Default **Weekly Chat, Sept. 18 - Sept. 25**

I've never started the weekly chat before... but I figure since it hasn't been done I'd go ahead and do it. (Daisy, where are you hun? -- in fact, where have all of the regular chatty ladies been? Am I the only one with nothing better to do on my weekends? )

Hope everyone's weekends were good. I'm having a tough time due to a nasty cold... I ate basically nothing today and suddenly at 9pm I'm ravenous. I can't even justify just going to bed, as I should be up at least another couple hours doing some reading.

I watched a movie today (not sure how old it is) called "Paper Clips." It's about a middle school in rural Tennessee which decided to collect enough paperclips to represent everyone who died during the Holocaust.... it's very moving. Maybe it's because I'm sick and therefore emotional, but it made me cry a little. I recommend it to anyone who likes documentaries....

Feeling good about this week, despite the illness! I've got my whole week planned out eating-wise, now I just have to stick to it. If I can stick to what I've got figured out, I should do really really well..... and I have absolutely NO junk food in the house to tempt me. So things look good.

lol Brit, dont worry, i have nothing better to do on my weekends either! lol I hope you feel better and thats great that you have no junkfood! I always found myself buying "snacks" for my 2 year old, which in the end i end up eating too... But this pay day im like, if IM not eating that junk, i shouldnt let HIM eat it... So no more 'fruit snacks' that are packed with sugar, and things like that... and i found out he will actually eat golden delicious apples, so instead of crap hes eating good stuff! Sometimes **** even eat baby carrots, and worse comes to worse i can give him a low calorie granola bar (i know i know, still alot of sugar but better than some of the other stuff). I just wish i could get my HUSBAND to eat fruit now haha..

Hey everyone!

Saturday killed my diet.. not by what I ate, but what I drank! 4 Zimas = one drunken Fae who went way over calories.. but it was fun. Today was better...im eating my last meal right now. I feel proud because the boyfriend decided it was a pizza night.. which before was we each ordered our own pizza, eating most of it tonight and the rest over the next couple of days. I, however, had a SmartOnes pizza while he ordered one for himself.. I was good!

Not much to add in at the moment. just wanted an update to say yes, Im here too.. and I also have nothing to do on the weekends.

Brit - I've heard of that, it sounds interesting! I'll really have to check it out.

Marines - go you! Teaching healthy habits early is a good start.

Oh wow. I slacked and did not go to the gym, but food wise I didn't do too bad. And tonight when my boyfriend, his Mom and I went to dinner, we walked to the restaurant and back (which is maybe 1/4 of a mile one way?). It was relaxing, but at least it was movement. I also spent Saturday doing the household shopping which involved a lot of walking so that was something. Anything that involves walking makes me feel better since I have a desk job.

My boyfriend and his Mom plus several of our friends went to the Nopi car show today. Chris (bf) came back with a tank top for me plus lots of posters of the cars. The posters and program book are all covered in girls in itty bitty barely there bikinis. Omg. It made me feel yuck-o about not going to the gym and it made me have a grilled chicken salad for dinner instead of pizza or pasta at the italian restuarant we went to. Motivating I guess, yay.

Chris and I have 5 baby kittens in our bathroom that got dumped at our vets office. We're bottle feeding them constantly. Its crazy but they are adorable. I'm trying to find a no kill shelter to take them but so far no luck, poor babies. We'll see what happens. I'm getting up at 6:30 am (I usually sleep till 8:15) to feed them and going home on my lunch hour. Between the early hours and late nights (studying, house hold chores, etc., keep me up :sigh: ) I haven't been going to the gym like I should b/c I'm so tired all the time. I know, excuses excuses.

I'm taking a second job on the weekends for October as a cashier at Netherworld haunted house. I'm excited about it. And the little bit of extra money will be nice.

britomart: I've been home too, I just hadn't checked this forum. Yay on not having junk food in the house. I hope you feel better soon though.

Marineswife85: Good job on the healthy snacks! Why don't guys like fruits and veggies? I never understand that. Chris is picky about it too.

