Default No Wonder!!

So, I've been tracking my calories on fitday, and I got to wondering just how many calories did I eat before??

So, I just approximated a typical work day menu: three donuts and coffee with half and half for breakfast. A chicken parm pannini with lots of chips for lunch. A huge bag of candy for a "snack" and maybe a burger and fries for dinner....

I got to 5000 calories EASY, and there were days when I ate even MORE than that!!

Also, 62% carbs!

Jeez.

I totally agree! I was looking at the calories in my favorite meal at Chilis and that one meal with appetizer and dessert went over 3000 calories, and I was eating there about once per week!!

I've never even thought about figure up the calories I used to eat.. it would probably sicken me, ha!

I hear ya! I did the same thing shortly after I found Fitday and, OMG! Talk about an eye-opener.

Another big eye opener for me was finding out what constituted a "serving". Y'know, the thing where a serving of meat should be the size of a deck of playing cards? Or a "serving" of pasta is something like a tennis ball? (Mine was more like a volleyball....)

A big eye-opener for me was browsing through the "eat this, not that" site and seeing how much fat and calories were in some of my favorite restaurant meals. I mean, I didn't expect everything I chose to be uber-healthy but over 1000 calories for a single salad is just ridiculous! And seeing some of the other things I used to eat is much, much worse.

We used to eat out five days a week or more here, but we've reduced it down to once or twice and I make most of my own meals at home now. I also make sure I do my homework on exactly what I'll be ordering when we do go out.

a volleyball, that's too good that must be how my plate looked for sure....not to mention the garlic bread made with lots of real butter, salad with lots of dressing, wine (a couple of glasses) then ice cream later. at that would be, um, ONE MEAL. bf and I were just talking about this.

the irony (or injustice or whatever) being that he stayed thin throughout all the eating changes, even when our meals were that much bigger he never gained or lost more than 3 lbs -- he's so active and exercises all the time.

Jeez is right!

I tracked mine one day and got to 3000 easy. No wonder I couldn't keep the weight from creeping up, despite the working out 4 to 5 times a week at some points!! :-O How do some people live like that?!

Yes, it is scary! It is no wonder I got so big, I am sure that I ate 5000 calories many days. Ignorance is not bliss!

Whoa, it never occurred to me to do this. I got up to over 4000 calories for one day that I know that I had eaten about a million times. God. No wonder I would gain weight back immediately.

Okay. That made me literally laugh out loud. Probably because I can relate to it totally and completely. My husband and I would polish off a 1 lb box of pasta (with lots of "other" stuff in it) at one sitting.

I never calculated my "former" calories, though I've thought how high they must have been. There were days that for sure, for sure I easily consumed over 5000 calories. And they were frequent. It wasn't a once in a while thing. And I'm sure there were many days where I had waaaay MORE then 5000. Calculating it now would be too difficult. I can't even remember all that I ate.

I was one of those that KNEW why she was too heavy. I never wondered. I knew it wasn't my thyroid. Or a "slow" metabolism. Or that I didn't exercise enough (though I certainly didn't). No, I knew it was the high quantity/high calorie foods I was eating on a regular basis. I knew. Didn't stop me, but I knew.

For dinner this evening I cooked a dish with half a cup of rice, half the pack of pork, a small bag of veggies and half a jar of sauce (sodium central arrgh). And I still couldn't finish it (but I did a sterling job trying).

Two months ago I'd have tossed in at least two cups of rice, all the meat and all the sauce - and thus eaten about twice as much as I did today. It boggles the mind and makes me shudder. What have we been doing to ourselves? Thank God we're not doing it anymore!!

It's also truly shocking that what you "thought" was a tablespoon is actually closer to 2 tablespoons...

At least it was to me.
