Default Losing on Atkins but missing...

VEGGIES

I want my broccoli and my squash and my spinach.

I feel guilty piling my place up with broccoli because of the carbs. It's one of my simple pleasures - a huge bowl of steamed broccoli with butter and pepper.

I read about the F Factor diet, which sounded similar to Atkins, but removing the counting of non-starchy veggies. Anyone have any luck with that?

I'm confused...if you're doing Atkins, why can't you have broccoli with butter Broccoli is most definitely permitted, even on Atkins Induction, as well as spaghetti & summer squash and spinach

The starchier veggies, like acorn squash, carrots, sweet potatoes & peas are added in the pre-maintenance phase of Atkins.

Here are the links to the 4 phases of Atkins, you might want to have a look. They are quite helpful

I always eat loads of broccoli, spinach, and spaghetti squash!!! Im not a salad person...Id rather eat bowls of veggies, or veggie soup. Go for it!

Dont forget, you add in your carbs, then subtract the fibre for your total carb count.

The carbs in broccoli add up fast. There are 2 carbs per cup, and a cup isn't really all that much. Same with spinach. A cup of fresh spinach as 3 net carbs...but cooked down it's only about a quarter cup. Which means a cup of cooked spinach has (roughly) 12 net carbs. Which is why I'm curious if anyone had any luck with low-carb diets that didn't restrict non-starchy veggies.

Personally, I've never measured my veggies nor my salad since day 1 of Atkins. I wouldn't say I eat excessive amounts of either. I have a medium sized salad everyday for lunch with probably about 6-8 large cooked broccoli florets cut up in it. For dinner, I'll have another small salad and a veggie...usually green beans, spinach, yellow squash, zucchini, asparagus, brussel sprouts...if I had to estimate, I'd say maybe a cup to a cup & a half. Its never stalled my weightloss.

I really have never measured my green veggies either. I eat green beans, brocolli, cabbage, spinach, celery, cucumbers, brussel sprouts without any problems with weight stall or weight gain. I have fairly large salad everyday. It's things such as potatoes, corn, carrots, peas that I try to avoid.

I have read that Broccoli is very low in Carbs. That is probably one of the only veggies I have kept on this diet. So far so good! I say with reading all the other posts you could eat those brocs! Give it a try, see what happens but I am pretty sure you will be happy with the results!
