Question I can't find mayo without sugar!

My friend said "ooh, get Duke's It's sugar-free and tastes great." Okay, but the three grocery stores in my town won't even order it! One manager said they have limited space and only carry the "big" brands. Another guy said they only have it in the South. Grrrrrrrr.

I guess I just don't understand why all the mayo I can find has sugar (and they try to trick ya with the high fructose corn syrup). The closest I could find was an Olive Oil type that had less than one gram of carbs. It did have sugar on the ingredient label but it was way far down.

So, my question is - should I just use the best I can get & go from there. I have the new "super-charged" book and the smaller grocery-list type book but I can't find this matter addressed. I know that Phase I is allowed to have salad dressing w/less than 3g carbs. Should I just use that guideline w/mayo? I'm using the mayo for chicken & tuna salad.

Any advice, opinions or hints greatly appreciated!

I'm not doing SB, but I use Spectrum Light Canola Mayo. I use it because it is eggless and I'm monitoring my cholesterol intake, but it doesn't contain any sugars either. They also make other mayos that also don't contain any sugars. I purchase the spectrum mayo at my local co-op.

make it yourself. it's actually stunningly easy.

Mayonnaise is simply an emulsion of oil and egg yolks, with a little acidity and salt added to brighten the flavors.

To make 1 cup of mayonnaise you will need:

1 cup of light olive oil (less strongly flavored than standard olive oil) or other good-quality oil, like walnut or sweet almond oil
1 egg
Juice of 1 lemon, or vinegar
A pinch of salt (and pepper, if desired)
Water to thin the mayonnaise

Any mayo with less than 3 grams of sugar is allowed on SBD. Don't worry about the carb count. We don't count them on SBD.

Hellman's (Best Foods west of the Rockies) and Kraft are both fine.