FaeReverie: Giving up alcohol is one of the hardest parts of my diet! I hadn't realized how used to having wine with dinner I was until recently. Realizing how many empty calories alcohol has though was crazy. Good for you on the Smart Ones pizza! I like their pizzas too, yum.

morning ladies

i had a lovely afternoon yesterday. OH and I took the dogs for a walk in the national park across from our suburb and it was gorgeous. I was mad at myself for not bringing my camera. We saw a bunch of kangaroos and one of them had a joey in its pouch (priceless!), rosella chicks, ducklings, all sorts. Spring truly has sprung here. On the plus side it was a 90 minute walk so I got in some much needed exercise.

I weighed in on Saturday (dispite my better judgement) and have lost 200g (0.4lb) this week. Better than nothing and certainly better than gaining.

I have a new lease on my weight loss and have decided enough is enough. Either I am in this to win or I am just wasting my time. So not more bull! This time the game is on and I am bringing it .

britomart - i have planned out my week for eating too. I feel much more in control because of it. even made my lunch this morning *gasp*. here's to a week on track!

heather - nooooooo don't buy junk for anyone! You are dead right that if you know it isn't good for you, it can't be good for your child. To combat the junk food at our house, the kids get one commercial "snack" food a week and thats it - a snack that I class as processed and therefore junk. Something like a box of museli bars or muffin bars (which they choose) and then the rest of their snacks are yogurts, fruit, vegetable sticks, wholegrain english muffins, homemade blueberry muffins (happy to share the recipe with you) etc. at first they wanted the junk, but now they are making better food choices and seeking out the good stuff. preparation is the key. ok, sorry it turned into a lecture

fae - good choice on the pizza. i hear you. we normally get a whole pizza each and then proceed to eat the WHOLE THING! totally never going to happen again. portion control it is

I'm worried about one of my kitties about three weeks ago, I got two 7-year-old boys from a shelter to keep me company during my stupidly long LDR fiasco. They're really sweet and I'm already very attached to them. And they love each other very much, they groom each other and sleep in a little ball and such. One of them, though, has a growth on his face that the vet told me not to worry about unless it gets bigger.... and it might be my imagination, but I swear it's gotten bigger. That combined with the fact that he has a bald patch on one of his ears, where he can't reach to groom so he didn't do it himself. I thought maybe his brother did it to him, but now it doesn't just look like a bald patch, it's scabby and spreading. Plus there's the fact that he over-grooms and barbers his fur, so he has little self-inflicted bald patches and scabby bits on his body that might be from a skin irritation, and might be psychological. Poor guy. I feel so bad for him, he's such a sweetie! So, despite having NO extra money for this sort of thing, I'm at least going to take him in to get the bump biopsied... to put my mind at rest. And to get that ear looked at. I can handle him eating his fur... he doesn't seem to mind... but that bump really worries me! I hope he doesn't have cancer I'd also feel really silly for getting emotional about it, since I've only had him three weeks... But I know I will if it ends up being bad news. Siiiigh. These poor little furry creatures really get to your heart, you know?

In happier news, WI this morning was down two pounds! I'm finally down to the weight my ticker has shown ALL summer. gotta break this 195 mark that I've been stuck at so long, and the rest should be a cinch!

Heather: good job on deciding to keep your kid healthy too. His eating habits now will more likely than not dictate how he eats later on in life... What I wouldn't give to go back in time and tell my mom, "Hey, don't let me eat 3 bowls of Frosted Flakes in the morning! What's wrong with you??" Not that I can only blame her, but I did pick up some bad habits then....

Fae: I've never had a Zima. I remember their commercials from years ago with people walking on the ceilings after they had one.... is that a testiment to how drunk they make you? Great job on getting back on track right away. A high-cal day every now and again's not going to kill you....!

Feisty: I had a friend who was in love with sleek expensive cars, and his room was plastered with posters and calendars of super-skinny model women in bikinis (or less!) hanging off the cars. He never got a girlfriend while he had these up in his room -- I wonder why? Anyone he'd bring into the room would be like, uhhhh..... you expect me to look like that?? Even though he didn't, he just liked the cars. So I know what you mean about feeling weird around them!

daisy: WTG on the loss! Hey, .4 pound is another .4 pound you're never going to see again. Yes, let's get on with this week -- totally on track, the two of us! In my mind I always think things would be better if I planned... and now I have, so we'll see what happens!

