What would my doctor say?
Last night as I was checking out of the grocery store, I ran into my doctor. Now, he would never comment on what I was placing on the conveyer belt, but it got me thinking. My grocery cart was filled, at least 50% of the bulk was from fresh produce and vegetables. There was very little processed food, with the exception of soup mix (I'm too lazy to make from scratch so choose one fairly low in sodium and spruce it up with extra veggies), high fiber cereal, and a few other staples that I need to get through the times when I will not have time to cook. The only things in my grocery cart I was remotely ashamed of was the Diet Coke (I know I shouldn't, but it's one thing I haven't been able to give up, and I still make sure to get in my water!) and sugarfree fudgebars to get through the sweet cravings.
Now had this been 7 months ago, it would have been a vastly different story! First of all, I probably wouldn't have been seen in a grocery store since the majority of my food was hand delivered through the window of my car. But if I did grocery shop, it would involve no cooking more complex than hitting the numbers on the microwave.
So I've decided, from now on, I grocery shop with the thought of how will I feel if I get to the checkout and my doctor is in front of me. Works as motivation!
