Hello from Ohio

Hi Everyone!!

I am new here. I am 33 years old. I am hoping to find some motivation and help from some new friends. I have 80 pounds to lose. I am going to college to be a Registered Nurse and working part-time. I am always studing or working. Whenever I have free time, it seems like all I want to do is veg on the couch. I have lost/gained/lost/gained weight all my life. I am hoping this will help end the yo-yo dieting. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!

 to all,
Lori

Lori, I understand exactly what you are going through. I am graduating on the 20th from a private college in the Toledo, OH area. This past year I have taken 45 credit hours, and basicly my free time was for sleep!

I found that I did better weight wise and grade wise if I was able to exersize. Does your school have a gym that is available to you? Or maybe walk around your block (or mall) a few times. Also I find that if I need sweets I try to buy the Weight Watchers, I am not on that program, but they have less calories, and are tasty. Just a thought.

Hello from NW Ohio - anyone ben to Curves?

Hi - another Ohioan here. Northwest Ohio area. Anyone else from up here?
Here's a little of my story:
I just heard about the 3 free workouts at Curves. I had thought about joining our local "For Ladies Only" Fitness Center when they had a 20.00 per month special but then I found out that I had to sign a 2 year contract. I just can't committ for that long because of money restrictions. Even a year is taking a big chance..Curves is 29.00 for one year. Any advice from anyone that found a glitch or any fine print that I could miss? I sure could use some advice before I make this decision.
I really need to lose at least 20 pounds to start with. I'm sick of knocking the air out of myself whenever I bend down. We went to the Labor Day Parade and I bent over to pick up some beads they had thrown, and I almost fell over because I couldn't get down far enough to get them. I waited a few seconds and tried again, but boy was I embarrassed! I have a stationary bike right here behind me, but I only end up getting on it about 3 times a week for, maybe 5 minutes.
What really holds me back is that I smoke. I'm not ready to give it up yet. If I could keep myself busy exercising and do that before lighting up, I will surely cut down. When ever I tried to quit smoking before, I ate like a starving person. That's me and I know me. I'm not negative, just realistic.
Anyway - any advice about the fitness centers would be greatly appreciated and nice meeting everyone.
Good luck to you all!
Robin

Hello to all the new posters!!!

Lori, I am a Registered Nurse, graduated from nursing school 11 years ago, but I still remember it well, I enjoyed it a lot, but it was definately busy. I lost weight while in nursing school, but mostly from stress that was going on in my personal life and I did not do it in a healthy way. I have yo-yo'd my whole life as well, was put on my first diet when I was the ripe old age of 2. ;) Hang in there, you can do it!!

Welcome to Angie and Christina too!! Like Lauren said, most of the posts in this forum are done in the weekly thread up top, it's a pretty busy thread most of the time!!

Robin, I've never joined Curves. I had a membership to a gym that I had signed a two year contract to, several years ago, and used it for about 8 months and then wasted 14 months worth of payments since I had signed the contract. I know that the YMCA has a lot of workout equipment without signing a long contract, and you can get money off your membership if you volunteer in their childcare center, but I've only heard about it from friends, it's not something I've ever done. As for the smoking, my Mom stopped smoking several months ago and I honestly never thought I'd see her stop!! She's done wonderfully, but she attended a smoking cessation program and used wellbutrin to help with the cravings. It is definately something that someone has to be ready to do, just like weight loss, I've never been a smoker but I've seen how hard it is for people to quit.

Anyway, hope to see you all up at the weekly thread!! Just right in!!!

