Default Weight Loss - Men vs. Women

I'm very glad that my husband decided to jump in to a healthier lifestyle lately. Over the past few years (and babies!) we have gained together. I have been working diligently since summer, but he just started the first of the year.

Last week, I had a very big loss (to me). Three pounds! I was ecstatic!!

He lost THIRTEEN. Yes. In ONE WEEK he went from 322 to 309. Now, I realize that he has a bit more to loose than I do, he will likely slow down a bit - but c'mon!! Thirteen pounds?? He didn't even exercise and said that he just quit eating gigantic portions!!

BTW - I am really happy he is losing. I can tell in his face already! It's totally awesome, but why can't I do that!?

Yep, it just is. I've heard that it's because even fat men tend to carry better muscle to fat ratios than women, and that women's hormones make them better at storing than shedding (and for men, it's the reverse - their hormones make shedding easier than storing).

I once heard it said that a man on women's birth control pills would lose weight more like women do (although I'm hoping this was just someone's theory and not the subject of an actual research study - putting men on women's hormones to see how weight loss patterns change, seems more than a bit barbaric).

Although hubby and I started at similar weights (far too similar, and by proportion I was much larger, as there was only about 15 lbs between us, but he's 8" taller).

Still, I've lost more than he has, just be sheer persistance. He gets more frustrated than I do when the weight doesn't come off, so he has the occasional "I'll eat whatever I want to, when I want to" tantrums.

It's just a fact of life we have to learn to live with. Men can lose a pound or two just walking to the refrigerator.

My hubby who is normally tall and thin got a little chunky last winter when he got laid off. He quit drinking soda and went to crystal lite. He still ate whatever he wanted. Still ate a gallon of ice cream every 4-5 days and chips daily.

That one little change, stopping soda and he lost 30 lbs in less than 2 months. I was happy for him but envious. I wish I could do that.

My DH has gained weight, a lot more than he's done before; he's always taken it off faster than me. I really want him to lose it this time around since he's nearing 40, but he must have his beer, chips and nuts. Sometimes I feel like I'm being sabotaged (except for the beer, I don't drink) with all the food he leaves around the house.

Not only that, but he complains when the house is dirty, but never does anything about it; he leaves that to me. When the house is clean and tidy (and now, decluttered), he complains he can't find anything.

my hubby started to eat better lately just to be healthy not really to lose weight, and I told him if he weighed himself I would hate him lol He's 6'5'' and maybe 240 and I want to weigh less than him for once. I know he'll lose like crazy :P

UGH!!!! Hahahaha

My boyfriend lost 40lbs in the last few months and neither of us have any clue how. Meanwhile, I ended up gaining 10-20 Men stink!

Okay, fine, I'm happy for him. But raging with jealousy! He keeps trying to be supportive of me, which is wonderful, but when he decides to offer advice... I quickly get frustrated, and start screaming "You're a guy! You don't understand my struggle! *whinewhine*" until he backs off It's how I cope.

Well, us girls could lose weight like that, but it would probably be accompanied by a mass of back hair and strange urges to punch things. I'd rather leave testosterone to those better suited to handle it.

The urge to punch stuff I can deal with. The backhair though... ACK!

MisfitRycher~ Nice icon

Well, my DH is a stick person, actually in the time I have been with him (10 years) he has gained about 60 pounds, now he looks like a normal person!

All he has to do to "lose" weight is stop drinking pepsi... He doesn't have any to lose though.

Dieting advice from him only makes me made though, because he has a deep well of will power and cant understand why I don't.
