Smile Deep Dish Pizza

Ok, remember I made this up on my own, so you may want to tweak it a little to suit your own tastes.

Preheat oven to 350*, and spray a 10" pie plate with Pam.
Mix together-
1lb xlean ground turkeybreast or ground beef
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. basil
1/4 cup shredded parmesan
Pat into bottom and up sides of pie plate. Bake about 20 minutes.
In medium bowl mix together-
1 cup ricotta
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
1/2 cup jarred spagetti sauce (I use Cento brand)
1-2 Tbsp. pesto
Spoon into the hamburger crust and top with chopped veggies of your choice. I used red peppers, mushrooms, onions and black olives. Sprinkle with a little mozzarella. Bake another 20-25 minutes til bubbly. Let cool about 10 minutes before serving. Mangia!

i made this last week and DH and I loved it. Definitely filling and very tasty. I love the fact that you can add whatever "toppings" you wish. Thanks!

I made this last week, and it was delicious! A few things I personally am going to try to do next time is maybe make it a little more red saucy and less ricotta... That or I might leave the ricotta out. Oh, Iloved it this way, with it in, but if I"m craving pizza, something in me wants that red sauce taste. Maybe it's because I didn't have the Pesto????????

Default a question

I assume you have to brown the beef first?

I bake the meat shell first, before adding the fillings, then bake again.

thanks!
I figured that would be ok but didn't want to make a mistake! (I've ruined recipes before by doing stuff like that and I cant afford to waste the food!)

So it's raw, and you press it into the pie pan then bake it? Just clarifying, I was thinking to myself at first that it was cooked but realized it would be so much easier to make the 'shell' when the meat is raw.

This recipe sounds like something my BF would go really crazy for... god it sounds good. I'm making this sometime soon! Very creative too.

EGADS!

I misread and put the veggies IN the meat then made the crust Oh well. We'll see how it turns out!
