**Kid Chat - Week of 4/27**

Hello all you moms!

So what interesting things are your kids up to this week? We're just trying not to abuse our son anymore! Yesterday I was trying to cut Peter's nails and he was squirming too much and I got the pad of his finger, instead of the nail...oh, he screamed and cried, and it was bleeding soo much! :( When will the torture end for my poor baby?! I felt soo bad, that's the first time I've gotten him good doing his nails. :cry We put a band aid on it and eventually it stopped...now I have to try and finish cutting his nails today!

Peter's been trying his darndest (sp?!) to sit up these days! In his car seat, on the sofa, in our laps, he doesn't like to sit back, if he's semi-reclining, he wants up! My baby is growing up too fast!! I really think daycare is good for him too. He is starting to "talk" more, instead of just cry. He and his "big-headed friend" Dominick lay on their play gyms and talk to each other. (DH calls him "big-headed Dominick"!! Isn't that horrible?! I mean, the kid does have a big head, God help his mom, I hope she had a C/S!! I tell him he's soo bad, Dominick is Peter's first friend, he should be nice!!)

They put him in the exersaucer thing there sometimes, with a blanket wedged in front of him to keep him upright. He seems to like it, but I think he's got a month or so before he really has the strength to keep himself propped up. We don't have room for one of those at home, but we definitely want to get one of those doorway jumpers. I'm gonna start doing some research to see which one is safest. I was always wary of them, but I think they've made them much safer nowadays.

I think he's going through a growth spurt the past few days, because his eating habits have been pretty erratic. He's also getting a lot nosier and will take a few sips (whether boob or bottle) and look around, take a few sips, look around...it's very annoying, especially when it's boob, because he lets go, instead of trying to take the boob with him!! Not that that would be a good thing either, but considering the latching problems we have, it doesn't make the situation better.

I'm going to call the MW and ask her for a prescription for Reglan, which is an anti-nausea that has a side-effect of increasing milk supply and helping let-down. I really need to get a better supply up, I'm just making it with BM/formula mix, and I really wanna get rid of the formula. Oatmeal and Fenugreek just aren't cutting it!

I guess Karen will be coming home today or maybe tomorrow. Hope all is well with them!! Karen, if you get a chance to lurk, post us a little update!! :D

Have a great week moms!!

RoadRunner 04-27-2003 05:47 PM

Lauren--Still too chicken to cut Kaylee's nails!! I still just file them down!!! SHe is doing soo much better!!! Loves the yogurt she gets!!! I think she will hate to be done with the AUgmentin!!!
I bought her a high chair yesterday,,It is hysterical..SHe lookes like a p-nut in a huge basket but she loved to sit and watch us eat last night while playing!!!!She is getting great with her spoon..I think Ms Little Bit is ready for food!!!
My supply is just enough for me!! The oatmeal is helping and I am pumping enough for her 3 daycare bottles mixed with Enfamil Lipil. She eats just BM at home.. This is our schedule now:
6:30 BM then to daycare, 8;30 1 Tbls Rice cereal, 9:00 3 oz Enfamil-2oz EBM(mixed), 12:00 6oz formula mixture, 3:00 6oz Formula mix, 5PM BM, 7:30 BM, sleep, 9PM BM sleep, 11:30pm BM sleep, 1AM BM sleep, 4AM BM sleep until 6am and it starts again..She naps 4 times for about 30 minutes each at daycare....

SHe is soo nosey...I love when she is on the belly(cant keep her on the back anymore) and lifts up like a turtle looking around..I just laugh.
Well..off to get the bottles done for tomorrow...

Hello All!!

We are home now. Finally. I am so glad to be home from the hospital. I was going stir crazy in there (although it was nice to be taken care of :) ).

First, picture link to follow!! Right now you have to go to Ofoto to see them. DH spent so much time with me at the hospital he hasn't had a chance to post them to the website. We are going to take some in a little bit of him in his coming home outfit in the crib. I will try to post one of those on the thread too.

