if we participate we give out candy. the last few years we haven't done anything though because we there were not enough kids in the neighborhood and we'd wind up eating all the candy.
This year we're giving out York Peppermint Patties (and also have an even number of boxes of temporary tattoos for kosher/vegan kids, and also as a small bid against promoting childhood obesity.)
I am giving out tootsie rolls, smarties, tootsie pops, dots and snack size packs of teddy grahams and oreos. If I run out of that I may raid my 100cal pack stash that has been sitting there for awhile and give out some of those.
I actually feel a little guilty about handing out candy but as I said to my husband "they aren't my kids". Of course maybe that is the wrong attitude to have. I'm handing out candy that is vegan though.
Aw... there's not a "nothing" choice. Well, when we had our ONE tick-or-treater TWO YEARS ago, we did candy. Last year we decided that one person wasn't worth it. No one came anyways. I'm expecting the same turn out this year.
My DS decided not to go out this year (he's in 8th grade--getting a bit old, we both agree), but he likes his candy (and is such a skinny minnie that he could use the extra calories). I rarely get more than a handful of kids (if any) so I bought some of DS's favorite candy to hand out. Butterfinger, Snickers, Reeses cups--and not the fun size, either. I got a 10 pack of each of these in the normal (not king) sizes. DS is a good kid--he'll ration them out to less than 3 a week. Man, if I were a kid, I'd have 3 a day (or more). Guess that's why he's the skinny one and not me!
We live in an area with a lot of kids but we can get anywhere from 0-50...we just never know. We decorate and sit out with the dogs to hand out candy. Yesterday I went to Target and got an 85 piece M&M ~ 63 piece Hot Tamales and Mike & Ike and a 90 piece Starburst and Skittle....the kids that come my way will get plenty....
You must have been the DINKUS handing out the damned Orange Flavored Vitamin C]!!!!! Yeah, Ya didn't fool nobody!!!! You just got what you deserved!!!!!!
My dentist and hygienist each told me this week that one year they gave out candy and toothbrushes
This is the first year that I have not bought any candy.
I don't have any trick or treaters anyway, but I ususally get something for my kids. I'm making cupcakes with halloween sprinkles though
Know what, those people who hand out toothbrushes and floss and all those other "good for you" things
My mother was a dentist. She gave out toothbrushes.
BUT.
She also gave out mini-snickers bars and mini-3 musketeers bars. She said that any house that gave out toothbrushes had to pony up with the GOOD STUFF as well.
