Snacks

AzimuthRing - I like snacking on any type of nut. I know some nuts have too much fat in them, but just a handful of nuts is way better than a handful of chips.

Has anybody else here used it?

Thanks!

I was just about to go out and buy a Wii so I can get the fit program. But I just read that the PS3 is coming out w/the same type of program and controller. I'm going to hold off on the Wii since I already have the PS3. A lot of my girlfriends have seen some good results from the Wii fit.

I like the Just Dance game too! It is so much fun. I don't use it as my main source of exercise. But it's nice as an extra in the evening. Keeps me off my butt! Fun to do with the kids.

Hi Rock Stars,

Thank you everyone for being such a source of inspiration.....when I am having a bad-food day, I love to come here for good ideas.

I have some ideas for snacks. I find that I do better with a protein/good carb combination.....it makes the snack "last longer". In fact, as long as I have some protein with meals/snacks, I am rarely too hungry.

Anyway, here are some of the things I am snacking on lately:

cottage cheese--1/2 cup has about 100 cals and maybe 6 g protein. I combine it with cucumbers or tomatoes, or some cut up fruit and Splenda--then it (almost) tastes like a dessert!

peanut butter dip and fruit or crackers--I mix 1 tbsp of low fat peanut butter with a little applesauce or vanilla yogurt and dip apples, wheat crackers, or pretzels in it, very good.

yogurt and pretzels--I like to crush the pretzels and mix into lowfat yogurt, very good salty/sweet combo.

veggies and hummus--very good and filling if I use a lot of carrots, celery, tomatoes.

oatmeal with peanut butter--about 200 cals if I measure out 150 cals in oatmeal and 1/2 a tbsp of peanut butter, it's very filling, I mix the PB in when I pour boiling water on, it blends right in and makes the oatmeal creamy.

hard boiled egg and fruit or veggies--yes, I eat the yoke, and sprinkle salt on the egg, it's very good.

chicken breast and crackers--if I'm in a hurry, I just use lunch meat, otherwise I bake about 6 chicken breast each Sunday, so I have lots for the week. I also hardboil lots of eggs on the weekend, so I'm set for the week.

If anyone has other ideas for snacks/meals, I'd love to hear them....I am always looking to bust out of a food rut and try new things!

R :)

RS Thanks so much for posting all of your snacks! That is so helpful. The pretzels and yogurt sound delicious..I would have never thought to do that. I love salty/sweet combo.

I am going to do that this week! :D

Josiegrl 03-15-2010 11:27 PM

Hey girls, haven't checked in at all this week...it has been a really rough week for me. No exercise either, unless moving tons of loaded boxes to storage and then to the goodwill count. I am sore all over from all of it I know that! I was so sick last week and had that nagging cough all this past week. Hope to be able to hit it back hard this week. I have to get my caboose back on track!!!
I bought a Wii today. Not something I was planning to buy, BUT my neice got 2 for her birthday. (can you imagine that) so I took 1 off of my brothers hands. Can't wait to try it, it looks like so much fun.

AzimuthRing 03-15-2010 11:29 PM

Hi Josie -- so glad you got a WII! Sounds really fun. Moving boxes definitely counts as exercise.

Let us know how you like the WII...I am anxious to find out.....everyone I know raves about it.

squeak351 03-16-2010 10:41 AM

Josie- How in the world does a child get 2 Wii's for their birthday? WOW must be one lucky kid. haha

I have a WII and love it. I've slacked off playing it lately, not enough hours in the day to do everything. DH got me the Biggest Loser game for it on Valentines and I do like it, but I don't like it. I have heard that EA Active is a good game but haven't tried it yet.

Lately I have in my head that I need an ellipitical. Finally last night DH and I talked about it and he is going to buy me one! :) Pretty much I told him I would stop cooking supper if he didn't, haha, it was a threat he wasn't willing to find out if I was serious or not.

