Default Biggest Loser T.V. show question...

I watch the show and love it. But Is it possible for the people to lose as much weight as they say they do? Like for 1 week there's people that loose between 8 and 15 pounds in 1 week even after the 1 st week and all the diet pros say 1 to 2 lbs a week. I guess the show mekes me feel like i nee to lose 8 pounds a week to succeed... Argg....

They aren't losing 8-15 pounds in one week. Trust me.

Many times the shows are not taped every 7 days. Also, high weight losses are much more likely in someone who is EXTREMELY oveweight as well, for the first few weeks. It isn't uncommon for someone 300 pounds to lose 7 pounds their first week, but much of this is water weight. It won't happen though, once they get 20-30 pounds down the road. It also won't happen for someone who is about 155 pounds, trying to get to 130. The smaller you are, the slower it will be, in most cases.

Actually, they in fact, are losing that much weight per week. One of the contestants is from my home town, so, we know how long he's been gone, and how much he's lost.

But, it's also very true that the bigger you are, the more possible it is to lose large numbers over and over. But, also, remember how much exercise these people are getting, and they have nutritionists, doctors, trainers all helping them achieve that tremendous weight loss in a ridiculously short amount of time.

I'd rather be moderately plump and only losing one or two lbs a week, thankyouverymuch!

The filming schedule staggers a bit...some weeks end up 9-10 days, some end up 3-4, resulting in the "bad weeks" on the scale...but the overall time the contestants are gone is the same.

We had a whole thread going on this here:

Just as mandalinn said, the weeks that they film all of the huge losses, those are the days that the filming is at 9-10 days, not in 1 week.

There is also talk of them doing things to make their weigh ins better, such as adjusting their sodium and water intake, etc. from various sources.

Also, they usually pick contestants with a lot of weight to lose, which will make their initial few weigh ins larger, and therefore more dramatic for the watching audience...but someone at home trying to lose 20 pounds isn't going to see the dramatic loss in two weeks that someone weighing 300 pounds is going to see in those first couple weeks.

I don't know this for certain, but it wouldn't surprise me to learn that folks ate extra in the weeks leading up to the ranch. If I knew that I was going on a show like that and I was one of the "game play" oriented folks, I'd be eating pizza and burgers and fries every day until I showed up there.

also remember that is all they are doing. Eating, exercising, & learning . They are not at work, shopping, chasing kids, carpooling, etc etc. If we lived that "life" for a few weeks I'm sure we'd lose a few pounds too
