Default Steel Magnolias -- #167

Good Evening!
I will say "hello" while I can! For some reason the email part of the server was down the first time I logged on today. When I tried again later, the whole system was down. Tonight I had to connect by going in through the back way. What a pain but I made it!

Jackie -- What is your dog's name? We jokingly talked about claiming Leonard and Maggie on our tax returns! Who would ever guess? I think they do offer pet insurance though!

Lorraine -- Jackie was the lucky one to get the flat screen, not me. How is your mom doing? I'll bet your kids are glad that vacation is finally here . . . you too! Unfortunately it will go twice as fast as the school days.

Leonard is not as pale tonight! He even ate a few bites of cat food. When we gave him the antibiotics he was not a happy cat. I could never do it alone -- that is definitely a team effort. We even got the whole dropper full in him whereas the vet got about half and he spit the other half down the front of her.

Have a happy Saturday! It is finally raining here tonight -- hope it clears off long enough to put the dock in!

Jean -- from Iowa!

Talking Saturday in the park.....

GOOD MORNING STEEL MAGNOLIAS

It is cooler today and I don't have to have the air conditioner on! I am so happy. I am sure hoping I show a loss of 1.4 this coming Monday weigh in. I can't do anything but do my program though and hope for the best. What ever it gives me at weigh in I will accept. I do belive that it is what the whole month says instead of the weely weigh in. But I still have to go weekly to weigh in because if I didn't there would go my FOCUS flying out the window. I have to pay attention all the time or this will surely get away from me.

LORRAINE that was a nutty weird deal that fell on your house. Hope they get it fixed so the rain doesn't come in....ah but it isn't rain season there is it just HOT season. But I have so many fond memories of Texas. I wasn't born there but I got there as quick as I could. Back on program are you? You and Gin. I was wondering when they would make those thin computer monitors because the one on this laptop is very thin. I love it for it doesn't take up much room (that I don't have) at all. I use it on our dining table and then have a place to fold it up and slide it away when not in use or Turn would sit on it.

JEAN I thought you may be having computer problems when I got a return on one of the e-mails I sent your way. You may get it yet because they try 4 or 5 times it seems. So good ole Leonard decorated the doctors smock. That must have been a treat. I don't like giving cats meds at all. Turn at first liked his fir ball meds that tase like malt they say but now he just turns away so I put it in with his food. It hasn't cut down completely on the fur balls but made them less often and smaller. He has such long white hair that the meds and brushings just don't completely get rid of them. At least now he doesn't deposit them on my bed cover..... he has moved to the floor. Much easier to clean up.

COOKIE I bet you are really enjoying that new monitor. The are so nice looking and space savers. Hillary is probably loving living with you! Those fox tails can do a number on an animal as you have well found out. They can work down in those ears and really cause a mess. I wish you much success on your program. You know how to do it and what works for you and now are geared up to do it. Let's do a two step down this road to thin.

GLORIA WELCOME home. Hopefully you made it OK and will now get a chance to get rested up and then tell us all about it. I just know you had a good time.

Have a good weekend everyone.

GOOD EVENING MAGNOLIAS!!!!!!!

It is really great to be home again. We had a great time and really enjoyed the grandkids. Nick, who will be 6 in Aug, is reading way ahead of his grade and just worships his little sister. Cataline, at 4 months, is so adorable. She communicates with what they call the Teridactyl [sp?] call. Because she was showing hunger even after a feeding my DIL started giving her rice cereal and she loved it. She would grab her mother's had and pull the spoon to her mouth. Wow! My kids never did that!

We went to the Outer banks on the way to Raleigh and it was lovely but a bit cool. Raleigh, however, was just the opposite, last Saturday, June 1, the car thermometer read 100 deg. on the way back from a visit to a new mall.

Myrtle Beach was fantastic, the water was 75 and the air was 85. We spent the AM visiting all the sights and the PM at the hotel beach and pool. A perfect combination.

We also had great weather in Baltimore on the way home and were able to take a DUCK TOUR. This is a tour of land and water in an amphibious vehicle. They took us to a number of interesting landmarks around town then SPLASH DOWN in the inner harbor for a tour of the sea sights. What fun!

Stopped at Mohegan Sun, a CT casino, yesterday. Did not win but didn't lose either. I usually try to break even and then quit!!

MAGGIE You are still on a roll and I think that's great. Now that I am back I will try to get into the swing of things as well. Eating out every day is great but the way to lose. Also, traveling means I couldn't drink my water as much as I would have liked.

Jean Thanks for your welcome home! I have been trying to read up on what I missed but then I can't remember what I read. Can't be my age!!

