I don't think it so much helps with weight loss as eating carbs at night are mostly stored as fat, since you don't burn them off.
On another board that I'm on for bodybuilders and fitness models they tend to recommend low fat or fat free cottage cheese with a green apple. Even though a green apple has carbs it's higher on the GI list and the cottage cheese helps to make it burn slowly through the night so you don't get that insulin spike that we try to avoid when we are trying to lose weight.