Thank you Melody for your kind reply.
I think you're right...I really don't think I'll go workout at Curves without a buddy. At least that way we could take turns driving ( and sharing the gas $)and make a visit out of it.
I had a membership to Century 21 years ago, and I paid on it for 5 years and only went a few times - it stunk SO BAD in there!! I was hoping this time would be different, but I know it won't be. I was just feeling ambitious that day I wrote...
I talked to my cousin today and she is the one who told me about the $20.00 special, but I did misunderstand. it was $29.00..$20 I could do, $30 is probably too much. Heck, I had to give up paying my life insurance and it was only 27.00! WHICH IS WORSE?? Hmmm. ANyway, she wants me to go to Curves with her, but gees-o-petes, she lives way across town - we only see each other about 4 times a year as it is.
I give up. I am just going to have to think of a challenge for myself to make me get on that damn stationary bike that's in front of the TV.
Now the smoking is another problem, I get out of breath and all hot so fast. My heart feels like it's beathing out of my chest.
I wish there was a sit-up invented that would not hurt my back. That's my WORST PLACE ON MY BODY...the "apron", and the 3 "spare tires".

I have eaten 28 pieces of licorice today. I warmed up a Lean Cuisine (love em) but just remembered it was in the microwave a half-hour ago. I am totally screwing up my metabolism. Then my cousin tells me today that menopause really screws it up and that since she quit smoking she's gone from a size 10 to a 16.
YOW!!
I NEED A PERSONAL TRAINER - WTITH A WHIP!!
Also I read that Beyonce lost 20 pounds in 5 weeks with a two-week Detoxing diet, then 3 weeks of just fish and veggies. She said she went to bed hungry every night and was really grouchy. I am going to look that up. I would suffer like that for even 7 pounds. Waddya think?
GUESS WHAT'S PLAYING ON THE TV? A repeat with paul Simon singing "Whose Gonna Love Ya When Your Looks Are Gone?" - HAHA isn't that funny?
Have a great day, and thanks for listening.

TT. what part of NW Oh are you in? I am in Toledo/Springfield/Holland area and Molly is in Point Place (I think) area.

I dont think those diets are any good, I think that it has to be a concious (sp?) and willing decision to make every day, think of it as a life change. Curves is good, execept for their hours. I was a member of St. James - which really helped but kinda pricy. I am an alumus of Lourdes and can use their gym for free. Try walking around the block (if you are in a safe area with good sidewalks).

Anyways, come join us at the week of thread! And :welcome3:

Hi thanks for responding.
I generally walk almost every night at dusk, but again, I really don't like to go alone.
Sometimes I will carry my cat - I just don't like to do much of anything alone...but I love to be alone at home. isn't that strange?

I'm from the East side, BTW.

Thanks for the advice. I can't afford to join Curves after all. Too many things around here need to be fixed.
Oh well, oneday I'll get sick of being fat and just get on that bike.

Have agreat day,
Robin

I wanted to say hi. I am sort of new..lol. I joined a while ago, but then never really got a chance to get online. Then I made this little guy you see here in July, 2006. So now that the weight I gained being pregnant with him is gone, I really want to get motivated and lose the weight, and this seemed the best place to start. I notice a few of you are from Ohio...Toledo here. So I look forward to meeting you all and helping you while you help me!

I just wanted to stop in and say HI! too, I'm a nurse from Ohio too! Who'dve guessed so many nurses would be overweight for as much WORK as we do? So anyways, I'm from the other side of Ohio, NE, Canton, where the Pro Football Hall of Fame is (its the only thing that puts us on the map LOL)

Nursing school was stressful time for me too, well of course, I planned my wedding one year during school and was pregnant another. As long as you are putting your studies first! B/c once you get your license then you CAN afford Curves (well, I prefer the regular gym to Curves, but I like them both). Do you tape your lectures? I always taped mine but never listened to them, LOL but if you could walk while listening to the tape, it might distract you that you are actually exercising!

Speaking of nursing, I picked up a weird shift today, 11 am - 330 pm just 4 easy hrs relieving a nurse who is precepting a new nurse so she can go to some bigwig meeting. Shouldnt be too tough but I guess I should get ready for that. Good luck in your journey, come here often! I check in several times a day, it really keeps me motivated!
