Default ymca scale rant!

I went to go to the gym today and weigh myself. I got on the scale and found out they got a new one, and it only goes to 200 pounds! WTF? And, it wasn't even working!!! I had to ask the desk lady where the scale was for the fat people. She said they had the broken one that only went to 200 pounds, or the one in the gym, where everyone could watch you weigh in. I'm going tomorrow to talk to a manager. Am I overreacting, or is this really irritating?

What's the point anywhere of having a scale that's public. Don't understand the ones in grocery stores either.

Having the scale in the gym may be common practice for the YMCA. The scale at my Y is in the gym too. When I use it I look only at the scale and not at the people I feel might be peeking. In my head I remind myself that I am here for my health and not their approval. I have to have that same talk with myself at times, like when I'm on the treadmill walking, and there's runners on both sides.

Well I certainly would be annoyed that they replaced it with a scale that only goes to 200. Do they think that no one weighs higher than that? Are they planning to fix the original scale and bring it back? If it's temporary, I"d be much less annoyed.

I would talk to the manager of the gym about it.

I def. would talk to the manager of the gym, too. I think that's discrimination! What, people over 200 can't even get their weight?!

Oh, definite weight discrimination!

Also, what are the muscle builder guys gonna do? I very seriously doubt many of them weigh less than 200 lbs! I doubt you are the only one who will be complaining to the manager.

Find out if this is only a temporary situation (which it may very well be). If it's temporary, nothing much to do but wait. If they've decided that people over 200 pounds don't like to weigh themselves, then I'd raise ****.

I agree, if it is NOT a temporary thing, then you need to go to the manager. That is not right at all!!

My son sure wouldn't be able to weigh himself on that scale - and he is complaining that he just lost 10 pounds from being sick.

I'm going to talk to the manager tomorrow. I also had a thought: what if the scale went up to 200 kg? It was still broken, but maybe it went by kg and not pounds. I think it might have said kg.
But even if it did, why use a metric scale in South Texas? Who would be able to read it? (I am poking fun guys, I'm not serious!)
It just ticked me off that the size 2 desk clerk obviously did not care about the broken/discriminating scale. And I know I wasn't the only one who complained!

Lol about kg, chicky. I'm a Korean and they use metric system in Korea so I was used to using kg for like 18 years... but now I'm used to using lbs and even my scale at home is in lbs! :P

Thanks! If it was measuring in kg, which I really don't remember if it was or not, it could have atleast been a WORKING scale! I could have converted kg to pounds when I got home!
And honestly, metric in Texas?! I've nothing against the metric system (I think eventually the US will go to it) but I keep thinking of Texan folks, who think carpooling and organic foods are "hippie fads", ha ha!
And before I get any angry posts from fellow Texans, I am only kidding! I've lived in Texas all my life, and I like it!
