I Have To Stop Drinking!!!

I have started drinking over the last 6 months. I drink alot! Everyday! I never thought that that was a big reason for my recent weight gain. I just checked the calories in what I drink:o I am shocked. I go from using food to cope to using alcohol. I am so upset right now   How did I get this bad! There are 85 calorie in 1 oz. 16 oz in a pint. 1360 calories in a pint!!! I drink one of those a day!! Yesterday I drank 2!!!! I am so ASHAMED OF MYSELF!!!!

I am embaressed to even be writing this

But I gotta get it off my chest

Miss Lady, I understand how hard it can be. I love to drink. My fav is Long Island Iced Tea. BUT, if I channel my emotional issues toward cleaning, it helps a lot. I get my body moving, a clean house and I can sort out emotios while I clean. I know this doesn't work for everyone, but it works for all us girls in my family. I was 14 when my little brother died. The first thing I did after the shock when my parents told me, was go clean my room. Closet and all.
Journalling is a great help to me too. Or confiding in a special friend. I have a special friend I pm or email to regularly. Mostly pm this week though. I love her very much and she's an amazing person.
I hope this helps you. Thanks for sharing something so personal. We're all in this together.

No need to be ashamed, Miss Lady. You didn't know how many calories in a pint -- now you do. So now you can take control. The bar's the place to hang out around here, so I try to drink club soda.

It sounds like you feel you have a problem with the calories in the pint, not with alcohol per se. If you really want something alcoholic, a gin and club soda (you have to insist on the soda, not tonic, since tonic's full of sugar) comes in at something like 100 calories. Sip it, and it'll last you as long as your pint.

But overall, I think no alcohol is a pretty good rule for weight loss. Empty calories, whether it's 1300 or 100.

Instead of being ashamed, work on changing this habit, and then you can feel proud of what you achieve. Hang in there!

Hi, after all the booze over Christmas I've found it hard to stop!:o I love a glass of wine, which leads to a BOTTLE of wine,:dizzy: so I've decided to just have 1 bottle over the week-end, or as Vortex suggested gin or other spirits & low cal mixers (tonic, lemonade, coke whatever). Though NOT A WHOLE BOTTLE of spirits, lol. ;) The thing is CONTROL, whether it's food or alcohol, we need to look at WHY and try to find something healthy to replace it. BUT of course a couple of drinks over the week-end or at parties/social occasions won't kill you or your diet! Good luck. xxxxxx

Miss Lady - Alcohol is tough for me too as it is something I really enjoy. Unfortunately, not only does it have a lot of calories, it releases inhibitions, which can cause you to over eat. Like anything else you need to figure out how it fits into your own weight loss plan. Some things have more calories than others and if you can do things in moderation then you can probably fit it in occasionally. Please let us know how it goes.

THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT

I am only going to drink occasionally :)
