I am trying to keep things simple, 400 cal. breakfast, 100 cal snack, 300 cal lunch, 100, cal snack, 300 - 400 cal. dinner...I will you fill you in more later when I have more time to write..maybe I will send a sample menu and see what you think... I can not comprehend all this exercise and eating only 1,200 cal...I better really make them count! :)

I agree you definitely need to increase your calorie intake. or your body will start canabolising valuable muscle tissue for energy. Its great to see that youve stuck with your regime despite having no results for a while :) well done!

Calorie Tracking
I try for 300 calories for breakfast, 100 calorie snack, 300 for lunch, 100 calorie snack, 400 calories for dinner. I try not to eat after 7:00. I try to make every calorie count, especially with only 1200 cal. It looked like this might be working as I saw the scale start to go down for the first time in months, then five days later the four pounds I lost are back. I know water, salt intake are always a factor. I am so discouraged. I exercise a great deal. 1,200 calories is not much but as long as I continue to carry all this weight on midriff are and a very slow metoblism I am told to stick with less food intake.
Sorry to ramble. Sheila |
Hi Sheila,
Maybe post your food intake for a couple days and we can take a look at where there may be room for improvement? How much water are you drinking? |
Intake
Breakfast - Oatmeal 220 calories (add water), (not the prepacked, this is straight oats with almonds, cranberries
Snack - Yogart 170 calories Lunch - Lean Cuisene (usually about 300)..also eat at Subway once/twice a week...6 inch with no cheese or mayo Snack - apple/1 tbls. peanut butter..sometimes 2 cups popcorn...tue/thur. a pria bar (170 cal). ( I work out 2 hours on tue/thurs.) Dinner - 4 oz...chicken/fish/lean hamburger... usually dumped on a salad, one piece whole wheat toast 400 calories Snack (if before 7:00, sugar free candy/ or skinny cow ice cream/100 cal. I am finding it almost impossible to stay under 1,200 I have been right around 1,300-1350. This is a pretty typical day. I am trying to get more soup into my diet. |
well, I am certainly far from an expert, but it seems like your cals are so low and your exercise so high that your body may be clinging to the cals it has for dear life!
Say you personally need 1500 a day. If youre consuming 1300 and work out to the tune of 500, you're only getting 800 cals a day! that's way too little! I would suggest bumping up your calories to around 1600-1700 for a few weeks, BURY THE SCALE for the time being, and incorporate more protein and less simple carbs into your diet. Your eating plan looks very healthy, but I'm thinking the lower carbs will also help offset the temporary confusion your body will be having to the increase in cal's, KWIM? Also, whats in the yogurt? It must be sugar for 170 cals. 1/2 c of sf yogurt is around 45 cals. You might be better off having 1/2 c yogurt, small piece of fruit, and 1/2 c cottage cheese for a snack. Take care, that is a challenging one... Tara |
Well, what you're eating sounds good, except for the high cal yogurt...try switching to low fat, I think Dannon light and fit is 90 cals. I have heard of people alternating the amount of calories they have, like a higher day a couple days a week, maybe 1800, and the others stay lower?
|
Thanks for your help, I am taking and running with it! I will report back in a few weeks with results. Right now I need to bury my scale...
See you in a few weeks :) |
Good luck, girlybooo but I know you won't need it :D

When you are making your oatmeal is there any chance you can add 2 egg whites to the mixture,,(ya it looks gross) but you are adding a bit more protein. cottage cheese with the yogurt would be good, is there away you can double up on whatever you are cooking the night before and have that for lunch minus the bread? and how about a can of tuna with dill for taste in the evening, with cellery (or other veggie) are you taking a multi vitamin? |
:)
Thanks for the ideas,...I am taking a vitiamin,, I think I may start taking them twice a day..but then I have to deal with other issues.
You know I do need more protein. I know I do, thanks for the egg white idea it is a first time I have heard this and it sounds like a good idea. Thanks again! |
I was not dx'd with PCOS for years and years. Finally, after 5 doctors, I got a great endo who put me on met & avandia. I have lost weight (used to weigh 274 lbs) and what is better, sleep well at night. I had such extreme blood sugar highs and lows, I literally got nightmares every night.
My periods come like clockwork every 20 something days (used to be once every 30 something days), my acne is down. Hair growth is down (what hair on my face I have left from all the electroysis and laser treatments). The hair on my head is growing in thick now. My fertility is sky high even at 38 if I were to marry and have a baby, I could. :) My nagging plea: Please do fight for your right to be properly dx'd. Many doctors are lazy and will not dig into your problem. I was ALWAYS hungry, and what's more, I could never lose weight! It took for me, a 3.9 cm cyst on my left ovary (which burst finally...ouch) for a doctor to tell me I had PCOS. He would not give me meds though. I have to go to an endo. The endos are much more likely to find the problems. They comb through your blood tests and reallly try to make you normal. I have normal blood tests for years...but when I went to my endo 2 years ago, he said "my reading were off the charts". BTW, my sister did triathalons...she only lost weight when she was taking met and low carbing. She just had a baby boy, so all that is on hold for now. :D |
;) I agree, and I will talk to my doctor, she is new and wants to be proactive,, I think. I appreciate your input. Something is not right and I need to figure it out...
I just wrapped up our "Beaver Freezer" triathon saturday, the training is fun the competition is a bit intense...I am feeling so bad that I am by far the largest person...I really want to leave 220's for good. The sad thing is I visited a plastic surgeon (I had twins) and I was hoping for some tummy tuck advice, instead he tells me that my BMI is considered high enough for gastic bypass (BMI 37). :( I do not want to work this hard to be told this. Thanks for your input..I am starting to ramble. |
Try to focus on your health girl. I totally understand the tummy tuck thing...I think about having one since I have a rather flabby fat tummy even though I never had kidlets...however right now, you are needing to find out what is going on!
Doctors are detectives and they can only make educated guesses. For some reason, most of them think that PCOS is all about having babies. They do not see the value in treating it since they do not understand that a person can lose weight and have their diabetec factors REDUCED when they blow off blood tests. I say this having a doctor for a mom. I respect doctors...but I know they are not the know-all for everything. Take charge of your medical destiny. See if you can get thyself to an endocronologist, a hormone doctor. The hormone doctor will take a deeper look at your results and you may end up feeling better like I did. I was miserable at 274 lbs. I had rapid heart beat (took a beta-blocker for that), headaches from that....and my feet hurt so bad! I also had the nightmares from my blood sugar going UP then DOWN (like over 100 to down to 60 then back up again). I was told over and over nothing was wrong with me except for my bad eating habits. It is sometimes an act of God to get proper dx'd. Best wishes and let us know what happens! |
Don't be so hard on yourself. I was very impressed to hear that you were taking part in a triathlon!!! Regardless of your weight, you must be in great shape nevertheless. I know that I would not be able to handle a triathlon. Give yourself a pat on the back for your already impressive accomplishments. I'm sure that the weight will come off soon enough.
