Week of~~June 5~~

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope everyone has had a great weekend so far. The weather finally cleared up here, so we were able to get outside. I took Alex to the park yesterday and he had the best 40 minutes just running from one thing to the next the whole time.

OK, he needs me!

LBH 06-05-2005 10:20 AM

Hi All,

Our weekend is pretty nice so far. Went to a college grad party at a cousin's house yesterday. Today will probably just be cleaning. It's supposed to hit 90° today...and my A/C isn't working...a couple of wires are disconnected, and DH doesn't know how to hook them back on. :(

I'm soo excited, we got tickets to see the Wiggles in Philly 8/20! :dancer: Peter's gonna have soo much fun!

Have a great day all!

lppennington 06-05-2005 10:32 AM

I got burned on Fri. I was helping out at our schools golf outing, helping raise money for scholorships. Yesterday I pretty much took it easy. It got up to 87 yesterday and is suppose to be closer to 90 today. To bad I have to be upstairs working on homework. (It gets really hot up here) Well I have two test to study for and homework to do for tommorrow, so I will talk at ya all later.

Hello to everyone!

KarenK 06-06-2005 09:14 AM

Good morning everyone!

Lauren: We are going on that Sunday! I can't wait to take him. He is SO into them. I intend to leave with PLENTY of time to get there this year. And make sure I understand the directions too!

Lisa: Ouch. I ate getting sunburned. Hope you are feeling better today.

Have a great day!

LBH 06-06-2005 09:28 AM

Karen, I was gonna ask you if you were going, but by the time dh said which day, it was 9:55 and tickets were about to go on sale! I wish I had picked Sunday, because we are planning to make a weekend of it and do Sesame Place and a day in Philly too! DH said we'll take Friday off and do Sesame Place Friday, concert and a little philly Saturday and back to SP on Sunday. :D I'm soo excited, it's like going to see a Journey concert!! Man, how far I've come...

Lisa, OUCH! Did you soak yourself in vinegar? It does wonders! Soak some paper towels in vinegar and spread them out on your arms, legs, back, wherever you're burned. It takes the heat out. And of course lots of aloe! Do you have A/C?

DH got the A/C hooked back up by early afternoon yesterday and we cranked it up! It was soo hot, the sweat was just dripping off us. The house is a cape cod, so the bedroom and kitchen are basically in the attic.

I'm going to try and log everything I eat today. I've got to get serious. I don't know why I can't stick to anything. :(

lppennington 06-06-2005 11:23 AM

The sunburn on my face and arms are almost all gone. Those body parts are used to getting burned. It is my chest area that is really hurting. I have put aloe but that seams to make it hurt worse. I am just using air conditioning and trying not to let anything touch it. My arms and face are already itching (and tan).

I have not seen the Wiggles, is that something new?

Well back to work.

LBH 06-06-2005 11:55 AM

LOL, Lisa, I don't think you'd be that interested in them. They're 4 Australian guys that are a kid's band, and have a show on Disney. They're silly, but really awesome! :D The kids LOVE them...OK, I do to! http://www.thewiggles.com/

KarenK 06-06-2005 02:36 PM

Lisa: Ouch. Hope you're feeling better soon. I hate, hate, hate to burn. I'm going to put up the slip 'n slide this afternoon and I'm probably going to get my back burned. I couldn't reach it to put on sunblock! Oh well, I'm going to slather it on Alex so he doesn't burn. Oh, and the Wiggles are awesome! Alex is constantly singing their songs. The concerts are a lot of fun. A LOT of toddlers dancing around like mad.

Lauren: I signed up for the "club" thingee with ticketmaster so I actually got to buy my tickets on Friday. We are on the floor section 211 with VIP seats. I hope that means hot potato seats!

OK, gotta go get that slip 'n slide and cool Spiderman water sprinkler up. See y'all after the fun!

LBH 06-06-2005 04:31 PM

Karen, we're in section 201, row 8, seats 1-3. Here's a chart... http://www.ticketmaster.com/seatingchart/16533/864

KarenK 06-06-2005 04:50 PM

Hmmm. I think I've been swindled. When I was purchasing the tickets it said floor VIP so I thought we had great seats, hot potato seats in fact. Now looking at the chart, we aren't on the floor and it says nothing about VIP seats! Oh well. For $131 I think there should be at least one coloring book per block of tickets sold!

Hello Ladies,
I'm a newbie. Just re-started WW last Sunday and trying to get back into the swing of things. I may have posted here once or twice last year, I was on the cusp of turning 30. I just had my third child, a beautiful boy, a month ago, and I have an almost 4 year old daughter and a 2.5 year old son. I'm currently living in Germany, but my husband and I are no longer in the army. I look forward to getting to know all of you!!!

lppennington 06-06-2005 08:17 PM

Hello and welcome Lori! My name is Lisa. I am 32 and living at home with my parents, while finishing up college. I am getting a duel degree in Business Management and Marketing. Hopefully I will finish at the end of next spring. Graduation is May 20th, 2006. (Less than a year, not that I am counting.)

