Foriegn Films. I have grown to really like them. How do you guys feel about them?
Please reccomend some good ones.
I like La Bella Vida, The Kite Runner, Pans Labyrith.
Ooo I absolutely love Pan's Labyrinth. It's definitely my favorite foreign language film for sure.
I know I've seen more good foreign movies... but I can only remember a couple. Das Boot is one. You kinda have to like war drama to find it interesting though. I remember liking a french film called 8 femmes when I saw it too. Though now I'm having a hard time remembering the exact plot of that movie lol! I saw it so long ago... anyway I liked it then haha.
If you'd like Guillermo del Toro (Pans Labyrinth) I'll suggest:

A also recommend "Turtles Can Fly" is a very moving story and the performances of a very young cast is amazing (some of them actually lived in the refugee camps along the Irak-Turkish border).
I love "Amelie" and Audrey Tautou is also in "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not" and I love how she plays a totally opposite character.
I saw Volver recently... I liked it, it deals with some really weird and/or dark subjects without being depressing or creepy. There were even some funny parts. It's sort of a "chick flick."
I like foreign films. The last I saw was a French film with English subtitles--it was based on a book by one of my favorite authors (Harlen Coben)--I don't remember the title. Slumdog Millionaire was really good as well and I enjoyed Pans Labyrinth. I'm sure I could come up with a lot more titles. And Life is Beautiful--oh, how I cried.
When I was in college, a friend and I went to see a foreign film, and frankly I've been searching to find it again to no avail. All I remember it was English subtitled, may have been Dutch, and it was about a woman with two husbands and two families. How she managed it was the plot of the movie. It was hilarious! The one thing that I remember pointedly is that each husband had a favorite sweatshirt--one with an exclamation point on it and the other with a question mark on it. If anyone recognizes this, please let me know!
My tastes run to older foreign films, and here are some that in my opinion are must-sees:
Run Lola Run! German! Amazing soundtrack!
La Cage Aux Folles! French! The Original "Birdcage" but 100x better! Oldie but goodie!
Trainspotting! Scottish! Again, an oldie, but a great film!
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert! Australian! Hilarious!
Mad Max! Australian! Get the non-dubbed version and the non-subtitled version!
Monsiuer Hulot's Holiday! French! A classic!
Any film from the golden era of British filmmaking (see Ealing Studios) -- generally post WW2 to around mid-1960s(The Lavender Hill Mob! I'm All Right, Jack! Alfie! Georgy Girl! Dr. No!)
Anything from the golden age of Italian film (Marcello Mastroianni, Fellini although I never understood Fellini...)

Infernal Affairs (Hong Kong) -- This is the movie that The Departed was a remake of, and I think it was better.
anything directed by Wong Kar-wai, especially In the Mood for Love
anything directed by Kim Ki-duk, especially 3-Iron
anything directed by Pedro Almodovar, especially Talk to Her Amores Perros Y Tu Mama Tambien

my favorite is Amelie...its a cute sweet and funny film.
by the same director is Delicatessen - it's a bit darker but a brilliant film!!
All movies I see here are *technically* foreign because I don't go to see Dutch films!
My favourite director is Pedro Almodovar -Antonio Banderas actually started his career prior to Hollywood with Almodovar in ¡Átame! and maybe someone's seen or heard of the film Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown? but his more recent films are Todo Sobre mi Madre and Hable con Ella, maybe someone has heard of these?
I love the original film starring Penelope Cruz called Abre los ojos; you may remember a movie called Vanilla Sky, with Penelope and Tom? It was a sort of remake of the first film.
I was into Czech movies for a while even, and have a few box sets of some favourites, though I can't for the life of me tell you the names!
One of my most favourite movies ever was My Sky, My home - an indonesian film about the vast difference between the rich and poor in Jakarta and how that difference meant nothing at all to two boys and their friendship. Amazingly moving film.
