I've never been crazy about sweet potatos but I ate one at a restaurant today because I've heard they are better for you than a regular potato. Aren't both types of potato not very good for you because they are starchy? What are the health benefits of sweet potatos?
Hm..do you know if there is any way to serve them besides with brown sugar or candying them up? I always see them served with sweet toppings. I like the fact that they are sweet, but what are some other recipes?
I reverse-engineered the sauce that Elephant Bar Restaurant serves with the sweet potato fries -- ketchup mixed with sweet chili sauce (you'll find that with the other Asian sauces at the grocery). It's really good! But much healthier when I fix it at home since I roast or grill my "fries."
I loooove sweet potatoes. Sweet potato fries, mashed sweet potatoes, pie, candided sweet potatoes...there are tons of great things you can do with them. I'd look up some recipes online and see what you come up with!
If you like spicy food, sweet potatoes make a great contrast for the heat.
Like Robin, I peel, slice, spray with PAM, and sprinkle with chili and garlic before baking in a very hot (450) oven till lightly browned. I also like them cubed and tossed into black bean soup for the last 1/2 hour of cooking.
I was never into sweet toppings on sweet potatoes. My parents never did anything more than topping them with butter.
I alternate between regular potatoes and sweet potatoes (always have some of each on hand). I treat the sweets the same as the whites - mash in a piece of laughing cow cheese (usually garlic & herb) and top with ICBINB spray.
Love sweet potatoes!!!!! They're so sweet all on their own so I just mix a little cinnamon in and am good to go. I've also done the baked fries with curry powder for a little sweet/savory taste....nom!