I must say that I'm not crazy about having had a C-section but seeing all the other women who had regular births and all the things they had to go through, I feel lucky!! I've been on nothing but Tylenol since Saturday so I guess I am doing pretty well. The nurses were amazed that I wanted nothing but Tylenol. The demerol shots right after surgery did nothing and the percocet gave me nightmares.

Baby Alex is georgous. I'm not partial or anything either!! All the nurses said so. Of course, I am sure that is part of their job. He has golden blond hair and he is nursing like a champ. If he wasn't so good at latching I would have had a real problem with nursing. He just pops right on. I am still waiting for my milk to come in.

Uh oh, his highness is calling!! Will check back again later with picture links, etc!!

Have a great day.

LBH 04-28-2003 04:24 PM

KAREN!!! Where's the picture link?!?! How dare you leave us in suspense!!

I'm soo happy for you guys!! I'm especially excited that he's nursing like a champ!! :D I wouldn't wish what I've gone through on anybody!!

Glad to hear you only need some Tylenol, that's awesome!

Now hurry up and get back here with that link!!

Good something. Morning, Afternoon? I'm not sure :).

Lets just say it was a LONG night. He was nursing every hour to half hour. My nips are sore just from being used so much!! We couldn't get him to lie down for any length of time. If we held him (or rather, if I held him) he would sleep. If we put him down in about 15 min he was crying and would not be consoled except by nursing. This morning I gave in and gave him an ounce of formula (after nursing!!). He let me put him down and slept for about two hours. It was nice. After that he had a peeing/pooping marathon that kept us busy for awhile. Then we discovered the joy of the bouncy seat. He slept in there for abou three hours. He is now nursing again and I have discovered the joy of one-handed typing!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful day!!

Ellie120 04-29-2003 06:45 PM

Karen - The joys of motherhood :D He is absolutely beautiful!

Hi Guys,

I'm waiting to hear from the ped this AM. DH has brochitis, so I had to p/u at daycare last night. They pointed out to me that his bump is soft now, instead of hard. So I called the ped, and they called me back and said to make an appt. to bring him in tomorrow today. So I left a message with them to call me in the AM for an appt. Hoping they call soon, so I don't have to miss too much work.

He's sick too, all stuffed up, poor thing sounds horrible while nursing. :( I put saline drops in his nose, then sucked it with the bulb, but haven't really gotten anything out...just one big green boogy when we first got home. I guess it's in the back or something. He's acting fine for the most part, but he was sooo fussy last night, and since DH couldn't help me, I was a mess.

I had a rotten day at work. First, my mom gave me a loan so we could pay off some things, so I went to the bank at lunch to cash it. I went to her bank (not her branch) so I could cash it, because i don't have the money in my account to cover it. The bank would not cash it because of the amount. They called her branch and they would not give permission to cash it. I was like, it's from her home equity, you guys gave her the loan, why won't you let her use it?! ARGH, long story short, i left and went back to work, after wasting an hour of my time on them. :(

Then, that guy almost walked in on me AGAIN in the "privacy room"!! I heard him pushing the buttons on the door to unlock it and I yelled, I'm In Here!! He left his text book on the table, and he threw out the note I had in there saying to use the sticky pad and pen to write what time you'll be out!! I was livid!! Anyway, I started bawling, and couldn't get anything more out...3 measly oz.!! I went upstairs and waited an hour, then used the Exec. bathroom and got 2 more oz.

I guess it's safe to say yesterday was not a good day!!

RR, glad Kaylee's doing better!

Karen, welcome to life with baby!! You're doing fantastic!! I'm soo glad nursing is working out good for you!! Isn't that bouncy seat the best?! I don't think I could live without it!!

lizzard_h 04-30-2003 03:34 PM

Karen,
What a cutie-patootie!!!!!

The three of you were blessed with beautiful babies.

Who's next?????

NOT ME!!!!!!!!

LBH 04-30-2003 04:17 PM

 Liz, you're too funny!! Thanks for the compliment! Maybe we'll go in the same order again, RR, then me, then Karen?! I know RR is the next one to try!! My DH & I keep talking about it, but in reality, we wanna wait til Peter's close to a year.