Hey everyone!

I hear ya on trashing the diet on the weekend...it was a bad weekend for me. It was kind of stressful! I went clothes shopping. Yeah, I"m not a fan of shopping at all, and usually end up buying the wrong clothes for my body type (I'm petite - 5'0") and it's so frustrating trying to find anything that fits properly! I found two pairs of jeans, and at the store I really liked them... got them home tried them on and I hate how I look in them! They don't feel or fit right anymore, so I don't get it! I already took the tags off too, so I can't take them back! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I hate buying jeans!!!

Nothing really to update yet.. Im awake, while the boyfriend will probably be passed out for another hour... so here I am to entertain myself for a bit.

Weight-wise, I havent moved.. during my morning weigh-in (yes, I do it every morning.. but only once a day i swear!) I was back at 205... after my alcohlic night the scale had jumped up a bit! =x But now Im back on track...

Feisty - Maybe you guys could find homes for them yourselves? I know a friend of mine has a cat that had kittens recently, and he had to find homes for them all. I tried to help him, asking around to people that I knew would take good care of a kitten... turns out he didnt really even need my help, because small fluffy babies are so pursuasive. =/ Plus, if you give them to friends, you'd be able to visit 'your' babies!

Daisy - we have done that too.. the only reason he didnt eat the whole thing is because he got a large, not a medium (And he still has other sides he ordered left, too.. ahhh the calories! *hides*) I totally plan on ordering pizza with him again once the weight comes off, but like a personal size one, NOT an entire medium to myself... or if I do, it gets eaten over a week's time!

Brit - poor kitty . My mom's cat (now officially the oldest animal in the house) has a large growth on her stomach, near her hind leg. I liken it to my skin abcesses, because it gets insanely large, and then it breaks open, then goes away, then comes back. We aren't sure where it came from, but it never seemed to bother her. The vet gave us some medication for it once and it didnt work.. then again I hate that vet, he killed 2 of my pets... but thats beside the point. Have him checked out.. I hope the kitty is ok!

Canadian - I know what you mean, my best friend is short, and has problems finding jeans that aren't too long. Most of the ones that she owns drag on the ground. My sister has the opposite problem... at 6" even, a lot of the jeans she finds are too long... she has to go browse in the "tall" section of department stores to find things she likes!

Hi ladies,

I went on a little vacation ("mini-break" as Bridget Jones would say) with BF last week to a big, swanky casino in Biloxi, MS. We didn't win much but didn't lose much either, and had fun being waited on hand and foot and lounging by the pool. I did drink some alcoholic beverages and there was a buffet involved...but no food porn, I won't describe my bad behavior. Got home Tuesday night and am totally OP since. An OP weekend for Megan??? Yes, it is true! I worked out, refused alcoholic beverages repeatedly, and went to the store to get healthy "weekend treat" food (lean steak, mmm) to cook instead of eating out. BF took me fishing yesterday and I caught a big grouper! We baked it with some spices and veggies for dinner last night and it was delicious. I love catching my own dinner!

I had bought some mixed organic baby greens at the store from a company not associated with the E.coli/spinach outbreak, then found out that they contained spinach and was still sorta wary. I didn't want to drive 25 min. to the store to get another veggie. BF took the whole package and threw it (the greens, not the packaging) off the deck so I couldn't eat them! I was so annoyed (ok I know better safe than sorry - but I wanted my veggies!) that he drove to the convenience store (no fresh veggies there) and got 4 different kinds of frozen/canned veggies to give me "options because he didn't know which ones were 'acceptable'" - kinda sweet b/c he knows I'm always trying hard to be healthy. He came back with the new green giant frozen broccoli and cauliflower in cheese sauce and I discovered that it's a lowfat cheese sauce, and is pretty tasty and not too bad for you.

Canadian_Mickey, I hate buying jeans too! It's even worse when you're on a really tight budget! It is awful I agree.

britomart, aww, your kittens sound very cute. Good luck with them. Congrats on losing 2 lbs!

