Lantana Desert Plants

https://publish.comcast.net/clipart/...gardening1.gif
As promised..more pics! Here are some of my Lantanas that seem to grow well out here. All of the lantanas you see I planted last October. They were just teensy weensie plants then now look at em'! Amazing what a little bit of fertilizer and a lot of watering & TLC can do. :D They are great hummingbird and butterfly attractor plants as well. I am hoping 1 day I can actually catch a hummingbirds picture.
This one here is a yellow ground covering one...its about 4 feet long by 3 feet or so wide...and I just trimmed it too!

:flow1:And here we have another ground covering Lantana. this one is more of a bright orangey yellowie color. Measures about the same size as the yellow one in the previous picture.

:flow1: This Lantana is also a ground spreader cover upper. This is a lavendar one but it lays a bit lower then the other lantanas.

Noodles913 09-03-2003 01:49 AM

:flow1: This Lantana is a pastel color. This one grows more like a mini tree/bush. It is about 3 feet tall and its branches are about 3 feet or so long.

:flow1: Now this Lantana here is a magenta with speckles of orange and yellow colors. It also grows more like a tree/bush. It is about 2½ feet tall and the branches are about 2-3 feet long. Pretty huh!

:flow1: And here we have my Palm Tree. I must be nuts..I planted this on August 25th when it was about 97° out and sunny. Figures..right after I planted this the clouds rolled in and it got shady. It took me about 2 hours to plant it because you have to dig the hole 3x as big, and you can't just "dig". You have to use the digging stick to break up the ground. Then you have to mix the bad dirt with 50% mulch so your tree has nutrients. The rocks are there so the monsoons didn't blow the tree over. Now I just hope it grows nicely. It won't get too big cause it is a queen palm but it should give off some shade in about 2-4 years.

Your Daily Picture!

https://publish.comcast.net/clipart/...gardening2.gif

:flow1:Ok what you see here is the start of my flagstone path I put together myself. The river rock is around my J & P groundcover roses, which weren't doing too good at the time, but they are perking up now. I got all of the river rock for free! About a truck bed full..that's just a few pieces ya see there...

Part 2..

https://publish.comcast.net/clipart/...gardening1.gif
:flow1:Here is the rest of it on the one side of the house. It took me about 8 months to finish the path. I had to rake away the rocks, level the dirt, water it down, lay the stone, make sure it's level again (which I did a horrible job at!) and then re-rake the rocks over and squirt down the flagstones. PAIN IN THE.... Next time I hire someone to do it. :dizzy:

Noodles913 09-05-2003 02:51 AM

:flow1: Ok this is on the other side of the house where my hose bib is. I laid the flagstone for this side too. Now it may not seem like a lot of work, but if you live in Tucson, you know how the dirt is around here! I have a 15 pound digging stick I have to use to break up the dirt, then I rake it down for the stones, then water it down, level the dirt, lay the stones, stomp on the stones, rake rocks back over them, etc. The stones look crooked but it's because of the angle they are at. Those ones that look just tossed on there are actually on a hill. I had to design the stones this way cause I kept slipping when I would go up to get the hose (it sat on an angle on the little hill there). Now it's all flat and easy for me to access. :p

YOu take such beautiful pics Noodles. You have a beautiful yard too! How about a pic of the house? I'm such a house junkie...love to watch that show Home Hunters on HGTV! Also love going to open houses.

Noodles913 09-06-2003 09:31 AM

Ok..I'll post some of the house real soon here...:) I have some but the car and truck are in the driveway, it was raining, etc. so the pictures came out lousy. I'll try this weekend to get better ones. Besides, I have a little more I want to do to the common area part of the yard before I take the full house pic. (Yea..I'm nuts...one can never have enough flowers. :flow1:

Here is the bad shot of my house...rain and all! It looks smaller than it actually is. It's a long walk back to the gate there. I have both sides of the flagstone path lined with Cacti and Lantanas. Those bushes there with the pink flowers are Oleanders. They are HUGE! I need to trim them. I'll get some better pics this week of the house and roses for ya. :flow1:
