Question What kind of numbers do you get from your HRM?

I got a Polar HRM for Christmas and have been wearing it every time I exercise. It told me I burned 3900 calories last week, and 1200 for my three exercise sessions in the last two days. I'm wondering if that seems a little high? I have a pretty high heart rate, and get up to 190-200 on the high points of HIIT. I don't know how the formula works for calories burned, but could it be overinflating them? What kind of numbers do other HRM wearers get?

Just so you know what I did the last three session - 60 minutes of cardio yoga + 5 minutes of ab work = 302 cals, 5 mile run (1.5 mile steady, 3.5 sprint intervals) in 75 minutes = 752 cals, 71 minutes of strength training = 310 calories.

Thanks for any input! I'm not overly worried, as I can see a difference in my clothes and the way that they fit, just curios to see what other people are finding. Still working on figuring out my maintenance calorie range, too...

This seems really high to me.

For intense cardio (which, for me, is a heart rate of 155-170, which is high for -me- because I am pretty low most of the time (in the 60's or low 70's)) I burn about 100-120 calories every 10 minutes, per my heart rate monitor (or 600-720 an hour). Of course, my monitor might be high, too, but that's where I sit most of the time.

That actually sounds right to me. When I run, my heart rate can get into the 190s and hit 200 sometimes. I am just out of shape, haha. But I will burn around 400 calories in 30 minutes, so it seems reasonable to me. It's basing it off of your heart rate, weight, age, height and gender so it's more accurate than the machines or even some online calculators.

it might be right. i was burning a ton of calories before because my heart rate was generally in the 170s and 180s when i was running until my friend (who is a personal trainer) told me that i needed to slow it waaaay down to 145 because i wasn't increasing my overall fitness level at that rate. so now i'm going slow slow, don't burn nearly as many calories, but am hopefully getting in better shape as i go.

My garmin heart rate monitor generally says at rest about 65, walking about 100 and for my extended running periods about 170, 180 if going uphill

I have a pretty basic Polar HRM which doesn't record calories burned (my partner has one of those and I er...wore it out lol so now I am back to basics!)

my resting heart rate is about 51-52

On my last run which was 8kms (or 5 miles) I was out for 37 minutes and had an average of 168 - with a high point of 184 (was so proud - I maintained my speed for over 3kms with my heart rate consistently over 180 - which is just on my anaerobic threshhold).

During a spin class my HR is a lot lower (even if it FEELS harder than running!). My average last night was only 154 with a high of 172.

Before I broke my partners HRM I was recording about 550 cals burnt over a 5 mile run in 40 minutes.

One run I burnt over 1200 cals so your figures are very possible