LBH 06-06-2005 09:49 PM

Hi Lori, Welcome! I remember you!

LBTEPA 06-06-2005 10:42 PM

Hi everyone
welcome Lori!
How are your studies going Lisa?
That is so funny about the Wiggles being huge in the US, we kind of just think of them in the context of the daggy old ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission - non-commercial station). I'm so glad you enjoy them! They are in my future as Lara doesn't watch TV yet.
We had a big week - a friend came over on Sat night and COOKED US DINNER b/c she felt like cooking, it was sensational, 4 courses, wine, nibblies, mmmmmmmmmmm ate ourselves to a standstill of course, oh dear :( Then on Sunday I had an allergic reaction (to ?) and felt really sick so didn't argue when DH wanted chinese food...sigh... I just inhale that stuff.....
Oh well, new week, move on, eh? DH started his new job yesterday and absolutely loved it :D I am so happy for him (and our bank balance tee hee)
I realised how much my after-dinnerglass of wine was habit rather than desire when I didn't have one yesterday. This is good. I can change my habits, yay!
I am vaguely thinking of training for a half marathon in October, waddya reckon?
Have a great week everyone

LBH 06-07-2005 08:11 AM

LB, sorry you had an allergic reaction to something, but how awesome that someone cooked dinner for you! :) Good for you realizing you can kick the after dinner drink habit. :)

RoadRunner 06-07-2005 08:22 AM

Good MOrning all!!!
Karen and Lauren--we are seeing the Wiggles in August also here in N.O. I didnt want the floor seats cuz everyone stands up so I got the Hot Potato seats....Of course the little one is obsessed now with "Nee"(Barney)I am waiting again for Dragon Tales to come..THey put on a great show and really fly..She was too young to remember them the last time they came here. She is getting worse and worse for getting into things..Last night, she emptied out all the dish towels, plastic bags, goldfish crackers and juice on the kitchen floor and was laughing and rolling in it--then she climbed into the tub with Sissy with all her clothes on...She is soo funny now...Of course, she wakes up at 5am on my day off today...  Oh well..it was sleeping later than 3:00 like normal!!!

LB--I have done a few 1/2 Marathons..It wasnt too bad if U use the trainer guide on the internet..Before baby days, I would do 8 miles/day..I loved it and really want to get back into it...I never did things to "win" I did them to finish...It sure was a great weight loss maintainer..In 2001, I was wearing a size 1 and weighing about 105lbs and eating whatever..I just have to get back into the excercise..That is the key to it all...

Hello again Lori--Glad to see you are back!!!
Lisa--Glad the burn is better!!
Well..off to get the day started...I have shopping to do, cards to write, gymnastics class etc etc..I love that extra day off during the week...It is almost worth the 4--10 hr shifts starting at 4:30 AM!!
Have a great day!!!
RR
(if i dont start running, I will have to change my name from ROadRUnner!!!)

mom2twinz 06-07-2005 09:37 AM

Hi everyone!

It's been a couple of weeks since i've posted, but i haven't forgotten about you.

LBH- We went to see the Wiggles last year. We had front row seats, and enjoyed an awesome show (i think i enjoyed it more than the kids ;) ) !! Dh called the venue box office about 4 weeks prior to the show hoping to get some decent tkts. Much to his surprise, the agent told him to call back in 2 weeks as the venue needs to hold "x" amount of seats available for handicapped attendees. If they are not sold by 14 days prior to the event, they get put up to the general public...that's how we got front row, at no extra $$!!

LBTEPA- I say, "go for it" as far as the 1/2 marathon is concerned. Once you DECIDE, and commit in your mind you are going to do it, it will be much easier to train for it...much the same as the glass of wine/night. You need to DECIDE that it is not necessary, and that you don't need it. The mind is a powerful thing :D

LISA- sorry to hear about the sunburn, that's a bummer!! Just think if you are trapped on the second floor, studying in 90* heat, you just may sweat away a couple of pounds--that could be the positive side of it ;)

LORI- hi, and welcome back!! my name is edith, and i am a sahm of twin 4 yo twin girls. I am fat, but i'm working on it

edith

Momadance 06-07-2005 08:17 PM

Edith - great going on the two cheers!

The Wiggles - I forbid them in my house, but the kids are welcome to watch them at the "momma gym" (my gym has child care, and they put on the dvds for my kids). That is how I get them to go on days when they aren't in the mood, I have them sing "hot potato." They freak me out to no end, them and Barney. Uggg. I have caught myself watching Arthur and The Backyardigans when the kids aren't around, so I don't think I'm a total crumudgen.