JACKIE We used to have St. Bernards when the kids were young. I know what you mean about insurance. We had to have our first one put down because of heart worm. It was just as they came out with the heart worm pills and he was really infested. The vet suggested open heart surgery but we had 4 kids and that was out of the question. Hope you have a great time on your Alaskan cruise. Also, congrats on the new monitor. I just got a flat screen monitor and love it. Yes, it doesn't take us so much room.

LORRAINE Wow!! That must have been some wind to blow down the Pecan tree. Hope you can get the damage fixed before you get any rain.

CARESSE Hello, as you can note I have been away but I do want to say welcome! Never new anyone from Louisiana before. Sorry to hear about the problems your granddaughter has had but hope it is all behind her and she continues to grow healthier and healthier.
As all the other Magnolias have given their biographies I will say that I am 69 and have been married 45 yrs as of next September. We have 4 grown children, 3 girls and 1 boy. All are married and we have 9 grandkids. Actually the trip was to see our latest born in January.

Well I can hardly keep my eyes open so I am
Gloria in MA.....off to bed.

Angry

Good Evening!
It is soooo windy today! We spent the day with MIL and the guys got the dock, boat hoist, and boat in the water. With the wind it was a little tricky. Then they mowed and trimmed the weeds, cut the parts of a fallen tree branch that they could reach, buried the dead fish; all this while we gals fixed food, cleaned up the kitchen, and vacuumed.

Maggie -- Yes, my email was down yesterday. I knew there was trouble when it said I had no new messages. I could check in here but it was so very slow I gave up doing anything else. When I came back later the whole server was down. I didn't try this morning before we left but I only had 25 emails tonight -- mostly junk-- so I know there are some that never came through. I didn't get any from you. Try again please! Leonard is feeling much better and begging for food today. He sees me coming with the towel I wrap him in and he takes off. I have to be sneaky and have Bob wait in one room with the towel and meds while I scoop him up. We work fast!

Gloria -- Your trip sounds just wonderful! I have seen the Ducks but never have been in one. I think they look like fun! I'm so glad you are home safely and had such a nice time.

I have laundry going and need to switch loads. Have a nice Sunday, Flowers!

Well...I don't know which thread to go to here...if this is the wrong one...someone please just move me over!

Gloria: Sounds like you had a great vacation!! I bet it was hard leaving those precious grandkids! What is it that Cataline communicates with?? Eating cereal already...sounds like my son Geoff. He came home from the hospital drinking 6-8 oz per feeding!...it took Kristin a month to get up to 4!!

Maggie: I'm really rooting for a 1.4 loss this Monday!! What a glorious achievement when you do...50 pounds gone forever! !

Jean: Geoff's dog's name is Hillary (named after Sir Edmond of Mt. Everset fame) but we just call her Hil (like in small mountain!) The paw is healing up nicely. Hil eats dry dog food (and all the "people" food she can get!) but I've been putting the antibiotic caps in a wet dogfood "meatball" She loves them. So we decided instead of giving her cheese (her favorite) for a treat...we will just keep a can of dog food handy and give her a meatball!! That way she will stay a healthy weight and won't have to go down the road to thin with us!! LOL

Regan: I read you post on the other site...I'm glad to see that things are starting to fall in place with your program. You can do this!! And we are here to cheer you on!

Well flowers, Enjoy your Sunday!
Jackie

Talking Regan

Regan, I took the liberty of moving your post. I hope you don't mind. I'm sorry I didn't see it when I started #167!

I enjoy reading the posts! I went grocery shopping. I start
back on ww tomorrow! I am ready! I figured if I can quit smoking after 26 years, I know I can lose weight again! I was on ww before. I bought one of those Perfect Pancake makers. It looks like it makes a big pancake. I don't know how many points it
would be counted as! How many teachers in your group? How
would I join your group! Everyone is so sweet! Do you use any
chat rooms? Looking forward to a good weekend. Everybody
have a good one

Thumbs down

Good Morning!
It is cloudy and humid again today but not quite as windy. I walked early to avoid the heat of the day. I was the only one out along with birds and squirrels. Nice!

Jackie -- I think it easier to fool a dog into taking meds as long as they will eat. Cats are just too smart! When I get the towel out, all three of them take off now. I'm pretty good at sneaking up on Leonard though . . . I always did call him my LD cat! He still comes running when anyone is opening the refrigerator door, no matter what time of the day it is. That was my clue that he was really sick in the first place.

Regan -- I hope you don't mind that I moved your post over. I can't delete the other one though, you can or you can just leave it. Jackie and I are teachers, Maggie is a woman of many talents , Lorraine works in a school library, Cindy is a nurse, Gail and Sharon work in offices, Gloria is retired but worked with disabled people (correct me if I am wrong on that one!). You join the Flowers just by posting! I use a chat room on another forum but have never used it here. Maggie has MSN messenger and I'm not sure about the others. Good luck with WW -- CONGRATULATIONS for going back . . . . and for NOTsmoking any more!!

Maggie -- Have you heard from Cindy lately? I sent her an email some time ago but never heard back from her. I hope everything is OK.

I need to get busy and finish some laundry. Have a nice Sunday!

Jean -- from Iowa!

Talking Sunday ~ glorious day

GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS

Nice and cool this morning means to me a perfect day will develop for it won't get real hot so I can have my windows open. Yes!

REGAN I think when you mean to post on this thread and wirte something but are clicking on the new thread button and should be using the post reply one that is on the right. You will get the hang of it for everything right at first is a bit confusing. We will be glad to help with what we can here. About that pancake..... if a 4 inch one is one point made from a mix that one would probably be 6 to 8 points. You can judge that by how much batter you put into it. You are already a STEEL MAGNOLIA here for all it takes is to jump right in and start typing. I don't go to any chat rooms but do have the MSN program and chat personal once in awhile.

GLORIA that little Cataline is going to have to be watched. The lights are on and someone is definitely at home there. I would love to hear about what she does as she grows. Gonna be a corker.

JEAN isn't it amazing what guys can get done in adverse weather when they want it done. I can just see Leonard taking one look at that towel and heading the other direction. Cats have a way about them. CINDY is doing fine but having evening sickness. They have heard the baby's heart beat and are quite excited about that. She isn't on her computer much these days since she has moved to the states and gotten married and now pregnant ~ her life style has changed somewhat. and for the better. I am surprised though that she didn't answer your e-mail because she is usually good about doing that. Send her another.

COOKIE what a neat idea to make dog food meat balls. Dogs are the easiest to give meds to because they are so trusting. I can imagine what fun Hil is to have around. Have you ever made here any doggie biscuits? I used to have a good recipe for cheese ones that my pooch just loved as his treat. I used a bone shaped cookie cuter for them. The things I used to do.

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning Flowers!

Well...the wind has FINALLY stopped!!! I thought we were going to blow away there for a while. I'm just having a lazy Sunday...Geoff stopped by on his way to work to play with Hil...(and have a REAL breakfast!) She still can't go back up to the lake with all the foxtails, but she loves to romp on the grass!

JEAN: You are so right about cats! I had to laugh at the "towel" ...I remember that! That's funny that you call Leonard your LD cat...we always said that Squirty was a Special Ed Cat!
No problem giving Hil her meds...she eats just about anything...one thing she won't eat...peas!!! Typical kid! LOL

REGAN: I saw that "perfect pancake" maker on TV...looked pretty slick...but with my intolerance of carbs (together with my great love of them!!) it would be a dangerous thing for me to have! Have you tried a grilled cheese sandwich in it yet... yummm...grilled cheese sandwich...I remember those...kind of!

MAGGIE: I HAVE made the dog biscuits for Hil...with the bone cookie cutter...I used to send them to her in Maine...not they barely have a chance to cool!! Cheese is her favorite flavor, but the beef ones run a close second.

GLORIA: Hope you are catching back up with things now that you're home. I always wonder how we create so much LAUNDRY while on vacation!!

Well Flowers...enjoy you Day!!

GOOD EVENING MAGNOLIAS

Just dropped by to read the posts and thought I would add mine.
Need to clarify the new baby's name. It is CATALINA. I asked my DS & DIL what prompted them to pick that name and they just liked it. However, my slightly off center son said it is the name of an island off California, a salad dressing, a brand of sportswear, a car, a mountain range in Arizona and a few other things I can't remember. He calls her his cowgirl.
JACKIE, that comunication sound that she makes is sort of a loud cry but she is not crying so Nick, 6, said she sounded like a dinasaur.
We went to Cam's piano recital today. There were kids from 8 to 13 and it was fun. Cam played 'Coming Round the Mountain' and was so proud of himself. I should have taped it so I could play it back when he is older and gets better on the piano.

Yes, Jean, I did work with the disabled population. That was a good job, I loved it and them. Boy you have a good memory.

Got the laundry done and now I need another good night's sleep so I can continue on this housework streak.

Gloria in MA.....saying Good Night and have a great week.

Talking My Weigh Day

GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS

I don't hear any jet helicopters overhead to day so maybe they do have that fire contained today. Yesterday it was 40% contained and they thought eighter today or tomorrow it would be. This is my weigh day and I am very hopeful. I have done what I could and now it is up to my body to let go and the Iron Monster to tell me it happened ~ that I reached my 50 gone. Maybe I will even take off a shoe if it is close. I have never wanted to lose a certain amount like this before.

COOKIE I can just see Hil waiting for those biscuits to come out of the oven ~ like a kid with good smelling cookies. You are such a good mom to show that TLC to adorable hunk.

GLORIA what fun that recital must have been. I love to go to those and see the big smiles break out on those children when the clapping begins.

Catch you on the rebound......

Talking

Good Afternoon, Flowers!
It is another cloudy day; the clouds look like rain clouds but so far no rain drops have fallen. We need it badly as the yards are beginning to turn brown. I have been putzing all day trying to eliminate a pile or two. Why is it, that one project rolls right into another?

Maggie -- I hope the fire is out and stays out by now! GOOD LUCK at weigh in tonight! I have my fingers and toes crossed for you! I will have to email Cindy again. I think she is due within a week of Amanda. I had to laugh at Jason; I don't think he really believed "they" were pregnant until they heard the heartbeat at their last appt. Exciting!

Jackie -- I admire you for making dog biscuits! Cookie cutters and I don't get along. A long time ago I ordered a cookbook, advertised in Good Housekeeping, sponsored by a Humane Society somewhere. The book had a section on making your own pet food.

Gloria -- Piano recitals bring back two BAD memories for me. I wasn't very old but when it was my turn my mind went totally blank. My teacher was a perfectionist and I was scared of her. Thankfully my mom had my music and once I got started I didn't need it. The other is one Beth had that she hadn't practiced enough for and absolutely murdered the piece. I was so embarrassed! I think her piano career ended shortly after that.

Regan -- Have you made any pancakes yet?

I need to fold some laundry and get back to my piles. Have a terrific Tuesday!

Jean -- from Iowa!

Hi Everyone!!

I hope everyone is doing great. Another hot one here today. As usual we are into June and the temps range in the high 90's. Thank goodness for airconditioning. Had the kids in the pool and now I am doing the laundry. I have made a list of projects that I want to try and complete over this summer. Crossing fingers that I can get it all done.

Maggie: I am glad to hear that the fire might be under control. I started on program again today. I was watching myself before, but not staying on program the way I should. So today is the start of a new program for me. Good luck in weigh in tonight. I will be thinking about you

Gloria: Welcome back. I am glad that you had a great trip. I too agree that it is always nice to be back home after a long trip. It is nice just to be able to be in your own home and relax. Your grandchildren sound so cute!! The storm that made the tree come down was a very bad one. We were under a tornado warning and the lightning was so bad. The adjuster that came to our house said it looked like it was hit by lightning. There are burn marks on the tree in two places...like an enter and exit mark. I didn't know that happened. But whatever the reason, I had a nice garden in my living room when the branches were in there. LOL

Jean: Hi. How are you doing?

Jackie: Hope you enjoy your new screen.

Well the buzzer just went off on the dryer and I need to get the cloths folded and put away.
I hope everyone has a great night

Hi Flowers!!

Hey...do you all realize how much time we all spend doing the laundry!!? LOL. It's funny, I have just as much now even though the kids are gone...the loads are just smaller...not fewer!

It is 6:00 pm here in CA and we are having a 60% eclipse of the sun. It casts a very eerie light on things. It was about 90 today, so maybe now it will be 60% cooler this evening! LOL

I've reconnected with a high school friend of mine, who writes. He just sent me one of his manuscripts to read, edit and comment on. Good Stuff!! He should look into getting published.

Maggie: I hope the news was good at weigh-in tonight! But if not...Tomorrow is another day Scarlet! But I bet you made it!!

Hope you all had a good start of the week!

Talking Happy, Happy, Happy

GOOD EVENING MAGNOLIAS

Gals am I high! I weighed in and told her not to write anything down until I had shown a loss of 1.4 because I was ready to get off the scale and shed a shoe. She started laughing so hard tears came for I showed a loss of 2.4 which brings my big total to 51 gone now. This little ie is happy happy happy to say the least.

LORRAINE welcome back to program. You can do this thing for I totally believe you can and you know it.

COOKIE I saw the eclipse on the way home from WW. It was hazy and I looked right at it and said - we are having an eclipse. DUH I hadn't heard we were going to. I thought maybe it was celebrating with me for that weight loss. If it wasn't it should have been.