RoadRunner 05-01-2003 07:30 AM

I say-------LIZ!!!!Dh says he would go crazy with another right now and I am chickening out..We have had some sad situations with pregnant women at work and babies with disabilities that I am in that freaking out mode right now..It is a scary thing!!!

Kaylee is talking up a storm,..The daycare workers were laughing cuz she was screaching and fussing at her mobil in her crib..They all went to watch her cuz she was talking soo loud..Hmmm..sounds like her mommy!!!!
WEll mom-in-law is here today for 2 weeks...she will be shocked to see Ms Priss!!! We go tomorrow for her 4 month shots!YUCK..

Lauren--let us know how Petey is doing??
Karen--How is sleep deprivation?
Take care!!!
Vicki

LBH 05-01-2003 11:44 AM

Hey,

Petey's doing great. He's his happy self (finally, it only took 3 months!) The Ped. said he's got a little cold, but nothing to do about it. He also said that there's nothing that can be done right now about his bump. The softness could be either blood or spinal fluid, neither of which is dangerous. It may get rock hard again as it heals. If it gets bigger, call, then they'll do a skull xray, to finda hairline fracture. :( We saw the Ped. I liked, not the one that called me back initially...I call him the pervert because he talks to your chest, not your face!

I still feel bad about what happened to him, don't think I'll feel better until the bump is gone and he's in the clear. :( I can't imagine how DH feels, if I feel this way.

I've been on Reglan since yesterday AM, so hopefully that'll kick in today or tomorrow and get my supply going. I'm trying to make an effort to pump every 2 1/2 hrs., so I get the boobs in gear!

Karen, how's it going? DH get pics up on the site yet?? Tell him to hurry!!

Ellie120 05-01-2003 04:49 PM

Karen - I just wanted to let you know that Blue Bunny has some really good SF ice cream treats. They a little high in carbs for me but DD is in heaven :) I got her the SF Ice Cream Cones, her favorite and the bars with the little crunchy things on them are pretty good too.

LBH - Glad to hear Petey is feeling better :)

Ellie

KarenK 05-01-2003 10:04 PM

Hi guys,

I am exhausted! I did get some sleep last night. Instead of being noble and trying to do it all myself I asked DH for help. It was also the first night I could sleep on my side so I was more comfortable (anything is better than sitting up all night long). We went out and bought a rail for the bed so I don't have to worry about the baby falling out of the bed. I have a high four poster that would cause serious injuries if I fell out, never mind Alex.

Lauren: The pictures are at Ofoto right now and I'm not sure about the rules on posting that link. Would it be allowed? I am glad that Petey is better. Hope it keeps up!!

Ellie: I don't have to do SF any more. Thank goodness. It all seemed to make me so gassy. I don't know if it was a combo of being pg and sf stuff or what.

RR: Sleep deprivation had me a total weepy mess. DH was terrified I was loosing my marbles I think. I would start crying and not be able to stop for hours. Kaylee sounds so cute.

Liz: NOT ME!!! I decided when I was lying in the hospital bed in tears because of the pain that I was NOT doing this again. I'm too old!! :) :p

I had my staples out today and the incision is a little less stingy. Still not terribly comfortable, but better!! I have to go back next week for another check.

Tomorrow we are going to DH's office for lunch. They had planned a surprise lunch for him because he was supposed to be
back at work and then I begged him to wait until Monday. I'm not ready to be alone yet!!

Hope everyone is having a super evening.

LBH 05-02-2003 09:59 AM

Hey Gals,

Karen, sure, you can post a link to the pics. The weepiness will not end yet...get through the first 6 wks., then it'll taper off. Hopefully Alex will not be colicky. How is DH doing with him? Is he getting the hang of fatherhood? That's great that he's helping you...did he give him a bottle. I'm glad you're getting sleep, but just remember, even if DH gives him a bottle during the night, you still need to pump, so you're not engorged in the AM, and so you don't lose any of your supply! :) That's the only problem with DH's helping. :( Personally, I'd rather DH give him the bottle in the evening, while I pump, and nurse him during the night. Peter nurses sooo much faster than he drinks a bottle. He's done in less than 10 minutes, when he gets a good latch! Bottle take twice as long usually.

