Intro, new here
Hi all!
I've decided that I need to lose weight. Well not so much decided...I was told by my dr today that I need to lose weight. He suggested that I join Weight Watchers, but I'm not sure about it yet. I've been counting my calories for awhile now & I actually have trouble meeting my required amount, so my problem isn't really food. I HATE to exercise...loathe it actually. I weigh 255.5 and I would really like to lose 30 lbs before I see the dr again in 3 months. I'm thinking that I'll need to lose 2 1/4 lbs a week in order to meet my goal. It's so much easier said than done. I guess I'm just looking to meet other people who are going through the same thing. Any ideas for exercises? I've started taking the dog for a 20 minute walk everyday & I'm considering joining Curves. If it's not fun then I know that I'll have trouble staying committed. I need to make a plan ASAP before I lose motivation. Thanks! Thelma |
Exercise :carrot:
I have an ipod shuffle, bitty little adorable thing. When it is time to get the housework done I put it on and MOVE thru the housework RAPIDLY. I use exaggerated movements, do things quickly, take things down the hall one item at a time, make more trips up and down the stairs than I need to... whatever it takes to get the heart rate up and a light sweat going. I can even fold and put away laundry which is one thing I will avoid if at all possible if I don't have the music going. I had my teenager load it up with his rock music (which I enjoy). I know there are all sorts of dance cds out there, cds for brisk walking, heck - opera if it makes you want to dance along! k :) |
Hi Thelma,
Welcome to this board. It's a great inspiration and has done wonders for me, that's for sure. I have no idea how many calories you're eating, but obviously, it's not working for you. Maybe you require less calories. As far as exercise: I can understand the loathing. However, sometimes, you gotta just go through the motions. I hate it too, but I love the results it gives me. Yes, iPod music is a life saver. Also, could you take an exercise class? The loud music might make you have more fun. Can you afford a trainer? That would be a great investment in your health and in the long run, cheaper than medications that people have to buy due to their poor health. Maybe you can find a public pool to swim in? I don't know, but the point is, there's no easy way to lose weight, but the feeling you'll have after you're done working out is so worth it! I wish you the best of luck in this journey. |
Thelma, :welcome3: You're off to a great start walking the dog everyday! Both of you get exercise that way. :D WW is a great plan! 2 1/4 lbs. a week is a bit ambitous though. 1-2 lbs. tops is the recommended amount. Your doctor will be thrilled if you have lost a pound a week by then. And he should be thrilled if you've lost anything, because that shows him you're trying! :D