Daisy Boo, bring it! Great attitude!

Feisty, good luck with your kittens. It's so hard to say no to little fuzzies in need. They are a lot of work but bring so much happiness. Did you know people with pets have lower blood pressure than people without?

Fae, good job on the pizza! That's so hard to resist. Not drinking on the weekend is really hard for me too. It's like if you go out with friends you're expected to have at least a drink or two. Which is fine, in theory, but it always makes me eat a lot of bad stuff!

Heather, sounds like a good plan to help your son eat healthier now so he'll learn better habits in the future. FYI it is possible that men like veggies. My BF LOVES them. He doesn't even like sweets. At all. Sadly I don't know how this freakish thing happened to him, or I would share the secret so we could all raise healthier children (of course he does like ranch dressing on his veggies, and plenty of non-sweet junk foods...).

Here's to a great week everyone!

Good Morning Ladies! The weekend was good until Saturday night. Friends wanted to go out to dinner. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with fries and shared dessert with everyone. The sandwich of course had a lot of melted cheese and bacon and I dipped my fries in ranch dressing. It was so good, but Sunday's morning walk/run felt horrible. It was my one splurge last week, and I still lost one pound so it couldn't have been that bad. I think that all of the work at the gym is keeping me in check and helping me lose the weight.

Brit: sorry to hear about your kitty, but I totally understand. My DH and I decided to have knee surgery on our dog instead of going on vacation this summer. She would have been fine the vet said on the three legs, but she just looked so sad that she could run and play as much with our other dog. Oh well we can go on vacation next year.

marineswife: good job at giving your son healty snacks, I wish my Mom would have done that for us as kids.

feisty: try and get some sleep

daisyboo: good job on the weightloss, your walk sounded so relaxing and fun

mickey: I think we all struggle to find jeans to fit. I say try taking them back.

megan: I know this whole spinach thing really upset me because spinach is one of my staple veggies.

I'm at home on my lunch hour for baby kitty feeding. My bf stayed out of work today to see the doctor for an ear infection so he got up and fed the babies this morning and let me sleep an extra hour, yay! He also cooked me breakfast (turkey bacon and whole wheat toast with oj) while I was in the shower which was so sweet. I really liked the sleep best though, lol.

Fae-We would love to find homes for them, but I don't feel right now knowing 100% that they are going out into the world with all their shots and neutering/spaying. I can't afford it unfortunantly which is why I'll take them to a shelter. The only people who have contacted me about them (got my info from my vet's office) are people I don't know and all 3 of them have said they want to give them as presents to some one else, to which I said no way. Thats one way cats wind up without good homes, or being dumped when they grow up, is being given as gifts.

Megan- I have always wanted to go to a casino. Is it as exciting as it looks on TV?

Mickey-I'm 5'0 too so I know how much clothign shopping sucks. Whenever I do hit a miracle and find good jeans that fit well I buy 2 or 3 pairs if I can.

britomart-on your slightly bald kitty-maybe he has an allergy? We had a dog who groomed herself bald in spots and it was b/c she had a flea allergy. One bite was all it took to set it off. I hope he is ok though!

dollypie-I would love some sleep! Hehe. Good job on staying on track with your exercise. It sounds like your one unhealthy-ish meal was at least good tasting. Fries and ranch, yum. If you're going to splurge, at least make it worth it taste wise.

I've made an appointment for the vet for my kitty for Wednesday. So we'll see what she says. We addressed his over-grooming at his "wellness visit" which is mandatory for cats you get from a shelter... she gave him a dose of Advantage to rule out the flea allergy (would kill any existing fleas, it's been 3 weeks so the flea bites, if there were any, should have healed by now). Unfortunately if it's an allergy to anything else it'll be REALLY hard to pin down. I'm kind of skeptical about the allergy thing, since he's new to this environment and it seems to have been a pre-existing condition. What makes me more worried is the bald scabby spot on his ear and the mole-like lump on his face. And the fact that I noticed this morning most of his bald scabby spots run straight along his spine... he's munched a little on his haunches too but it seems odd that they should mostly aline on his spine. It's too bad, he's such a beautiful cat... I really really hope he's okay and the more I think about it the more worried I get! Hopefully the vet has some kind of idea as to what's going on.....