For those who remember my struggles with my coffee, I switched from 1/2 & 1/2 to 2% last week and lost 3lbs this week. I think I can maintain this for a while and eventually switch down to 1%. I didn't realize it but, I was consuming something like 1/2 my fat calories from my coffee habit. DUMB! I'd rather save that up for an occasional piece of cheesecake, am I right?

And this is a general public service announcement - most towns have public walking trails in preserved "open spaces" areas. This is a great, free way to vary up your exercise routine and actually enjoy your exercise, rather than adding up miles to nowhere on your treadmill. We have an Audubon Santuary within walking distance of our house and this has become a nightly treck. I can push the kids in the stroller after dinner, I get in my exercise, they get to watch the birds and hunt for turtles and everyone comes home ready for bed, happy.

LBH 06-08-2005 08:06 AM

Hi All,

Moma, good for you on the coffee habit! I have a coffee habit too, and at home use 2%, but at work use regular milk or the flavored creamers...bad, bad, bad. As far as TV, I refuse to watch the Doodlebops! I mean, there is NO educational aspect to that show... it is the stupidist thing out there! Not real fond of the Higglytown Heroes either, even though they have a lesson, kind of.

Edith, I wish I knew that before we ordered the tix. I wonder if they do that here?

RR, OK, here's one for ya'...last night we were wondering what Peter was doing on the other side of the bed...figured he was hiding on us, but then realized it was waaay too quiet. So DH goes over there and next thing I know he's saying, Go show your mother! He was covered in Cetaphil cream!! I almost died laughing, but had to try and keep a straight face. :lol3: All over his hands, arms, face...it was one of the big pump bottles! So we gave him a towel to wipe it off and I told him if he wants cream, he can have it, but to ask mommy or daddy first!

Have a great day all!

KarenK 06-08-2005 09:32 AM

Hello everyone! Yesterday I gave a career day talk to 100 5th graders. It was definitely an experience! It was actually pretty enjoyable. The kids were great. Two of my fellow speakers were local radio DJ/traffic reporters. (Lauren-1010Wins and 101.5). We also had a cardiologist, a medical technician and a day care owner.

Edith: Cool on the front row tickets. We were trying for hot potato seats, so I started as soon as I could. I'm very sad that I thought I had them and I didn't.

RR: It looks like the Wiggles will be getting a visit from all of us this summer! Cool. You are a better woman than me. I don't EVER put Barney on. Alex has no idea he is a show! He has a book with him and that's enough for me.

Moma: Cool on cutting down on the 1/2 and 1/2. I'm lucky there is one bad habit I don't have...drinking coffee. If I did it would be full of cream and sugar.

Lauren: I so agree with you on the Doodlebops and Higglytown Heros. I can't stand them. Alex likes the Doodlebops tho. I let him watch them sometimes.

Ugh. Diaper duty calls.

lppennington 06-09-2005 09:35 PM

Okay, here's what I want to know, can you loose weight just by sweating? I mean really loose weight? It has been in the 90's all week here and I really have been feeling it.

Other than that classes are going well. In two of my classes I only have two more weeks. The other class that I am in right now lasts five weeks after that. Also, when the first two end, I have another one start up (for five weeks). Then, I will be off for four glorious weeks. I may go visit friends, and take a day trip to Grove City, PA (at the outlet mall). It is a wonderful place there. Pennsylvania does not have sales tax on clothes so we go and stack up.

How is everyone else doing?

What is Doodlebops and Higglytown Heros? I must have been out of daycare a lot longer than I realized. They can't be as bad as Barney. Of course, the kids had to watch him every single stinkin' day. I got to the point of hating him. They cant be that bad. Can they?

LBH 06-10-2005 08:24 AM

OK, this is me today: :rain: I'm soaked! :( We had a big 'ol thunderstorm on the way to daycare....it started pouring just before we got there and I got totally drenched getting the boys out! Not to mention a little :yikes: at the lightening...me w/my umbrella! My whole back is soaked...my sweater in currently on the back of my chair with the portable heather blasting on it to dry. Thankfully the shirt I had on underneath is thin and quick drying. My skirt is also soaked, but that's thin too, and a few minutes standing in front of the heater should fix that.

Lisa, Hmm, if sweating really works that well, I'm turning the A/C off in my house and hanging out in the kitchen! :lol3: Those are just 2 more stupid shows on Disney! You're not missing anything. The Doodlebops are a 3 person band in silly...almost freakish...looking costumes and makeup. There's no lesson or anything educational about it. Higgleytown Heros has a lesson or cute story to each one, but they just freak me out. They look like Weebles, kind of, and they pop open and others ones can hide inside them. Really weird.

Karen, how did you get hooked up with 5th graders? Did you tell them how much better it is to be a SAHM than work?! ;) Just kidding... I was actually thinking about you yesterday as I was reading jobs, there was one for an occ. therapist.
