Default Finally Took the Plunge!

. . . and went swimming today.

I couldn't remember how many laps were in a mile so I overshot it a bit, lol. I'm slow, but steady. And I really, really enjoy it so it should be a snap to make time for it every few days. The only thing stopping me before was driving and getting access to a pool!

If it's a 25yd pool (most tend to be) 36 laps (1800yds) is about a mile.

Congrats!! I'm learning to like swimming more but I'm still slow.

Way to go! I assume you found a swimsuit somewhere after posting last week about the shopping issues.

Thanks, it did end up being rather scary, but it was comforting to know that I'd forced myself to do the same thing a few years back and got a lot healthier (and smaller!) because of it. But why oh why did I stop back then? It's really the only exercise I'm comfortable with at the moment, relatively speaking (although I hate the part of getting out of the pool).

Thanks. I am very slow but I keep telling myself that I'm not really slow, that I'm just "slow and steady." As long as I keep my legs and arms moving, I know I'm getting a workout.

And thanks for confirming that, I've read both 32 and 36 (I actually ended up doing 40). The employees there didn't even know! I'll probably stick with 36 per session for a while to see how I'll do.

Thanks! And actually, I haven't found something yet. I've still got my old suit (the one with the transparent stomach underneath the dress part) and I'm a wee bit uncomfortable with it. Lap swimming isn't as "revealing" with it as standing in place in the water, but I can feel the dress part swirl up and around as I turn at the ends of the pool. Plus now that I've worn it in the water, I'm realizing that it's not nearly as snug as I'd like (although I should be happy it's a little big for me now, lol). It'll do me for now, but I really can't wait to pick something else up so I won't feel so self-conscious.

Congrats, Sirenity! 32 laps is for a 25 meter pool, roughly, and 36 is the number for yards. A mile is 1600 meters. So glad to see another swimmer!