Am I the only one who hasn't heard of the e.coli-spinach outbreak? Good thing I haven't managed to locate the spinach in my new grocery store yet! Though I think I gave myself a mild case of e.coli this summer when I went hiking... my friend and I found a spring halfway up a long, hard trek uphill that came straight out from between rocks and was clean-looking (no sediment) and cold. So we refilled our water bottles from it..... being naive.... the following week was somewhat unpleasant!! So I won't do that again

Should go to class now. Right, class... that thing I'm paying thousands of dollars in tuition for...... :/

I know I've been MIA recently, and this once I'm going to let myself blame it on stress. The good news is that I've been on plan exercise wise. I did the Parent's Weekend 5K with my mom Saturday and we ran/walked.. came in just under 43minutes. Since I hadn't been training, I feel alright about that. The course was really hilly, and I'm a slow walker. My bff and I are going to do another 5k in about a month, so I'm going to work on my time.

All I have to eat at my apartment is brown rice, apples and grapes. I need to go grocery shopping, but I don't really have time or money. I can't wait until I'm not a poor student anymore!
I'm going to try to get in at least 15minutes of jogging tonight before kickboxing class.
Hope all you ladies are having a good week!!

Brito- Good for you not having tempting junk food around the house! I'm sorry to hear about your kitty

MarinesWife- Good luck with getting the family to eat healthy. Sometimes they won't even realize they like it till you make them try it. So, its worth a shot.

Fae- eEEeew.. Zimas? I can think of some tastier ways to blow a diet.

Feisty- I love your name! I too have found that walking around feels really good after a day of being sedentary. That haunted house job seems fun! Definitely something different.

Daisy- You make me want to visit Australia! One of my best friends studied down there for a year and she LOVED it.

Amanda- I hate buying jeans too! I had some perfect ones but I wore them out and everytime I buy some that I think are the same they end up being all wrong. So super frustrating. Thats why I end up wearing my work out clothes around.

Megan- OoOOh.. sounds like a nice break! And that was sweet of your boyfriend to get you veggies.

Tom Is Here So I Will Not Step On The Scale For A Week. I Think It's Horrible That The Week Before(pms) I Feel Bloated Like I'm Retaining Water. Then Of Course When I Start I Still Retain Water Then He Goes Away And It Takes Like Three Days To Get Back To Normal. So Is Normal Reatining Water Because I Have One "feel Skinny" Week A Month. Thats Awful.
I Always Stick To My Plan And I Am Losing Weight Weekly But I Always Wonder If I Weigh Even Less Without The Bloating.
I Hate Tom I Hate Tom...... I Am Thinking My New Birth Control Pills Are The Culprit. Does Any One Have Advice On This? Oh, I Drink Tons Of Water And Avoid Salt!

Other Than That I Did My Monday Morning Pilates Class And Sat In The Sauna For 15 Minutes.i Would Have Done The Eliptical For 15 But I Have No Headphones For My Ipod. My Hubby Used My Ipod This Weekend While He Was Doing Yard Work Needless To Say He Accidentally Cut The Wire With The Tree Trimmer. I Couldn't Help But Laugh When He Told Me The Story Of Him Rockin Out And Not Paying Attention

How Is Everyone Else Doing Today? Any Slip Ups On The Weekend. I Wouldn't Say I Had A Slip Up But I Created This Tortilla Dessert And Ate The Whole Bag Over The Weekend. Not Bad Though The Whole Bag Is 500 Cals And 30 Carbs Over Two Days Isn't Bad.
So, For Anyone Doing Low Carb Try This..........
Low Carb Tortillas-spray I Can't Believe It's Not Butter (0cals)over The Tortilla - Mix Together Slenda And Cinnamon(0cals) And Sprinkle On The Tortilla And Broil In The Oven To Make Crispy.

Now I Know I Can Not Control Myself I Can't Buy Those Things For Awhile
Hope All Is Well