Rockstars,

I know we get caught up in counting calories, logging exercise, and getting down when the scales don't show us the results we are looking for. While we are all on a journey to get healthier, I thought I would remind us all that we are beautiful NOW, just the way we are (even though we are on our way to being EVEN hotter!) :D

LaughingGirl, thanks for that nice thought! I am feeling very fat today, and the last few days. I will be getting my period soon, and feel bloated and huge! Also, I have a running injury and haven't been able to run since Friday....I have walked a bit, and done the elliptical, but am in lots of pain, and very frustrated that I haven't been able to work out harder. Anyway, I feel awful about my body lately, so thanks for the reminder. I know that my husband loves me no matter what, my children too, but I think we are sometimes are own worst enemies! :)

Anyway, I will keep trying.....moving right along. Tomorrow I am going to swim at the gym for a good cardio workout that won't aggravate my torn muscle. Super, a swimsuit! :)

Hi Squeak - that is so nice of your husband! How sweet it was all 'his' idea :D heheh.

Running:
Love your attitude!! Go you.....

LaughingGirl
- you are so right!! I bought cute new workout clothes a couple weeks ago. For the longest time I would look at the bright fun colors and think I was not worthy of such fun. What a bonehead I am!! :frypan:

And then I used to think of all the exciting things I would do if I was thinner...but I went with my brother (Diabetic Z) hiking in the Utah Canyonlands for my b-day anyways!! It snowed :snow4: the entire time (and was lovely) -- and it was so worth the 9 hour drive through a mini-blizzard.

So there!! YOU ARE RIGHT! We are beautiful now and deserve all the best experiences life has to offer right now. :goodvibes

[QUOTE=AzimuthRing;3204223 We are beautiful now and deserve all the best experiences life has to offer right now. :goodvibes[/QUOTE]

You are so right! I have always done that thinking I would do this, or that when I was thinner. The only thing I was doing was not living life. Even if I am 208 lbs and overweight I still DESERVE to get out there and live. I DESERVE to be happy with me the way I am. This year I am going to the beach and next year I am going on a cruise and I don't care if I am at my goal weight or not. I am gonna go and have myself a grand ole' time. :)

Running- Sorry you are hurt. Sounds painful. What did you tear? I stretched my left ACL out that had to replaced, they used my own patellar graft, then I tore it loose, and had to have a cadaver graft that has held for 4 years now. I still have pain but not like before. I was never much a runner, just walking hurt, bending moving, everything hurt. I am thankful I went to the second surgeon who fixed me up.

CharlieBaby 03-18-2010 09:31 AM

Hi everybody! I'm new, and I wanna be a Rockstar! :) After a successful bout of weight loss a year ago, I am up several pounds above where I'd like to be, so I'm starting (re-starting?) some healthy habits. I've decided to stop my daily intake of soda and chips (am on day four of this, so far, so good) and am trying to add more exercise into my life, particularly now that the weather has turned nice. I joined the local YMCA, not so much for cardio as for weights, and I've taken up running again, and started hiking some trails by my house with my boyfriend and our dog.

I miss feeling energetic, and I miss the way my clothes used to fit. So...here I go. This thread is so positive and helpful (hello, snack ideas!) so I'm hoping to make it part of my daily trek to 3 Fat Chicks.

Josiegrl 03-19-2010 09:37 AM

squeak- it was a mistake that my neice got 2 Wii's. For some reason we were all unable to find one here where we live (like at christmas time) and when they finally found one my brother bought one and the grandmother bought one, go figure, lol. Oh well. I love it! I have been bowling and playin tennis, and even baseball. My 6 yr old is having a blast. It has turned pretty here so we play outside after school and while I am making dinner he plays and then we all play after dinner. WOOHOO right! i have already been scouting for new games, sigh....CONGRATS on the gift of an elliptical, yay you!!
Azimuthring-you are so right. We have to accept ourselves, I think doing this is helpful with the whole weightloss thing also. I had no idea that diabetic Z was your brother, lol. WOW, I am so in the dark sometimes..lol.

TOM is here to see me, lol. I too feel all bloated and icky! Just gonna keep on pushin myself this week though. After 2wks of not doing much because of being sick I have to kick my own butt into high gear!!
WELCOME CHARLIEBABY! The more the merrier I say. We are all here to support each other.

Josiegrl 03-19-2010 09:43 AM

BTW- thanks R for posting the snacks! I completely forgot to say that. I like to grab a handful of almonds. Sometimes havin the crunchieness of it steers me clear of wantin like chips. So sorry that you have an injury, hope that it heals quickly for you. BUT yay that you get to swim....I so cannot wait till we can get in the pool here. Whether I like the whole swimsuit idea or not, lol.
