Such a Cool Thing!!!!
Well I was at a friends house today, and the doorbell rang while I was there, and this lady was at the door and gave my friend this massive box full of fruit and fresh veggies!! So being the curious person I am, I asked her about it, and she told me that there is a progam called "The Good Food Box" and she pays $13/month to get this huge box of fruits and veggies delivered to her door!
Included in the box is: Potatoes Onions Carrots A variety of fresh fruits and veggies, according to season, most veggies are grown by local farmers. Such as: Lettuce, Tomatoes, Green Peppers, Celery, Cabbage, Bananas, Oranges, Apples, etc... You get a newsletter with recipes in it each month with your box! My friend put all this food in her fridge and it filled her fridge completely!!! It was quality stuff too, and not whimpy sizes...I'm thinking about getting me a box!! |
So how much do you think it was? A week's worth or more? That's a fabulous idea. I'd pay $13 to support local farmers and get a box full of good eats in return. Give it a try for sure!

What was the name of the company that does that.

There are four in my friends family, and she says it lasts about 3 weeks! Which is amazing! She couldn't put the fruit (bag of apples and bag of oranges) in the fridge cause there wasn't room. Even if it lasted 2 weeks in my house it would be great!
Beauty - It's a program put on by the community, not by a company. She said she found out about it from a friend who actually went to the diabetic clinic here in town, and they got her involved. |
hi
After reading your post i did a little search on the net
and found their website http://www.foodshare.net/goodfoodbox01.htm Sounds Great... I think i am getting me a box ... Thank you:hug: |
What a good idea!

When I was at school one of my roommates was part of a program like that. I don't know how much he paid, but it was a very, very small amount of produce.... like, two tomatoes and a zucchini and some lettuce. Boring. A couple of summers ago, though, we signed up for a similar program run by a farm down the road, and we got a HUGE box of veggies every two weeks (seasonal veggies... whatever they managed to grow, including herbs). It was awesome, but a little pricey I think. It's a really great way to support local farmers and not pay an arm and a leg for fresh produce which should be so cheap!

wow. I've never heard of this.
But if it's a big box of stuff, wouldn't your fruits go bad if you can't eat them fast enough? [those people without families] |
We would take extras into work when we had too much. We do that with our vegetable garden too, because 30 tomatoes are just too many in one week! Everyone's happy to get real, fresh produce.
|
There are also different size boxes that you can get....according to the number of people you have in your family. I haven't gotten a box yet, but when I do I'll let you know what it's got in it!

Wow - that's really neat. Thanks for sharing. I love the local focus - something you definitely don't get at the grocery store. They even have organic ones!
|
Wow..I wish we had one of those in my area!!!
|
We have that here too! Its awesome, and the farmers at the farmers market donate the leftovers to the program too :)

I would love to get something like this!!
