Default Thursday's Chatterings

Where is everyone this morning? Feeling as sleepy as me?

Playtime is over, time to get back to reality for me. The girls won't get home until late this afternoon, but I'm going to go over to the house around 10 to do some light dusting and vacuuming, and pick up some groceries I know they'll need. I can't wait to hear all about the adventures they had on their safari, but I expect they'll be pretty worn out from traveling, too.

The weather is supposed to be awful the next few days; hazy, hot and humid. I hope everyone is making sure they're drinking lots of water to prevent becoming dehydrated in this heat!

Good Morning, Cottage. I've been up for a little while. Sounds like you'll have a fun day. Stay cool in the hhh weather! Today will be a sunny day here, but hot as usual. I have no plans except to run a few errands in the am and then work on my book.

Have a great day, all!

Good morning, Cottage, and any other chickies wandering in. Sorry your "staycation" was so short, Cottage, but I'm sure your Girlies will have lots to tell you.

Good advice on the water drinking, Cottage. Farmer Art had to be taken to emergency yesterday with major cramping from dehydration - he just had to get the rest of the hay in! He's OK now and a bit smarter about drinking water. They actually suggested he eat chips or take salt tablets to make himself thirsty.

Yes, HHH here today too with the usual afternoon rain predicted. It sure is helping the weeds grow out in the veggie garden! I need to do another hour or so out there so I can find the rows. My Genovese basil is doing really well - I have enough to open an Italian restaurant specializing in pesto. I'll have a goodly supply to see me though the winter. (I freeze it in ice cube trays with just enough olive oil to make it stick together.)

This morning I sort out the produce for the Good Food Box and distribute it. Then Hersh and I go to the vet to see what's up with her fur loss on her tail and the two calluses on her elbows. I hope spending time in her wading pool isn't causing the problem because she sure does love her pool. She sat on the deck looking very worried when I cleaned it with the pressure washer on the weekend.

This afternoon is all mine! I plan to list the niggles that are buzzing around my head like gnats. My "I should"s take more time thinking about than doing. Putting them down on paper gets them out of my head and sometimes dealt with really quickly.

Hope your day is productive.

I need to take that advice to heart, Ruth! I lose many a night's sleep because of all the "I shoulds" running around in my mind. I hope Hershey gets a clean bill of health from the vet today, and that she can still enjoy wallowing in her pool.

Good morning, Bel Mer! What is your book about?

Morning all!!

Cottage, I know you can't wait to here about that trip. What an adventure they must have had!! I'm sleepy this morning too...stayed up too late watching some stupid show on "super rats".

Belle, hope you get a lot done on your book!! Every time I see your "name" I think about my Grandmother. When someone had a tummy ache she would call it "Mal de Mer" (sea sick)

Ruth, If the vet tries to get you to buy some kind of ointment or something that is a fortune, try that Nu-stock stuff first. I swear it has cured Stitch!! His hair has all grown back and he is "sore" free. One little scratch and we put a dab on him and that's the end of that. Wish I would have found it before we spent a couple of K on "fancy" creams, shots etc. grrrrr.

Me. Nothing much. Going to work out in a bit (started level 2 of Shred yesterday and I like it much better than level 1..not as much "jumping")
Then I have to run to the store and get some hair dye and kill the gray. Exiting day or what??? We are just going to relax around here today to store up energy for our busy weekend. May grill some tuna steaks or just eat leftovers if they boys didn't get to the leftovers last night.

Thanks for your nice comments about my screen name. I'm a huge fan of all things Mediterranean, especially the Provence region of France, and Sicily. I guess it's because part of my ancestry is from those areas. I've never been there, maybe someday!

Hope everyone has a good day.

Belle Mer, I've spent time in Provence (3 months) and also in Sicily - just a vacation. I loved it so much I think I must have some Mediterranean blood. You WILL get there someday soon - no maybe about it!

Cat, my vet is a real winner. If he can recommend something simple rather than prescription, he'll do it. Hersh isn't itchy at all. Um - what's Nu-stock?

