Default We surived a day without the car!

Hubby took the car yesterday, even though I said I had a lot of running around town to do. I decided to suck it up and get it done anyway. So, my oldest and I loaded the little two into the wagon and set off.

1.6 miles to the post office
1.0 miles to the school office
0.5 miles to the library
0.5 miles until we figured out the traffic was too heavy to cross a major highway and begged my mom to come give us a lift home
3.6 miles total

I'm burned, my back is sore (from pulling a wagon with 75 pounds worth of toddlers) and my feet hurt, but we did it!

The walk did me such good. All that extra water was flushed out, and the scale showed a small dip today. I think we may start taking [earlier] walks into town when we have errands to run. I may even disown the car when I need to go grocery shopping (the store is roughly a mile away), and just go more often to reduce the number of bags to be brought home.

AND MY CHILDREN SLEPT LIKE ANGELS!!!

It feels GREAT doesn't it? I have only used my car to take the dog to the vet since the end of May. But - and a big but - I'm not pulling a wagon with toddlers. You get WAY extra credit for that feat!!!!!

What a GREAT example you are setting for your kids.

Thats super.

When my bf takes the car to work I have to walk everywhere and I usually get about 3 or 4 miles in.

It's no big thing in London cause everyone walks, but being from LA it's quite an accomplishment as it took a while to get use to my non-car days.

Thanks, all! I was really sore yesterday, but today felt better. So we did it again. :P

This time we walked straight to the library - 2.5 miles. Hubby was with me, so I didn't have to pull the wagon the entire way. If I had, I would have died! We got in 5 miles in that trip.

Then oldest daughter and I realized we had no veggies besides potatoes for dinner. We (oldest and I) got into another 2.2 miles walking to the store and back.

And I remembered sunblock today, so I didn't get more burned. Weee!

It's amazing how oddly people regard you when you're on foot. I live in a very rural area that just recently (as in less than 2 weeks ago) got an actual grocery store. People drive EVERYWHERE and there are very few sidewalks. Someone walking down the side of a busy highway, while normal in Chicago, seemed very strange to people who drove by. A few people slowed down, as if they thought we needed help, until they saw the grocery bag slung over my shoulder.
