Default Cereal Killer...

Ok so I love cereal...LOVE TO EAT IT...but is it ok for SBD Phase 1 or 2?? I actually loooooove Special K V Vanilla Almond and Cinnamon Pecan.... and I'm trying Kashi GoLean and may look at Fiber One...are these ok? I'm using 1% or 2% milk and may make the leap to soy milk soon...If these are acceptable in the diet, I'll be on cloud nine!

Uncle Sam, Kashi Go Lean and Fiber One are okay, but not Kashi Go Lean Crunch. I used to loooove cereal for breakfast too, but I did find over the last couple of years that it's not a great breakfast for me, it just doesn't stick with me enough. I prefer a protein heavy breakfast, usually dinner leftovers, or I will have oatmeal or another hot whole grain cereal on occasion with peanut butter stirred in or with a hard-boiled egg. I have discovered this is one of the most important things for keeping me on plan.

Cereal makes me hungry and bingey You can do the Kashi golean as a hot cereal similar to what you'd do with Grapenuts

so Kashi GOlean Crunch is a no...I think that's what's in the ol' cupboard...I don't like eating breakfast...soooo cereal is quickest and easiest...lol. I actually could eat cereal at any point in the day. And i totally get the whole "bingey" aspect...in my more shameful days i could eat like 2 or 3 bowls in a row...

I've done this without Lyrica. It actually didn't taste too bad!

The only way I used to eat oatmeal was cold with skim milk... kinda like granola but definitely not! LOL..... actually before a couple months ago I never ate it hot!

I second Cat. The Ezekiel cereals are really great, I'm partial to almond.

The Right Weigh, did you read the book? I'm concerned that you would think cereal's okay in Phase 1--it's totally counter to what you learn in the book.

You can have cereal in Phase 2, as the chicks have shared. Do your best to get down to 1% or skim with it (or soy milk with NO ADDED SUGAR, if you like)--they have less of the bad fats and more calcium, to boot. When looking at cereal, make sure that it has a decent amount of fiber and has either no added sugar (you have to look at the ingredients and be aware of the millions of names sugar goes by) or very little. Some options:
If you want the type of fruit in it that you can find in boxed cereals, try adding Crunchies or "Just ____" freeze-dried fruit (no sugar is added) to your cereal.

You'll want to be careful with serving size and watch to see how it affects you. Some, as they've noted in this thread, are unable to eat it for breakfast. You'll only know what works for you by trying.
