Default Sick Foods

So, I'm really sick, I think I only ate around 800 calories today. I can't really chew anything becasue my teeth are KILLING ME! Does this happen to anyone? Plus, my throat hurts, so that limits my food, and I can only eat really mild room temperature foods that won't upset my stomach.

Agh. basically, oatmeal and tea is what I've had today. And yogurt. Any one have any food suggestions? I tried to eat an apple but it hurt my teeth. I need some fruits and veggies.... ah.

Applesauce.
Mashed sweet potatoes.
Soup.
Bananas.
Do you have a juicer? You can juice some fruits and veggies.

And Icees/slurpees feel awesome if your throat hurts; the cold feels really good.

mix orange Emergen-C with 7-UP. You will be CURED. Also, broth based soups are my saving grace.

But mostly the 7-UP and Emergen-C. Not Sprite, not Sierra Mist, 7-UP

Feel better!

YES. But I say that anyway because slurpees and icees are my favorite treat ever You can get a Crystal Lite slurpee if you are watching calories.

Hey, you're sick. Eat whatever you can. Don't worry too much about fruits and veggies if they're just not working. But the bananas and mashed sweet potatoes sound like good ideas. Maybe try some avocado on your toast. Or hummus.

Default Awwww...

My aunt used to make homemade food processor sorbet for me and my mom when she was going through chemo and I donated blood and bone marrow to her pretty often (go being two of like 100 people that are AB+) so every two weeks we would both be laying around feeling like crap together, albeit she had the infinitely worse draw. My aunt would take frozen fruit (usually fruit she had cut up herself and frozen because she bought everything in bulk) and orange juice and hit in it a food processer until it was blended and serve some to us in a bowl. The rest she would put away in the freezer to keep it firm until we wanted some more. It takes seriously 2 minutes to make if you buy a 1lb bag of frozen berries instead of cutting up your own.

It's actually really healthy and it tastes good, plus you can get your fruits in. Have someone get you some Ensure or the generic ones. They sell them in cases at Walmart. They're meal replacements -- crappy ones, but at least it's something.

My psycho witch doctor grandma (i'm serious, she's a voodoo priestess and an accomplished herbal alchemist) has a cure for severe colds and flu that requires drinking a shot of hot, DARK (as dark as you can find it. The stuff she distills/ages herself in the spare off limits bathroom looks like tar) 100 or higher proof bourbon with cayenne pepper. It is to be immediately followed by sucking on a lemon wedge, and exactly ten minutes later should be followed by a cup of hot mint tea, steeped from fresh mint only. The shot opens up the lungs, the cayenne kills bacteria in the throat, and the mint oil brought out by the hot tea cures nausea and will give you back your appetite.

Try it out. It's nasty, but it works like a charm.

I'm sorry you're sick and I hope you feel better!

P.S. -- Since the law about sending toxic substance through the mail will hinder your ability to get ahold of the medicinal whiskey my Maman makes, your best bet if you decide to try the remedy is Noah's Mill. That's what I use as a stand-in. It's 115 proof, it will knock you flat on your butt, and it's about $30 a bottle. Just think of it as an investment for sick days, mmkay?

I just came down with a cold, yesterday...so I feel your pain. For me it's oatmeal and tea in the morning, chicken noodle soup for lunch and dinner and sucking on 80 calorie Edy's Lemon Fruit Bars to soothe my throat. One of the biggest things I've learned in getting colds is that if you totally eliminate your dairy you will get better faster! Dairy feeds your mucus.

When I'm sick I don't track my calories, I just get in what I can. Typically that means soup and a lot of orange juice or red grapefruit juice. Just make sure you gets lots of rest and fluids. Don't stress over calorie counts.

Garstar...you might have a sinus infection or something to do with your sinuses. I know that whenever I have sinus issues, my teeth always KILL!!! They were bothering me earlier this week actually and I had trouble eating anything that wasn't jello or somewhat mushy in texture to begin with. I had a cold and felt awful earlier this week and once the teeth started acting up, I took some OTC sinus medicine and things have improved somewhat. I am still stuffy/runny nose, but my teeth don't hurt as much anymore.

Feel better!!!!
