Not Halloween Again!!!

  • As a child I loved Halloween. Now as an adult it has turned out to be the worst time for me.
My husband is in a band and every year they have Halloween parties to play at. I hate it because all the girls that are associated with the band show up in the cute/sexy costumes and then there's me....
So here we are again 3 halloween shows in the next 3 weekends. Every costume I find either shows off EVERY fat roll I have or makes me look 50 lbs heavier then I am. Any suggestions of costumes that will not make me look horrible??????
  • Last year I went as a cowgirl. It's a pretty easy costume to create and it doesn't have to be skimpy or baggy.
  • I went as a "whisky girl" last year. It was basically a cow girl outfit but I carried around a fifth of Jack Daniels all night. I used a long jean skirt, a black top, and a black cow girl hat (all of which I already owned so I knew would look good on me) and then bought a used pair of boots from the local thrift store. Everyone loved the custom.
  • This year I am going as a toddler. I am getting feetie pajamas, putting my hair in pigtails, and carrying around a teddy bear. That being said, I am under NO pressure to be sexy (DH is deployed), so that might not be what you are looking for. The other costume I was contemplating was being a gypsy, they are always mostly covered with some cleveage showing, long flowing skirts, scarves, jewelry, some good make-up. Honestly, I think SO many of the costumes out these days are just WAY to slutty, they seem way more suited to the bedroom than anyplace else!
  • I don't really want to be sexy just not looking aweful in what I dress in. Amazing how I can dress everyday and look okay but this one day I can't find anything.

I'm thinking a witch since black tends to hit my rolls..black cotton dress with a sheer cape should do the trick..we'll see.

Thanks for the ideas. Cowgirl sounds fun but I would get funny looks since its a heavy metal band.
  • hey look at torrid.com they have lots of cute halloween costumes, that with a shaper will make you totally hot too
  • or what about a vampire/goth thing?
  • Well I went to the local halloween shop lastnight. After lookin and lookin I noticed they had a section of mark down costumes that were missing pieces. So I looked through them and found a long black dress that is shreaded at the end and has long sleeves(half is sheer). It has a silver deco. collar. It was orig. 45.99 and was marked down to 9.99
So I bought that and found a witch hat that matches it. It has black feathers around the brim with silver highlights. It was marked down to 4.99. So there it is...I"m a marked down Witch.
Best part was when i came home and tried it on for my hubby he told me I looked very sexy....and I wasn't even going for sexy.
    Thanks everyone for the ideas.
My first halloween party is 10/21 so I'll try to post pics so you can see how it turned out.
  • I'm glad you found something! (and congrats on finding it cheap ) Have fun!
  • Thank you
  • goth stuff is always hot on larger women. corsetts thin your middle then you end up with the awesome racks( not that I know what you rack looks like). But if you have one, get something that pushes right int he face of those skinny minnies.
  • Im going as the First Lady!
Well for Halloween this year our friends are having a party at their house. My husbands best friends husband is obsessed with Halloween and insists that we dress up. We already made plans to take one of our friends out for his 40th birthday since he is having a tough time in his life right now and doesn't really have any family here (hes from Liverpool) and not many friends. But hoping to get him to come to the party with us - he needs to get out and have some fun and forget about all the crap he has been going through.

Anyways for our Halloween costumes for when we arrive later is going to be pretty simple. My hubby is just wearing jeans, dress shirt, suit jacket and I will wear some of my dressier clothes and have my hair done really nice. Making a sign for him to carry that says "Vote Jimmy" and Im accompanying him as his first lady and we wanna get buttons made for me to hand out that say "vote jimmy - party party". I guess you gotta know us and our friends but it's an ongoing joke whenever we party that they all call him the Party Prime Minister and since Im his wife Im the first lady. So we thought we would play off of that.

Simple - doesn't have to be sexy - doesn't require us to spend much money - and everyone will get a good laugh outta it.

Happy Halloween - it is what you make it!
  • My suggestions are a little bold, but they worked for me. Two of my favorite costumes took full advantage of my curves. One was a renaissance style barmaid (big gals have great cleavage) and a Wagnerian opera singer (ala Viking chain mail, blond braids, and horned helmet - and more cleavage).

I was shocked at the positive attention I got from these costumes, as I was over 275 lbs when I wore them. It wasn't all platonic attention either. The ren costume got a few racy comments from a couple men and one lesbian.
  • Great ideas! I can dress up at work that day (in a clinic), so I think I'm going to wear my PJs with sneakers (slippers would get too nasty), a spiked bracelet I have from my grunge days, wear heavy make up and put some black hair coloring (the cheap spray from walmart) at the tips of my hair. I will be a tough kid!!!
  • Those all sound so fun. I tried my costume on today for the party tonight. It does hide alot. My husband is going as a beer keg...lol.
The one tonight is going to be outside and its only suppose to be 45 degrees where I live. I think I'm gonna freeze. I told my hubby that I'm taking more clothes incase it gets too cold. But at least maybe some of the other girls will have on clothes unlike last year when their outfits were so skimpy their "you know what's" were hanging out and I don't mean boobs.
Hope everyone has a good and fun Halloween.
