I totally agree that it depends entirely on the person.

When I was at my highest (320s), I wore a 26. 25ishlbs down from that, I was still only a 22/24. Now, 45lbs down from THAT, I find even 18s are getting loose on the bottom, but my arms still demand a size 20 on the top.

I didn't read all the comments, but when I was at my highest weight I was a little (ok, a lot) in denial and was still shoving myself into a smaller size that I should have. I'm 5'3 and at my high weight I was wearing a 24. Because I probably should have been in at least a 26, it obviously took me quite a bit longer to get out of that size. Now, at 230 (234, in an effort of full disclosure. Boy how this number hates me!) I am comfortably in a W18.

I'm down about 22 pounds and I have noticed my size 24 work pants and my size 26 jeans are requiring a belt. Even at 380, I was able to wear my jeans from about 6 years ago(26). I have a smaller bottom half in comparison to the rest of my body, so I'm guessing ill stay in the same size range for awhile...luckily I have clothes in a multitude of sizes.

It's so dependent on how the clothes are made, your height, how your weight is distributed, etc. I'm 5 feet tall, and at 331 pounds I wore a 32/34. Lost 15 pounds and was down to a 28. Lost another 15 and am still at a 28, but clothes are looser than they were.

When I was a teenager, I was 125 pounds and wore a size 8. My mom at 5 foot 6 inches was 190 pounds and also wore a size 8. We shared clothes all the time.

In short, sizes are weird!

this is super old, but since it came up in a search just now I figured I'd comment.
the thinnest I'd remembered being was in 2009 at 184 I was a 12-14. at my heaviest I was 273 and a size 20, honestly maybe bigger since all I wore was leggings. that was June 2016, when I started Topamax to lose weight.
I ended up leaving my abuser, becoming homeless, losing my food stamps and medical assistance (and thus medications), getting some mystery illness and losing way more weight than I anticipated much more quickly than I thought. I'm currently 197 and somehow a size 10. I still carry most of my weight in my belly so that may be how.
I definitely dropped sizes faster as I got smaller.

After my 2 pregnancies, I gained weight. Now, I am contemplating on undergoing any weight loss surgery. It would be a special gift for me.
