hate shopping

I guess I just want to rant about this, I absolutely hate to shop. I went on my lunch break to get some pants for work. I can never find pants that fit. Its just so frustrating to shop in some of these stores. Seems like they only carry pants with elastic or really ugly pants that you dont even want to try on lol.. I really like Lane Bryants clothes but who can afford them. I cant wait until I loose some of this weight and can go shopping with less worry. This is one of the things I think about when trying to eat right... I want to have cute clothes that fit me right and are not plus size. :flow1:

runningfromfat 09-19-2011 01:30 PM

Make sure to sign up for coupons at Lane Bryant! I always was able to get some amazing deals there and many times they have bras and/or pants buy 1 get the second 50% off.

What about Old Navy, they have a good (and affordable) selection of plus size clothes online.

What is your secret to your weight loss? You are doing great!! I want to be where you are at and healthy.

liliesinmycereal 09-19-2011 02:10 PM

I used to do the coupons at Lane Bryant and use them on the clearance stuff!! I would also suggest Marshall's and Filene's Basement... They have some good clothes too!

Thanks! You can check out the links in my signature where I go into the details of my plan but basically I do the following:

1. Eat pretty much no sugar (just 1x/week, which constitutes of 1 serving of chocolate)
2. Eat no white flour (only whole wheat+lots of grains)
3. Cut out artificial sweeteners, so no pop
4. Moved around meal timings to help with hunger
5. Heavy weight lifting, cardio 3x/week
6. I've recently started seeing a nutritionist
7. Intuitive eating but being aware of portion sizes and calorie counts
8. Lots of fruits and veggies!
9. Lots of protein! It's good for building muscle and keeping me full. ;)

I don't calorie count because I've found that it actually makes me overeat (and become extremely nervous in the process) but I do try to make myself aware of the calories in items and I sometimes do rough estimates in my head.

Good luck and I wish you well on your journey!

I would be really interested in some recipes if you have any:)

seabiscuit 09-20-2011 01:20 AM

Just wanted to join in and say, I too have become frustrated with shopping for plus size clothes. I used to cry in the dressing rooms when things didn't fit. Now I just realize I am doing the best I can and it still is frustrating and upsetting when things don't fit but I just realize I WILL get to my goal weight some day! Believe in yourself!

Anything in particular that you're interested in? I've been meaning to post some on my blog so this will give me some good motivation. I'll probably get to it this weekend. ;)

sweetgyrl31 09-20-2011 04:20 PM

I really would like some simple recipes that even my kids would eat. I know thats alot to ask that kids like healthy food but im gonn try lol. Actually my 8 year old would rather eat veggies instead of any kind of meat, I think she may be a veggie eater. I will take any kind of recipe that I can get..
Thank you so much!!!

Ah shopping - man I use to love shopping when I was smaller (I was never skinny). Then I became the fat chick in sweats. Now as the weight is dropping I'm looking forward to shopping more and more (except for not having the money LOL).

One of my goals was being able to shop in a "regular" store, because like you said why is so much of the large clothing so fugly. And always too long.

blondie826 09-21-2011 11:23 PM

Shopping is totally depressing. I agree that my main goal is to be able to shop in the "normal" part of the store and get out of the plus size area. Heck, I'd be happy even in the largest "normal" size as long as it isn't plus size! Layne Bryant is probably your best yet even though it is expensive. I think the clothes are well made and look nice. Walmart has the "Just my size" line, but some of the clothes are just so ugly! And why do so many plus size clothes and underwear have to be such bright colors? Is it Easter year round or something? LOL

margarita124 09-23-2011 08:32 PM

shopping sucks-not only do I feel like crap for having to buy huge sizes that are not flattering..I have to pay more- LaneBryant, Avenue, plus size at Macy's etc...go over a size 12 and the exact same shirt is 3$ more.

I actually just ranted about clothing store's plus size areas on my blog.
very frustrating-though I do hope you found some success on your lunch break shopping spree!
good luck

LandonsBaby 10-07-2011 05:31 PM

Shopping is of the devil! I hate it.

khumphrey 10-10-2011 11:47 AM

I get frustrated when I shop because I cannot find cute pants that fit right. I also hate the highwasted pants. I have told myself if I reach my goal I am going to go to this more expensive store by me and by a really expensive pair of jeans and this is keeping me motivated. I want to wear cute clothes again and a bikini if I choose too. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

bellastarr 10-14-2011 05:03 PM

this is why i pretty much ALWAYS wear dresses!!! i hate pants!!!

envelope 10-14-2011 08:38 PM

For most of the time I was losing weight I only had 3 pairs of pants, and a variety of tops to mix and match with them. It seemed like a waste to buy more than that since I was planning on losing weight, and I really did not like them very much to begin with.

