Default Harry Potter Fans - Is it worth it?

According to mugglenet, Scholastic is re-releasing Sorcerer's Stone on Sept. 23 with a new cover and some exclusive bonus material from J K Rowling.

Check it out.

Is it worth it? Would you pay $30? Or is it just Scholastic milking the cow?

Opinions?

Oh they're definitely milking this cow for all it's worth, that's for sure...

That being said, I think I'd try to find out what "bonus material" we're talking about here... running commentary? An extra paragraph at the end of the book?

Most likely if it's something easily readable I'd just read it at B&N. I won't be spending $30 for a new cover.

They're probably just trying to get more money since the series is over.

Yeah, I agree. I am still so sad that it's over though. I'd pay if they continued the series on. I heard they might do a series with Harry's kids--that I would pay for.

I won't buy it, but I'll get on the waiting list at the library the day it's released. Make my tax dollars work for me!

I wonder if this is going to be similiar (or the same) as a "collector's edition" of the book I accidently picked up a few years ago. It is bound in leather, with a fancy clear protective cover, and an ink drawing inside by JK Rowling. (I don't see any additional material in it, though.)

I didn't intend to buy a collectors edition--it just sort of happened. I picked it up at the book store along with a few other books one fine day. I didn't notice there was anything special about it--I just wanted to get a copy of the book and grabbed one off the first stack I saw. Big mistake.

When my order was rung up, I was stunned at the total. I remember numbly forking over my credit card and wondering how the heck a few books came out to so much money. Well, when I finally glanced at the receipt I saw what had happened: I was the proud new owner of a collectors edition of Sorcerer's Stone that cost me $75.00!!!

I probably should have marched right back in and returned it, but I was kind of embarrassed about it and meekly left with my overpriced book.

Oh, just for everyone's edification, I will be pre-ordering this edition as soon as possible, regardless of whether it's worth it or not.

I don't know, I'd have to see it first. Applecheeks! I'm jealous even if you did buy it by accident! I'd love to have that copy, no I don't want to buy it from you, however but gosh A sketch by JKR herself! (sigh)

This was the part that intrigued me....

(This is a quote from the illustrator of the Harry Potter books)

"It's a real treat for me to get another chance to visually bring Harry back to his fans in not only a new scene, but in a new light."

Hmmmm.... Makes me wonder what JK is going to add in there, now.

Pixie: The drawing is a sketch of Harry standing in front of a fireplace with pictures of the Dursley's around it. Harry does not look very happy about being there. Below the drawing it says, "Ink Portrait of Harry Potter at No. 4, Privet Drive by JK Rowling, August 1995"

There is also a little paragraph about the drawing, and her signature.

Hmmmmmm. I'll probably wait until I hear from other Harry
Potter fans about the 'additional' material. But am intrigued,
I have to admit. And if I'm just a smidgen interested I'll
buy it.
Right now I am reading book six to a boy I am tutoring. We
both love the reading time of our lessons. He goes from hyper
anxious to quiet and calm. The magic of Harry.

Geez Applecheeks...I would have loved to have gotten my hands on your overpriced book.

But, then again, I was at the bookstores at midnight when the new books came out, and at midnight movie releases.

I am a fanatic of all things Harry Potter, Star Wars, and The X-Files.

Fellow geek here!

I'm probably worse than you, though: I used to go to Star Trek conventions in costume!

Ooh, September 23 is my birthday! Yeah, that's irrelevant... I am definitely a sucker for all things Harry Potter and Star Wars as well.

On another somewhat related note, I studied abroad in Italy last year, and before I went, to refresh my Italian, I bought Sorcerer's Stone in Italian. Some of the translations are super funny, like for the made-up words. Like "muggles" is "babbani." No idea why.

I wonder if "muggles" sounds like something naughty in Italian?

P.s. I am jealous that you can speak that language! It's one of two (French being the other one) that I would love to learn.
