Accepting that I'm in my 30s

So my 20s were wasted being obese and miserable, so I feel like I missed out on that age when you get to be fun, flirty and sexy. Now I'm at a healthy weight and I feel like I want to recapture some of that youth and that I can get away with a lot of things still because I'm in my early thirties. But on the other hand, I'm married and have a kid and I'm a professional (so wardrobe wise I need to be appropriate). So I'm trying to find that balance between making up for a time in my life that I feel like I missed out on and being a responsible 30 something. Does anyone know what I mean?

I understand...Take the time for evenings out. Get a babysitter and go out for a night on the town. I don't think you are too old for that;)

Caro0811 07-30-2010 11:40 PM

What? Thirties is the new twenties!;)
I think in fashion we can still get away with a lot. It's all a matter of good taste and wearing clothes that are flattering to your body.:D
As far as going out, it's a lot harder for me after my son was born and I'm just not used to it anymore. I just can't hang anymore!:dizzy:

I hear ya! I am 33 and did get to enjoy my twenties, but still enjoy my thirties, just in a different way! I actually think your 30's are better!
Being sexy, flirty and professional is SO much about attitude than anything else. You can be married and still carry things things off with CLASS! Caro is right, its about wearing the clothes that make you look and feel good. Not necessarily what is in style, but what works for you. If someone looks classy and has a confident, classy attitude that is sexy as heck!

All the PP's are spot on! Enjoy this time. I have found that I'm much more self-assured in my 30s, even at my current weight. Can't wait to see how I change when I get to goal. While you don't need to be shopping in the teen section at Macy's, there's nothing wrong with dressing up for a fun night own the town, taking a fun family vacation where you can let your hair down a little, etc.

I don't know how adventurous you're feeling, but one thing I want to do when I get to goal is a pin-up girl photo shoot for my husband. It will be tasteful, but it will also be very sexy and something that I think would be perfect to do as a 30-something, professional, mom.

I think this is just a really FUN thing to do. There's a company in Oakland that does a whole workshop on how to pose and then they do your pinup makeover with a photo session. The photos are just too cute; everything is covered but the poses and props are very vintage. I hope to go with a friend sometime next year.

Nothing wrong w/ getting a babysitter and going out to a club w/ the girls for a fun night. Dress sexy, dance, and flirt your butt off!!!

I totally know how your feeling! I had a brief amount of time from about 18-19 when I was "skinnier" by that I mean a size 14 and abotu 210 lbs..lol but that was the lowest I had ever been I had a year of clubbing, dancing, flirting, kissing, etc it was a blast but I started to gain the weight back and I met my now hubby and settled down and got married at 21.. and even though I love him more then anything I wish we'd have waited a little longer sometimes. .I think I settled down so early because I thought that i had gained the weight back that my youth was over So I might as well settled down. and now I'm 28 and realize I'm going to enter my 30's in a few short years:( and piddled away my youth because I thought I was over weight and I couldn't act young anymore.. boy how wrong was I! Now it I want to get to goal before I turn 30 and Have a blast in whats left of my 20's! Me and hubby want to travel more, go exotic places .. do exotic things ;) do things our weight has restricted us form like ziplining, parasiling, horse back riding, etc,,and go out dancing together! Ive always been fashionable because that's just who I am I'm a hairstylist so I always had to keep the latest trend and I always will I don't care how old I get!

PLus didn't you ever watch friends? 30's are the new 20's ;)

I agree...the pin-up photo shoot is an AWESOME idea. When I hit my goal weight, that might have to be a present to myself. :)

^This. I'm 37 and I have more fun now than I did in my 20s, and I love dressing with class. I love being thirty-something, period.

Me too!! This is exactly how I feel! Even at my current weight, I feel so much more confident than I did when I was in my 20s.

I def know what you mean. I spent my 20's married, obese, and totally miserable. I decided to change my life before I went nuts. I got a divorce, and then had WLS. I quit my job, sold everything I owned, and moved to NYC to start a new life. I had a whole lot of fun living in the city and being single. Adjusting to how differently people treated "thin" me was quite a hurdle. I had no idea how much attention I would get, but I have to admit, it was nice. Now I am 36, still single, and wish I had done things differently. I will always be the fun, wild girl, but I am ready to meet someone and settle down! You should still go out with your girlfriends and have as much fun as you can. :)
