How much water do you drink a day ...

but my diet coach wants me drink 5 litres a day (170 ounces)

seriously, doesn't that much water just mean I'm just filling up with water, to trick my body into thinking its full.

I have a 40oz Kleen Kanteen water bottle, and I'm having trouble drinking 4 of these.

I know you tend to lose more the more water you drink, so I was wondering how much you drink.

I drink about a gallon a day. More if it's really hot (I live in the deep south).

In addition to helping me stay hydrated, it keeps me from habit eating at work...drinking from a big mug all day keeps the snacking down...

So that's pretty much 5L too

The recommendation is to drink 8 cups of 8 oz glasses of water. This is around 64 ounces. I don't think you are really supposed to drink more than a gallon because you may get sick.

Actually, a better measure is based on your weight...recommended is 1 ounce for every 2 pounds of body weight. So a 200 pound person should drink at least 100 ounces/day.

I don't think a gallon is going to make you sick. The people that get "water poisoning" drink excessive amounts of water. I drank almost 2 gallons/day when I was pregnant and had no adverse reactions (other than using the bathroom every 30 minutes :)).

The only thing I would caution if you drink lots of water (and/or live in a hot climate)...watch your electrolytes. You can get electrolyte powder to add to your water. It's tasteless and has no sugar, so it doesn't add calories. (Check out Electromix by Emergen-C.) Also, if you start getting muscle cramps, you may be low on potassium.

Hi there,

I drink a minimum of 80oz to 112oz. I tend to drink on the high end of the range on days when I'm doing heavy cardio - I'll get 40-60oz in before I even leave the house for the day (I workout in the AM)!

170oz seems a little high. I would worry about washing out key nutritents from your body. You can get sick from too much water, but I think the levels at which you'd need to be drinking are really, really high. If you google it, there are tons of articles out there. Typically it happens to distance runners.

I drink 80 to 100 oz.

I don't measure or track my water intake. I almost always have a beverage going, be it iced water or iced tea, cf diet coke, or some kind of crystal light. I also drink protein shakes as part of my diet plan. They call for 8 oz. of water, but I add that plus a lot of ice and blend it up.

I have a 27 oz Kleen Kanteen bottle and I made it my personal goal a few weeks ago to drink 3 of those a day...so 81 oz.

Minimum of 1 gallon a day, more when it's hot. Plus, another liter while exercising.

memorysan 05-13-2010 06:48 PM

I don't really count it, I just always have a water bottle around me...and refill it when it gets low. I would say I'm drinking over 100oz. a day, every day...many days a lot more.

Fitin10 05-18-2010 12:52 AM

I don't specifically count it, but water is the only beverage I drink now besides a glass of milk at breakfast.

wow 5ltrs a day?! I guess on a super hot day i could manage that... Usually i drink 2ltrs or so a day, but i find that being a diabetic my thirst can be excessive at times.

mortonpixie 06-10-2010 09:07 PM

About 2L a day for me, not including the 40oz during exercise. 5L seems excessive to me as well. I agree with AFChick that a better gauge is based on body weight.

100oz = about 3L

This is what I more or less drink everyday. Most of the time it is a little more especially in the summer! :smug:
