Excuses
What's your excuse for not eating right? Not exercising?
Let's not make this thread about giving advice (unless you want it, then ask for it)--let's just admit some of the excuses for not sticking to our weight loss plans. Some are probably good and valid excuses and some are just things we came up with to avoid the work and effort weight loss requires.
Here's mine:
1. I share a one-room studio with my boyfriend. I can exercise with him in the room, but I hate it. We work the same hours so I'm never home alone.
2. I live about a mile from a walking path. I have to walk through a congested part of the city to get there and that thwarts me from going. Plus the 40-50 minutes of roundtrip walking to/from the path is like a full amount of exercise and the walk is not enjoyable.
3. I don't care for Korean food and I can only buy a fraction of the healthy foods I enjoyed in America.
4. My job makes it impossible to snack so I'm tired and starving when I get home after work.
Most of my excuses are related to my job and living situation and that will change at the end of summer. In the meantime I am doing what I can to eat right and exercise, though I admit if the above circumstances were changed, I would like to think this process would be so much easier... but then again, who knows what new roadblocks would pop up.
How about you?

I love chocolate
I love candy
I hate veggies
I could cook with potatoes every day of the week
I have 5 kids
I don't hate exercise, but I'm too lazy to do it
I don't have nice shorts to wear to the gym
I'm overwhelmed when I do get to the gym, and confused by all the equipment
Did I mention I have 5 kids?

1. I don't have time to work out.
2. I'm tired from school and other things I deserve to sit in front of the tv.
3. Food makes me happy, junk food more so.
4. Other people weigh more than me so I don't need to lose any weight.
5. It takes too much effort, and I'll never be able to maintain, so why try?
Ha! I just realised how stupid these are lol.

I'm going to do this, with an extra challenge...listing what, if anything, I can do to overcome that excuse.
Biggest excuse #1: I am depressed and/or don't feel good (like today, I have a cold/sore throat/general ickiness) and I deserve a treat (ice cream bar/bottle of juice/many many popsicles)
BUT...eating unhealthy foods makes me feel WORSE, not better, so I'll buy myself some sugar free popsicles with only 15 calories so I can have a little something without going off plan.
Biggest Excuse #2: I exercise SO MUCH during the week that I shouldn't have to restrict like this - I deserve to eat more!
BUT...my body gains weight on more calories, even with this exercise level. Period! So I'll work on making super-satisfying meals to get me through this rough patch that fit into a lower calorie range.
Biggest Excuse #3: I didn't get enough sleep last night and I'm too tired to work out.
BUT...the most important factor in overcoming my insomnia has been exercise! Skipping a workout today is only going to make the problem worse. I'll do half an hour, and if I still want to stop when I'm done with that, I can, but I know that MOST times, that's enough to get me going.
Biggest Excuse #4: I don't have time today to exercise or eat healthfully.
BUT...I have healthy meal "standbys" at all times, including a salad bar less than a third of a mile away where I can get a healthy, on plan meal in less than 5 minutes. And no matter how busy the day is, I can still fit in a couple 15 minute bursts of cardio...It's non-negotiable.

1) My boobs put strain on my back, even with a good bra.
2) Same reason as #1, I live in a one bedroom with my husband and I'm never home alone.
3) He doesn't understand, nore does he give me the privacy in the living room to do my work out dvd.
4) He insists on being in the room.
5) I worked out yesterday.
6) So today I messed up, tomorrow I can get back to it.
7) (Next day) Today I messed up, so I can get back to it...tomorrow.
8) Corn dogs! Okay, I'll have 4. (My obsession with eating)
9) I'm too tired. I work and go to school.
10) Oh I'll do it later.....(later comes). Yeah, I'll do it tomorrow.
-------
You're right. That DOES feel good.

1. I really love Diet Dr. Pepper! It's my trigger to start eating sweets! (That commercial that compares it to candy is spot on!)
2. I'm tired OR I have something better to do OR I just want to relax OR This is not fun! These excuses for not exercising are definitely "excuses"!
3. I love sweets and I deserve to eat as much as I want! I deserve to eat unhealthily?
4. I love comfort food and I deserve to eat as much as I want! I deserve to get fat?
5. Just this little bit won't hurt. Fine, but not if I do it with every other thing I put in my mouth--it all adds up!
6. I shouldn't have to be thin. True, but I should be healthy and my weight is in no way healthy!

1. I really, really like the sensation of being full.
2. It may only take 20 minutes to exercise, but it's double that to take the shower and get looking presentable again - I don't have that kind of time.
3. It's a waste of gas to drive 8 miles to the pool and back
4. and the most twisted, baffling one of all: I'll take time for myself when everyone else is taken care of. Yeah right - like they haven't figured it out in the past?

1. I'm stressed out enough without having to worry about what I eat
2. I deserve a treat
3. Tomorrow is another day (so why not eat bad today?)
4. Too busy to exercise
5. Don't like to do work out DVDs in the living room 'cause there's always someone in it
6. Even if I do have time to work out...do I have enough time to shower afterward? Is there enough time to stretch? Is it even worth doing such a small amount of cardio after weights blah blah blah I'm full of 'em!
good thread

I really have no time. WHEN am I supposed to exercise when I ALREADY get up at 5am every day?
I'm exhausted. See above.
I resent that *I* have to watch and plan and track and not have any fun. Screw it I'm going out for chicken mushroom pie and several pints of beer with my colleagues.
But I *never* get to have German Chocolate Cake!
Journaling is boring.
I despise workout videos. My living room is also WAY too small to be jumping around it. Moving the furniture (and finding a place for it) is already enough exercise. Lame.

1. I can only stand up for 10 to 15 minutes at a time because I am so heavy.
2. My back hurts (from all the weight in the front)
3. I weigh over 400 lbs so I will never get to goal and I might as well give up now.
4. I like junk food better (even though it makes me feel sick).
5. Exercising hurts because I am so heavy.
6. I get out of breath easily (because I am so heavy).
7. Nice exercise clothes don't fit me.

I can't do exercise videos. (I live in an apartment above other people.)
I was at school/work for 14 hours. (Maybe more a reason than excuse.)
I've been away from my husband all day, I don't want to go out running and abandon him some more.
<Insert crappy snack food here> was on sale and we're super poor!
I only eat <cookies/pizza/beer/cake> at special school events! (There are 1-3 "special" events a week here!)
