We are about Fitness and Quality of Life after 50...
We are about Fun and Friendship after 50... We are the Golden Girls...
There is Value in us There is Power in us There is Wisdom in us And Laughter.... We are a rainbow of unique wonders, There is love in us. (poem by Dorothy Holmes)
Tell us a little about your life, family and goals. What keeps you motivated? What is the best thing that's happened to you since you passed the 50 mark? Friends laugh, cry and stand by each other, we'll be that to you!
Happy May Day! How many of you made and delivered May baskets in your youth? I had more fun decorating the baskets than eating the sweets. My grandson is miserable, his chin is twice the size it should be from all the swelling and he's running a fever. He is 17 and wishes he had never had the surgery. But he really didn't have a choice with his bad over bite. We off to see him again later today. Lynn...Thanks for the accountability thread last month, it's just what I needed to take off AGAIN those 6 pounds. It's raining here but the grass is such a beautiful green color, I'll take the rain. I'm planning on making Isabella cake this afternoon if we get back early enough from visiting my grandson. Have a great May day.
I never made baskets on May day (just on Easter). However, I do remember dancing around a May pole. The nuns used to attach streamers to the top of a pole & we would weave in and out around the pole so that the streamers would form a weave around the pole.
Rainy here - going out to dinner with my DD & SIL this evening - practicing my "self talk" to keep from eating the wrong stuff.
ABOUT DRINKING WATERThe following will probably amaze
and startle you.
One glass of water shuts down midnight
hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters
studied in a University study.
Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
Preliminary research indicates that 8-10
glasses of water a day could significantly ease back
and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
A mere 2% drop in body watercan trigger
fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic
math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen.
Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the
risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the
risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50%
less likely to develop bladder cancer.
Are you drinking the amount of water you should
every day?
(No kidding, all of the above is true...) Of course, too much water may have strange
side effects.
The picture that went with this email won't come thru on 3FC but I can tell you about it. It's a lady in her kitchen drinking a bottle of water and she has boobs the size of basketballs, no kidding.
I can't image anyone having implants the size of basket ball, stupid!
Now that I have your attention, go get
another glass of water!
--BUT BE VERY CAREFUL.
Laugh often, long and loud.
Laugh until you gasp for breath. And if you have a friend who makes you laugh,
Hello gals. It's a gorgeous sunny day here but not real warm. I did go grocery shopping this morning and wore a sweater set under a cotton jacket and that was warm enough ducking in and out of the stores.
I finally bought groceries yesterday and today after over 2 weeks of abstaining from buying (but not eating, ) I took mom and wheeled her around all day long. She had a great day. I was too tired to get on my bike after we got home so I'm hoping all that pushing will count towards some kind of exercise.
I bought some of the sweetest Clementines I've ever eaten. They were so good I ate 3 in one sitting. I know they are only a toothful any given time so 3 is not so bad.
I'm trying to get a few things cooked before 1 pm as the power is going off for an hour, but it could be longer. The schools are dismissing early because of said power outage so DH won't be home for his regular dinner hour. He'll be at least an hour or hour and a half later. Must run. BIL is also coming over to register his car online before power goes out.
Bobbi - I remember putting May baskets together as a kid and deliverying them to a few select neighbors. So fun!
We went to our granddaughter's play last night. She did a fabulous job. Hubby and I stopped at Culver's for ice cream. I really need to get off the Culver's ice cream! I cannot exercise it off. Way too many calories.

Hi Isabella,
Ditto about the clementines. Mine were from CA! Usually, they are from Spain. Tasted like candy.
Was a nice sunny day here, but humid. Off from work a couple days ~ yippee. Spent the day catching up with friends via e-mail, and a sewing project. This evening, baby sat Maddie. I took her for a walk in her stroller. She was singing as we walked ~ her little baby voice ~ I didn't know what the words were (she is 19 months) but I enjoyed it. We went for about 1/2 hour. She was asleep by the time we got home.
Bobbi ~ hope your grandson is feeling better.
Susannp ~ sorry to hear of your troubles. {{{{{{{Hugs for you}}}}}}
Getting sleepy, I will have to post more another time.
I'm off to NYC this morning. Meeting my sister. We're going to a play tonight - 9 to 5 - and staying over. Hopefully it will not rain too much tomorrow & we'll hand out in the city.
Good Morning Girls! What's everyone doing this morning for fun? I'm back to counting calories after a weekend of a few pieces of unhealthy food. (If you want to call that fun.........NOT.) I'm going out to my grandmother's grave to plant flowers today and maybe catch up on my ironing. I was so relieved when DH retired, no more ironing dress shirts. I only bring out my ironing board once a month now and still find it tedious. All my tulips are flowering and so beautiful, too bad they don't hang around awhile. Do any of you plant Dahlia bulbs? Not you sunshine climate gals but anyone who has to dig bulbs out in the fall so they don't freeze. My DH found some bulbs I dug out the fall of 2007 and forgot to plant last year. I don't know if I should waste my time and plant them or toss them. I'm dressed, finished my exercise and now someone needs to push me off this cp chair and do something, you all have a great day!
Tulips - how pretty! I am just starting to dig around in my garden. It's in bad shape. I did some work on Saturday instead of walking as my legs are very sore.
Hubby bought a banana cream pie and served me a piece. I ate 90% of it. Bad girl! I know I cannot exercise that amount of calories off. I need to develop a plan for such instances.
