Well congrats on finally doing it!

I wish ...
Hi there olivia627,
Congrats on getting back into jogging - you done great on your first times out. How are you going with the rest days in between? Can't believe my first post at 3fc is about jogging .. haha!! But I've always wanted to try it and always thought I'd end up killing myself ;) I'm 120kgs (265lbs) and am obviously very inactive. I can never imagine myself being able to just go for a run. Well not for a long time anyhow, my chest would burn, my knees would ache, I'd probably be wheezing like crazy .. yet there has always been something in the back of my mind that finds being able to jog very appealing. So I'm thinking that even though I probably wouldn't last long I should give it a try it. I'll probably be only able to job for 1 minute .. haha! But you've inspired me to start my own little jogging circuit in my backyard (to embarrassed to go out in 'public' to job). Wouldn't have a clue how to start a 'get fit regime' through jogging and walking though. Well, one that would enable me to stay alive and functioning afterwards. Any ideas? JO |
I used to be a runner in my 20's even did a marathon back in '97. After having 2 kids and settling down I haven't ran as much. I have a treadmill at home and I can jog on that for a long time but when I go outside I have a hard time jogging. I want to get back doing it but since I have 2 little girls I can only jog outside maybe 2 days out of the week.
Anyone else here llike that? |
Hi Cosmic gin! I'm glad I could inspire you to try to jog! All I can say is take it very SLOW and run in very short bursts while walking. There is nothing to gain from overdoing it and exerting too much energy, because you won't build up endurance that way. You'll only tire yourself out too quickly and even your walking will be lackluster because you'll be 'spent'. Trust me, I've done just that!
It does feel good to finally do it. You feel so proud of yourself and can try to go a little farther the next time. I'm still not sure what to do with my rest days. I don't know if I should reduce the number of laps and do it everyday, or if I should keep on doing the 10 laps and taking rest days in between. I feel like I need to do something everyday and don't feel good if I don't. I also tend to eat what I shouldn't on days when I don't exercise...when I SHOULD eat right! We'll see what happens, though. I'll figure it out eventually. Good luck to you! And me! |
bellybella, I'm still trying to work in my exercise around my 2 little girls and DH's work schedule. I'm a SAHM right now, so I have more opportunities to get out there to jog, provided I have someone to watch the little one for an hour or so. But, soon I may be working full time again, and then all bets are off. I just have to promise myself to take 1 hour per day for my health and fitness. It is a challenge though!
Good luck to you! |
hey gals, i just wandered over here from the 20 somethings, hope you dont mind! I've been following a jogging program for a few weeks now called couch to 5K in 3 months. Its great, starts you out at pretty low intensity intervals and slowly creeps up the intensity, im really enjoying it and doing better that i though i would. Its at www.coolrunning.com under the "training" section, then "beginning runners". Anyway, thought it could be helpful to other beginner runners!

Thanks denice81! I read about that program on the 20-something forum. Have you lost any weight yet from the running? And how have you progressed so far?
|
Hope- I think i've lost about 2 lbs (?) in the last couple weeks since i started, but even more importantly, i think i've lost about an inch in my "love handle" area! I'm trying not to weigh myself quite as much, but i can definately feel a difference. Also, i really havent done any cardio for a couple of years, so i was pretty intimidated, but its not too bad! I've stuck to the program and i've heard its common for people doing this to loose about a pound a week (with no other changes, ie diet). Also if you are a beginner runner, its important to do lots of strength training on your quads to avoid knee injury (just learned that last night from my father who is a doc).
