I usually have an apple and some cheese in the afternoon and sometimes I'll drink a V8 on my way to the gym. Plenty of carbs for a workout, but not so heavy that it makes me feel bad.
Afterwards, I ALWAYS have a protein drink. On days that I lift, by the time I get home, I'm hungry enough to gnaw my own arm off!
So I come home and chug a basic protein drink (sometimes just milk and protein powder, sometimes OJ and protein powder).