I usually shopped at Lane Bryant and Kohls.

Melissa Lynn 10-15-2011 12:48 PM

Yikes... I know how ya all feel! I have HATED shopping the last few years from clothing. So frustrating trying to find a good fit... I have resolved myself to not buy any pants or short till I get closer to where I want to be, but sometimes we just don't have a choice...

WinterCricket 10-18-2011 06:51 AM

I am at a point right now that I find clothes shopping so darn depressing. When I first lost all the weight it was my favorite thing to do. I needed to update jeans since winter is coming and it's making me sad. I like to spend some time in the second hand stores to score some great deals but I'm finding the size I am now seems to be the size a lot of women are in my town.
Now if I'm out purse shopping...I'm so happy :-)
Like it has been said sign up for coupons and check the internet for deals.

Melissa Lynn 10-18-2011 08:06 AM

WinterCricket I know the feeling.... LOVE thrift shopping, but it is of those things where when your heavy the selection is limited, & when you are average the selection is gone...

I love LOVE love handbag shopping though!!

Me + handbags is PURE LOVE! I have found the BEST bags. Had to have my very crafty honey build me a wall shelf to hold them all! People ask me all the time where did I get my bags...I NEVER tell them the store name don't want to give my sweet spot away! I'll say second hand and it cost me $4.00. :carrot:

Melissa Lynn 10-19-2011 09:59 AM

LOVE deals like that! I hate having the same handbags as other so I don't blame you for not sharing your source! I use to have TONS of bags but have been on a "downsizing" kick lately! That and I finally bought a coach and haven't changed bags in FOREVER!!! Which is crazy insane for me!!!

WinterCricket 10-19-2011 11:09 PM

A real coach bag is my treat when I finally get off 40lbs! I could see me loving that purse and only that purse for a LONG time. I can't say that to loud since my favorite D&G patch bag is sitting right here....looking at me :dizzy:
I just did a slight purge of some bags last week...broke my heart but I had way to many tiny tan ones LOL

shr1nk1ngme 10-19-2011 11:46 PM

When my weight is on its way down I shop Salvation Army because it makes more sense to me to pay $4 for a pair of pants I am only going to wear for a month. I have to shop pretty hard for them, but as I lose more, it gets easier. I think of it as a clothing rental, since I plan to just return them to Salvation Army when I shrink out of them! :)

WinterCricket I absolutely LOVE my coach bag... it was the most I have ever spent on a handbag but I picked very wise LOL... I got a all leather one with no CC print on the outside (so it would go with everything...) I think my biggest challenge was color, but I wear a lot of black so I went with what I thought I would use the most... I use to buy reproductions before, we have a killer international flea market close by where you can find ANY brand... LOVE love LOVE it hahaha haven't been there though since I bought the real one... I must say, you do get what you pay for! I even got it on SALE... which makes it EVEN better LOL

shr1nk1ngme- I am needing to hit me up some thrift stores... have put off buying anything but think I am gonna have to brake down and get some trasitional duds LOL

That's so funny because that was how I thought of it too! It's the same way with my books also. I buy them, read them and give them back. Now that is recycling! :)

A few years ago I found a $450 Burberry bag for $15 at a Goodwill. It was absolutely real, just a little dirty, and probably the best second-hand purchase I've ever made.

Too bad my ex threw it away when we got divorced.

Oh that is a beautiful purse! It is the type that goes with everything! I not sure how to share the one I have my eye on but then again once I get to the weight that I earn the purse I'm sure my taste will change but it will be a coach. I have heard NOTHING but wonderful things about them and while the price is up there it's not unreasonable for the quality and beauty that it offer's. I'm the sale queen so when I do get it...I will somehow get a few bucks off :dizzy:

I would have hurt him. :rollpin: You NEVER mess with a ladies purse....lol

shr1nk1ngme 10-21-2011 02:48 AM

Haha, just last week I found a Nieman Marcus cashmere sweater for $3.25, an Anne Klein full-length sweater coat for $5.00, and a green Prada purse for $3. Steals!