I bought a new nursing bra at Motherhood yesterday. It's a snap in the middle kind, and I love it!! I swear they make the sizes smaller though..I've been wearing a DDD (pre-pg was DD), this one I bought yesterday is an F!!! I was like, Dear Lord, what has become of me?!?! I tried the E (which is the same as DDD), but it didn't quite cut it. It's soo nice and stretchy and lays flat in the middle, I don't even feel like I'm wearing a nursing bra! :D

TGIF girls!

RoadRunner 05-02-2003 06:46 PM

Hello girls..WEll..me made it through the shots...OMG..she didnt even cry..just screached when the 4 needles went in and then grinned as I breast fed her immediately to make her happy..She has been irritable all evening but asleep in my lap now..
She weighs 13 lbs now and the MD said she is below average but since her height and weight are proportionate that it was nothing to worry about.. SHe wants us do increase to 4 tbles rice cereal twice daily over the next week soo that she will get her daily iron requirements and then at 5 months, start yellow veges for 2 weeks then green ones and then at 6 months start fruits until she is up to 1/2 jar fruit, 4 tlbs cereal in the morning and 1/2 jar veges and 4 tbls cereal in the evenings and doing the breast feeding in the middle every 3 hrs or so...She was above average in develpmental growth...she was shocked that she was turning soo well and can lie on her tummy and stay with the head up for such a long time..She even pulled herself to the front of the table and made the MD laugh..I showed her how Kaylee can sing..and she giggled the whole time..My baby..I just love her!!!!I honestly think..she will be my only child cuz I can give her more if I stay with just one..esp having 2 more at home..I cried today thinking about not having another..so who knows.....

Karen---Stay strong..the weepiness will last up until at least weeks..I am sooo glad we have great men to get us through!!!

Lauren--Glad Petey is better...Did U take a pic of that goose egg????Hug DH....
Off to cook and wash clothes..That augmentin made her have the diarrhea through 3 sets of clothes at the daycare today....
Vicki

LBH 05-02-2003 09:54 PM

Wow, Vicki, she's really growing up!! Doesn't it just kill ya'? No, I didn't take a pic of it yet. My FIL&MIL were babysitting for a couple hours tonight, and my FIL said that'll probably be there for a couple months!! I was hoping it would go away within a couple weeks.

Have a baby shower to go to tomorrow afternoon, then to mom's with Peter and up to see Gran at the rehab. She gets out on Thursday. She's not real happy about it, wanted out on Sunday, but they won't let her. She's doing really well though, just needs to be up walking the halls with the walker or cane and Gramps.

Sunday we have to clean out Mom's garage...it's got all my crap in there that i didn't take when I got married, so now i have to get it out for a garage sale.

KarenK 05-03-2003 09:23 AM

Good Morning All,

Well, I have had a very needy boy since 5:30 this morning. I'm not sure what is going on, he wants to nurse continuously and sleep being held. I have resorted to the pacifier again. Please tell me he can't continuously be hungry!!

I have every symptom of way overdoing it so I am going to try to rest today and give my body some more healing time. One of my problems is a plugged milk duct. The book says to go without your bra when you can. So last night I did. I woke up with my entire night shirt soaked in milk!! I thought I had been sweating and couldn't figure out why because it was so COLD here! I got up to go to the bathroom and figured it out when I saw it in the light!!

We are going to be working on the website today so I will post the link just as soon as we are done!!

Lauren: Have fun cleaning out the garage. Ouch. I am so glad I don't have to do that. Hope you at least make some money at the sale.

RR: Too cool that she is being so cute!! DH is waiting for Alex to start interacting a little more. I told him it wouldn't be long.

OK, DH has managed to break a plate and the blender decanter while I've been on here. Guess I need to go supervise. Sigh. Oh well, at least he is trying!!

Have a great day!

KarenK 05-03-2003 10:14 PM