Trash is out to the road for pick-up, my niggles are on paper and I'm off to pack the Good Food Boxes. We never know what's been bought from the wholesaler so it's sort of like getting a Christmas stocking. I'm hoping for local green beans today and some zucchini. Some of the older folks complain about romaine or leaf lettuce and want iceberg but we refuse to get it. They need to learn to eat healthier stuff. I know two of the older ladies give their romaine to Bob at the diner in exchange for toast and coffee - white toast with butter and loads of PB and jam and they are both diabetic! We'll persist though. This morning we have a Caesar salad for them to sample when they pick up their order and detailed recipes to hand out. Last time it was leaf lettuce and we handed out recipes for Wilted Lettuce Salad - food porn with lots of bacon and bacon fat!

The Doggage are settled in to sleep for a while. They are tired after all the company. I'm outta here in ten minutes.

Good morning Chickies,

Cottage- enjoy your day, I know you will be glad to see the girls again.

Belle Mer- enjoy your day and hope you have a productive day writing.

Ruth- yes you definitely can get dehydrated quickly in the heat thanks for reminding us to drink water.

Cat- Have a good day just hanging out and getting rid of grays (I refuse to color still just pluck the grays as I find them).

As for me- DH and 2 DD are not coming home until Friday night so it will be another quiet night tonight but I will be ready for them to come home. I am at work today so it will be busy.

Have a great day

Ruth, long story, but we discovered this stuff by accident at the local feed store. It's an ointment made of sulpher and pine oil. It smells awful till you get used to it, but has worked miracles on our little maltese. He's like a brand new dog and so happy now. He stayed drugged before and still itched. I felt so sorry for him and even at one point thinking about having him put down because he was so miserable. No quality of life at all. It works on all kinds of skin problems and regrows hair etc. And it's on around 13 dollars for a HUGE tube of it. He didn't have mange, but was allergic to just about everything. He still has the allergies, but no itching, scratching, raw sores etc.

Good morning all! Sorry to be MIA again. We have a set of hearings tomorrow morning (hopefully our last ones for the year) and I'm going a little crazy trying to get everything done.

Cottage: I'm sure you enjoyed your staycation, but I'm also sure you're excited to see those girls. You'll have to indulge us and give us some details about their trip!

Belle Mer: Have fun working on your book. I have to agree with everyone here; love your user name!

Ruth: I hope everything is fine with Hershey...let us know what goes on! I agree with Cottage and need to take your advice on the "shoulds". This weekend coming up is a free one besides a badminton tournament with DH and making a pasta salad for church, so I'll be getting niggles done left and right, hopefully.

Cat: I think DH and I may need to check into this for our Toby. (The yellow-lab mix). He tends to get really dry, flaky skin during our dry winter and itches constantly. Poor thing. Well, enjoy your "non-exciting" day. Sometimes those are the best!

Pearl: Enjoy your quiet night. I love DH and miss him when he's gone, but a week without him is sometimes nice. I get a lot done. Have a nice work-day!

Me: Nothing much here. Still fighting with the scale, but official W-I isn't until Sunday. I have to try and remember that I've started doing strength training again, so that may affect my results.

No big plans tonight. I'm still working on my grandmother's lapghan and I'm hoping to finish the body by tomorrow and do the border over the weekend. I'd like to get it to the cleaners by Monday morning. I think I'll mail it to her the following week if all goes well.

Work should be slower today. Just final prep for hearings tomorrow morning and some general paperwork. I also need to get online and find a pasta salad recipe. Being on SB for so long, I have no idea what to do! I've never made one! Anyone have a good recipe? Hmmm... think I'll start a special thread.

Well, off to finish getting ready for work. You ladies have a great day!

~Kim

Good morning! HHH! Nuff said!

Boy do I need to wash those grays out too! If I plucked them like pearl I would be bald! I am in dire need of a manicure too, almost embarassed at the shape of my nails, chipping polish, oh the horror! Yep I smell some me time coming on.

I have a tricky closing today, the file has been a nightmare from day one. Crossing my fingers that something finally goes right!

Went for a walk with DH lastnight, I swear he was trying to kill me. It was so flippin hot and humid out there but I refused let him know it was about to do me in. I of course survived and was one slimy creature when we got back to the house!

Gotta run, have a great day!

femme, I may have to try some of that stuff. My cocker has awful skin and he scratches a ton. But I hate paying for prescription stuff...hate going to the vet because somehow it ALWAYS costs $150!!

I am still very sleepy and I have a meeting from 8:30 to at least 10:30 today...worried I may be falling asleep in it. My guess is the little one is growing like crazy since I can't seem to be not tired lately! Thank heavens it is Thursday already and I can get some good sleep this weekend. We have no plans. Yahoo!!
