Sorry, I don't have a good recipe.

I went through this phase of making hot chocolate with chocolate flavoured IsoWhey protein powder. It probably works well with water, actually. But you're probably not keen on protein powder hot chocolates

You don't want the brand swiss miss, or you don't want powdered hot cocoa at all?

I use powdered cocoa, with hot water, but I cant think of any way to make it without some kind of milk or powder base. I think just water and chocolate syrup might be a bit gross.

I'm interested to see if anyone will have any ideas.

Here's what I do:

Hershey's Cocoa--Natural Unsweetened (in the baking aisle)
2 TBS
1 cup 1% milk OR just water.

Put the cocoa in a cup. Heat the water separately in a different cup in the microwave on high for 1 to 1:30 min. Pour the hot water slowly into the cocoa, stirring and breaking up the cocoa powder until smooth.

Add from a few drops up to 1/4 tsp vanilla extract.
Add from 1 heaping tsp to a TBS of Coffee Mate Lite.

If you want sweet, you can add some Splenda or Sweet'n'Low or Nutrisweet or whatever, but I like to add 1 tsp of maple syrup. or, you could use a tsp of honey.

About 70 cals. total.

I use a Trader Joe's brand. Still a mix, but a much better for you type of mix than the ones yuo are trying to avoid.

I use sugar free Nestles Quik in a little bit of skim milk that's diluted about 1:2 with water. I don't see why you couldn't use it in straight water?
