too nervous, I know the idea of surgery is horrible, but you'll be so much better afterwards, so try to stay positive Of course I will keep my that you will find out you DON'T need surgery! Take care and

Hugs,

Ammi-A couple in Woodstone Village in Durham County in Northern England went on a caravan holiday leaving their 17 year old daughter at home. She put it on her MySpace that she was going to have a “skins” party and expected only 30 or 40 of her friends. Instead over 200 came from all over the country, and totally trashed the house. The parents came home to plastic buckets full of vomit, urinated on clothing, cigarette burns everywhere, and even the light fixtures were pulled from the ceiling. They figure it is at least 20,000 pounds damage, and they will have to stay in a hotel for at least a month while a professional cleaner comes in. She said with as many burn holes as there was in furniture and mattresses, it is amazing they didn’t burn the house down.

Smile Just found this thread

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and just found this thread so I think this might be where I post most since this is the category I fall into! I posted my intro on the introduction thread (of all places, go figure! ) so if anyone wants to read briefly about what brought me here, you can find it there.

I'm already facing challenges on this my first week - I'm going away for a few days at the end of the week which means a lot of eating out! I know what choices to make for the most part...plus I'll be walking quite a bit which will help...and I'll have my water with me at all times! So hopefully it will all balance out.

I'm excited to start "meeting" people and moving toward a healthier place together!

33tekfan -- Welcome!
I'm going to guess you are a big Jason Varitek fan (that's the Red Sox for the rest of you)! I'm a displaced New Englander and a HUGE Sox fan myself!

Anyway, welcome! This really is a great place for support and all that!

hi guys
Welcome to 33tek. You have found the right place to be

Annie~ Its SO nice to see you!! Happy to hear that you have just been busy and not ill (other than your flubug).

I got into some chocolate tonight. My sis had a bag hidden in my basement that I totally stumbled across. Its gone but I didnt throw it out like I should have. I ate it. I did the math. About 400 calories worth. I hate the power that chocolate has over me.

Time to move on. Its bedtime so I will go and wallow there *L* I have been watching bellydancing clips online since I got home. Had a really enjoyable class this evening. Each week it gets harder though. Going to have to practice more

Talking

I have read a few posts in this forum and it is so nice to see everyone being so supportive. There are very few people in my community that can identify with the issues of a person as large as I am. I know my friends and family do their best, but nothing is like having people that understand the very specific and sometimes humiliating issues of people who are this large. I am glad you are all so willing to share your experiences so openly and the understanding that comes from having been just where I am. Thank you for taking the time to read and post what so many others just want to ignore/look past and forget. I cannot wait to get to know you all better.
