I would like to beat Castle and Beckett about the head with a large stick.

Anyone with me? I think it would be a BIGGER twist if a tv show actually let the stars get TOGETHER once in a damn while!

I completely agree that it would be a bigger twist if they actually somehow got together, even if those two just made it through the summer or something.

Its almost like "I wonder what happens this time" whenever a pairing tries to get together in a series.

It's a formula that works though, and unfortunately when they DO get together, it usually spells the end of the series.

The viewing audience is sadly predictable. The writers know that people watch hoping the characters get together - but will stop watching once they actually do.

As one of the (apparently) few people who do like watching after main characters make a love connection, I've been frustrated repeatedly finding my beloved show cancelled because apparently no one else enjoyed watching once the love connection was made.
