Yay for Phase 1, even my "fake" attempt!
WARNING: RAMBLING AND/OR VERBOSITY MAY OCCUR
OK, so last week, before I decided to go on SB again (sis visited this weekend and re-convinced me to re-start, esp since I am now diabetic ), I bought a TON of fruit. Like, seriously, 10 pounds of different things, all were on sale (oranges, apples, grapes, tangelos, etc.). I love fruit, can you tell? Anyways, I wanted to just donate it, but the food bank I called said they can't store perishables. SIGH. I tried. Can't give it to family, as they are all on P1 too, LOL. And my coworkers? They wouldn't even eat the huge platters of cookies I made for XMas before they got stale....they are just not big eaters (just nibble on junk all day)....so, my point is.., LOL
I've been doing a "ramp-up" to P1, following it except for using up my full-fat cheddar I have a few bags left of, and eating 2 pcs. of fruit per day (making hubby scarf the rest, as he wants to start P1 for real w/me next wk). No "carbs" whatsoever (no bread, rice, pasta, and the crescent rolls and canned biscuits REALLY had to go, LMAO)....and after just 2 days, I've been able to reduce my diabetes medication, and my blood sugar is GREAT! I'm also down 2 lbs of the SEVEN I gained since Christmas (bad, bad diabetty!)
Even a half-@ssed attempt at Phase 1 does wonders. I can hardly wait until next week when I start hardcore!
THANKS TO DR. A AND THIS BOARD!

Hi and welcome to this board! Yes, you will notice a change when you cut out everything.. and fruit isn't a bad "sin"... you are allowed your fruit on P2! Good luck!

Good going, Halloweengirl, even for a fake start!
Some of that fruit should be able to keep a couple weeks until you get to Phase 2, when you can "legally" enjoy a piece each day. Or you could make SF applesauce or make an SBD-friendly apple crisp to freeze for now.
Good luck, and I hope you have a successful REAL Phase 1!

Halloweengirl! I started my SBD journey the same way. I wasn't sure I was going to commit to the whole plan and just wanted to try some ideas. Also, it was apple season and no way I was giving up eating apples while processing bushels to dry for the winter. Just like you I had some success right away and then decided to do it 100%. That fruit will taste great after you finish Phase 1!

Thanks ladies, the fruit's almost gone, LOL! But I'm still miffed about the food bank not being able to take fruit....that's sad, I mean, the needy require healthy foods too.

That is really strange because the food bank near me takes perisables but they have fridges and freezers too. Does the one you went to have that? That could be why they declined.

Hey CanadianWoman, maybe they don't, but I might call another one or go back to them to take all the rest of the NON-perishable groceries (canned soups not SB friendly, cake mixes, sugary salad dressings, etc.). I was so sad!

The *actual* expression is p*i*s*s*e*d in your cornflakes but I didn't think the censors would let me get that one passed them.

I haven't eaten that crap in YEARS.
I plan to start off with a small sweet potato (or some other starchy veggie) when I start P2.

LOL, gotcha. I'm going right into fruit (will try to stick to low GI ones). I LOVE, LOVE fruit. I love starches, but I'd rather have fruit And the occasion wheat-crust pizza, LOL

I have a bag of grapefruit from my mom's tree waiting for me to finish ph1. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
I always heard the saying as 'pi$$ing in your Cheerios'.

I have never heard either of those expressions! I'll add them to the repertoire.
I am a huge believer in SB diet for diabetics. Although my DH does not need to lose any weight, I am the cook, so he eats SB along with me. He doesn't mind - he loves his veggies. It's the best thing that's every happened to his blood sugar levels.
